| | | GRIN AND BEAR IT: Sai Deodhar and Shakti Anand | Sai Deodhar and Shakti Anand have been in the industry long enough to have made their mark.
As actors, they have proved their capabilities on various shows, but as dancers, they didn't exactly win the hearts of the judges on Star One's Nach Baliye.
The second couple to be voted out of the show, here's Shakti and Sai unplugged… Shakti Anand
I think both Sai and I were complete misfits for Nach Baliye. The confidence we shared was read as arrogance, or over-confidence. In the first round, all the other couples were shivering and had butterflies in their stomach, but we have both performed on stage in many shows, so were used to the whole idea.
I think some couples forgot that it was a reality show, and not a soap. It was sad to see couples crying and making a hullabaloo about their injuries. Sai has asthma and I suffer from backache, but we didn't ever use our ailments to our advantage.
For me, the show was about entertaining and making audiences laugh. I didn't want the viewers to say, "He cries on other shows, and here he is doing the same thing." I like watching comedy, or a show that makes me smile and have a good time. Among my favourite shows on TV is the Great Indian Laughter Challenge; sometimes, when I can, I catch parts of Sarrkar (Zee).
Also, we never did any retakes for any of our songs, while some couples redid their numbers four or five times. We believed in giving one solid performance and letting the judges rate it. I didn't understand why the judges had to give standing ovations to certain performances and make them into emotional sob stories.
In fact, when Sai and I were voted out, we started dancing and smiling, instead of hugging and crying. We wanted to rock the show, and that's what I believe we managed to do till the end.
I had great fun working with actors I don't think I would ever have been able to share the screen with. I think there is a tough fight between Varun Badola-Rajeshwari and Sachin-Supriya to take home the trophy.
Sai Deodhar
I have had a passion for dance from childhood; Shakti too enjoys grooving on stage. Whatever criticism we got was uncalled for because we performed really well; I still believe we should have won.
There was no competition for me; I always aimed at bettering myself with each round. I think our first song, Just Chill, got low ratings because we went with a theme; it was different from the others.
I have no regrets about being part of the show and have always thanked Star for considering me a part of their family. I wish the rest of the contestants well, and hope the best one wins. I don't think I will be voting for anyone, though.
