Part 32
She was twisting and turning in her bed, not able to sleep. Obviously because she was so lost in his love, it was hard to believe that the man who was once her strict and serious teacher could be such a romantic partner. And not to forget he never once mentioned his first love between them, she giggled at her thoughts then made a face mouthing *tax*.
She was thinking of their engagement day, which could've turned out to be a disaster because Oh god all the drama. But fortunately it didn't. Maybe because it was meant to be, it was their destiny to find love with each other.
And here they are, ready to take the next step in relationship. Nothing could be more serene than committing to each other for life. To hold hands and watch sun rise and set every single day.
She always adored how her mother would take care of all the stuff that her father requires in the morning and made sure to keep them at his finger's reach. And how she waited for him at evening when he returned, she would keep his tea ready and they share their day and then she prepares dinner. Also when sometimes her mom would be sick then papa would be so worried, he would make the servants and her and Yash drive crazy, but mom would be so happy when he takes care of her little things that time.
Now she'll also have that someone special, and they will be there for each other in sickness and health, happiness and sorrow, to love and cherish each other. She will cook...
She will cook? But she doesn't know how to cook.
"Oh my god! What will I do now? I don't know how to cook. I don't know how to clean, or arrange the cupboard, or how to iron clothes, or to choose clothes for men, or sew a button...
She gasps, as a scene from her favorite serial comes to her mind where the hero knowingly tears the buttons of his shirt to get his wife for some morning romance while she is busy in kitchen.
"Haww... What will I do now? I cannot marry tomorrow...
"...today.
She corrected as her eyes fell on the wall clock it was 12:00. Her eyes widened in shock.
"No, I can't marry today. I am not ready for marriage. What if Maa doesn't like it when she knows I don't know cooking or worse if Maan is disappointed that I cannot sew the button in his shirt!
"NOOO
She shouted so loud that the ring of her phone couldn't be heard. Next to ran to her phone when she did hear the next ring. She didn't bother to check the caller id, only Maan could call at this time, she just yelled as soon as she picked the phone.
"I can't marry tomorrow... today!
"WHATT
"I can't cook.
"Geet.
"I can't even clean.
"Geet what are you saying?
"I don't even know how to...
"GEET STOP IT
Sure she'd stopped to speak but he could hear her sobbing on the other side. He sighed, women! He just left her like half an hour ago, she was all fine. He can't seem to understand what goes on into that pretty little head of hers. Nevertheless he has to take charge and make her feel better about it. Till now only others were conspiring against his marriage, now his own wife! No that can't be happening he decided.
"Have you stopped crying?
He asked her but heard no reply.
"Are you nodding your head again?
Still no reply
"Geet!
"Yes.
"Better. Now drink some water and tell me what happened.
There was silence for few seconds and he could hear gulping sound.
Then finally she spoke.
"I don't know how to cook.
She told her problem simply.
"So?
"So? What do you mean by so. The girl you are marrying can't cook, what will we eat? Do you know how to cook?
His eyes widened in shock. God! What all will this sweet love make me do in this life? He thought and shook his head at the idea of him cooking! Well he could only if they wanted to blow the building off. He took a deep breath in calming himself before he could do something to calm her.
"No geet, I do not know how to cook, and...
"See... see I told you we can't get married now.
"WAIT!! Keep quiet till I finish okay.
There was a silence.
"Geet?
"Geet... are you there?
"Y..es
"Then why aren't you saying anything?
"You told me to keep quiet.
Maan held his head not knowing how to deal with this and over the phone! She's damn difficult on phone. How he wished he could go back to her and explain her nicely, but two trips just the night before wedding wasn't a very good idea.
"Alright, now listen to me and say hmm' or okay' in between so I know you are listening, okay?
"Yes.
"Right. Look geet it's completely okay that we do not know how to cook or clean or all the other stuff that we have to do on a daily basis, that can't be a reason to call off the marriage. We can always learn those things as we go, one thing at a time, slowly at our own pace.
"an hn
"Right now I think we should concentrate on knowing each other better, other things will just come along okay. These are going to be most memorable days of our lives, and we should live most of them, not stress over petty matters.
"Hm, but what will we eat?
God. She is... aahh! He can't believe he's getting into this and for the whole of his life. She's a lot to take in, but then there's no other way he'd like her, he smiled.
"Ah well, I figured we'd be living with mom, so don't worry she wouldn't starve us if my wife is unable to cook.
She smiled, probably shied a bit to at my wife', it seemed so close, so real. But...
"No... I can't let Mom cook for us, I gotta do that.
He smiled hearing her all grown up; well she must've got some marriage lessons on how to behave with in-laws.
"Well, you can help her when she does, that way you're not, you know making your mother-in-law work' whatever that is all about.
It felt good when he assured her that way. Also, she was kind of enjoying this little game.
"And what about cleaning?
"I can afford a maid for that. Look I want a wife not a care-taker OK? All the works that you mentioned here can be delegated to someone else. But there are tasks that I'd never had anyone else do other than you.
"Umm... what tasks?
She was now rolling her curl in her finger imitating the way her toes curled at his words.
"Well, if you want me to elaborate... When I get up I would like that the first face I see is yours; then sometimes when I forget to take my towel into shower, you pass it to me.
He said in a low voice which did things to her.
"And...
She said blushing, hardly able to speak but she wanted to hear more.
"When I am leaving for office, you come along with me to say goodbye at the car; and when I return in the evenings, I share my day with you and listen about yours; and...
"There's more?
She asked breathless this time. He sure knew how to make her feel good at every situation.
"Well... there is but for now I want to share only one other... I want you to be the last person to wish me good night and first person to wish me good morning. [Re-furbished version of "meri har subah tumse shuru hoti hai aur har raat tum par hatam...lol]
There was a long silence after that and they could only hear each other's deep breaths, absorbing this all consuming feeling of having the other in their lives forever.
"Maan I... I really... I love you.
Well that wasn't the first time she said that, but her heart was beating very fast, and so was his. Probably the last time it was in fear of losing him, a sudden realization that couldn't be held back in the relief of seeing him safe and sound. While this time, she knew she loved him and was going to spend her life with him; she, her feelings, her emotions, were all safe with him. There was a feeling of liberation with the thought of getting bound to him forever. She didn't know if she could ever feel so contradicting emotions at the same time, there was fear, then there was safety, excitement and nervousness, but mostly anticipation of surprises.
His feelings weren't any different from her, sure she was little immature, exasperating at times, but nothing that he couldn't handle. All he wished that he is able to keep her safe and happy, and about himself, he knew he can never be unhappy with her in his life.
"Geet, I love you too. And I can't wait for this darkness to be overtaken by a new morning of my life.
They slept off after sometime, waiting for the sun to rise and a chapter in their lives to begin.
