A/N: I know this one is short but I said all there was to say in this scene.
It happened one night when I had least expected it. I got fed up...with myself, with him, with this life. That was nothing new. But unlike other times, I found a way out. It was a matter of surfing the internet and paying a small fee and my life would take a dramatic turn. I could wish that I had ended this sooner but I have no regrets.
"I loved you".
I never meant to say the words. I didn't even know I had it in me to feel anything but hatred for this man but there they were...the words etched in the distance between us, just waiting for him to close in.
I sat across from him on the tail end of the long dinner table where he was king and passed him a legal size sheet of paper.
"From the minute we met, I couldn't help myself. I fell hard and against my will".
He hadn't moved an inch, his eyes boring holes in my skull. He looks at once angry and disinterested.
"In our short marriage, I have tried to be a good wife. I have fulfilled everyone of your wishes without question. I have never asked for anything. I am asking now. Please".
He did not pick up the paper.
"Let me go Shivaay".
His hands scrunged up the document into a tight ball. I waited in silence.
"You will not get an alimony", he finally answered after what felt like an eternity.
"I know".
"You will not get a penny of my wealth".
"Yes"
"You are forbidden from returning to the trade".
He meant whoring.
"I know".
"You cannot be with another man".
I paused. He waited. I opened my mouth and closed it again. If I were given a shot at freedom, I would not live it out underneath a man. I have had enough of those monsters for ten lifetimes.
"It was painful but I am glad I loved you".
I smiled through the tears that seemed to have appeared suddenly.
"Get out!" he ordered and for one last time, I obeyed
