Let's talk about the bigger film first!

After seeing some public feedback videos of Mumbai, it's apparent that the craze for Golmaal Again to is bigger than the public word of mouth itself. Meaning, the hype and crazy crowds that the film has seen in its opening days is bigger than the content of the film itself. The film itself has mixed WOM: there were people who liked the film, but then comments from other audience members saying "flop" and "mujhe kuch bhi acha nahin laga" cannot be ignored.

Secret Superstar, on the other hand, was outstanding WOM in Mumbai. With the few samples that I saw, not a single person said that it was a bad film! Many really liked the film and some even came out of the theatres with tears in their eyes. With that being said, there was one person in particular who found the film just decent, and the person also that the film is only for the class audience. This can be seen in the collections as well. Despite the great WOM in Mumbai, the film has not managed to show huge growth at the box office at an All-India level, and as Box Office India said, the film has not performed well so far outside of the 5 major cities of India. It's clear that the film has not found acceptance in the smaller circuits of india.

As I said, Mumbai is the biggest circuit for film business, and it's there that Golmaal Again is carrying mixed WOM, while Secret Superstar is carrying outstanding WOM.

So lets have it this way
You have 200 people watching one film and out of that 2-4 didn't like it

You got 20 people watching the other film. All liked it.

Now which will have bigger turnout overall?

Wouldn't say it's only 2-4 not liking it out of 200 for Golmaal Again. The first day first show audience are the ones most enthusiastic about a film, and if even some of them have not liked the film, then there will definitely be multiple people who are less excited about the film coming to later shows who would also not like the film.

Also, these masala entertainers usually do get mixed WOM anyway in the bigger circuits.

But you do realise that Judwaa 2 had somewhat similar. And here Golmaal Again being a bigger release and franchise. And having better reports than Judwaa 2. It's not likely you'll get 100/100 ratio for any movie. Even Bahubali didn't have that. SS has fair amount of rejection too hence lesser screens so I am not getting this updated statement of yours. GA seems to be most liked commercial masala film since Kick.

And it's not like SIngham Returns or Besharam which dropped after first day. 2nd & 3rd day followed well.

Judwaa 2 did have mixed WOM in bigger circuits. 100/100 ratio is impossible, but films with excellent WOM (like Dangal and Baahubali 2) can get somewhere close to it in the 80-90% range.

I clearly wrote terms like "WOM in Mumbai circuit" and even wrote about Secret Superstar not finding acceptance in smaller circuits, so I'm not sure what you're confused about. 😕

The strong hold over the weekend can also be attributed to the holidays: Saturday was a partial holiday, and Sunday was obviously a public holiday. Regarding GA having best WOM for a commercial masala film, I would Sultan had better WOM than both films, just off the top of my head.

SS ticket rates should have been lower , right now both the movies have similar ticket rates .. anyone will watch a light hearted comedy than a niche film in a festive period
