Chapter 21
Next day was mehndi and wedding for MehRya as well as for Awara and Manju. Khanna mansion was packed with families and friends. Maheks mehndi was going on when Shaurya went to see her. "Can I have the pleasure of writing my name on my wife's hand?" He asked Mahek while sitting beside her. Mahek nodded shyly. Shaurya took her hand in his and wrote his name with the cone. He then kissed her cheeks making her more red. "Happy mehndi Mrs khanna!" "Thank you Mr khanna!" Mahek said shyly. "You know you shouldn't be here,if ma sees us then we'll be in trouble." Mahek said softly. "She didn't know We slept together last night,how will she catch us now?" Mahek gestured behind him. "Look over there!" Shaurya twitched his head to see Karuna heading in their direction. "Oh Teri!" With a blink of an eye Shaurya disappeared from there. Mahek laughed.
It was lunch time. Mahek was pacing her room with mehndi covered hand. She was starving but no one came to give her anything to eat. Few minutes later some girls came in with a tray of food. "Di we can feed you as your hands still have mehndi on them. Mahek nodded her head and sat down. Just then Shaurya stepped in the room. He chased the girls away. Mahek clamped her lips to prevent a laugh. He locked the door from inside and walked towards her. Mahek noticed he was rubbing his back as he walked. "Shaurya are you ok?" He faked a smile. "I'm fine..just a little tired I think...let's eat I'm starving." "My mehndi is dry I have to wash it." Shaurya helped her up. "Come I'll help you wash it." Mahek watched him as he washed off the mehndi from her hands. "Wow look at the mehndi colour! It's very dark!" He said with a smile. "This shows your love for me is so deep." She said and cupped his cheeks. "Shaurya,I know you are not feeling well,tell me what is it? Is it your kidneys?." Shaurya placed his hands over hers. "Let's get married first,our families have so much hope for this wedding,I don't wanna ruin it by any means." He leaned and kissed her maang. "Let's go eat!" He brought her out of the washroom and both sat on the bed. Mahek tried to speak but he shushed her. "Every time I feed you,today you'll feed me." He told her. Mahek fed him and together they both ate. Suddenly she went in his embrace. "I love you Shaurya...promise me you'll never me..." Shaurya buried her in his chest. "I love you too baby ..I promise I'll never leave you,now stop crying." He consoled her and asked her to get some rest as their wedding was just around the corner and both needed to rest.
Later that evening,dressed in grooms attire,Shaurya waited for Mahek in the mandap. Few minutes later,Sharma ladies brought the beautiful bride down for the jay mala. Shaurya couldn't take his eyes off of his beautiful bride. "You are one beautiful bride you know!" He whispered in her ears when doing the jaymala. "And you are my handsome groom!" Mahek said shyly. The rituals started. Pandit ji started his mantras. Shaurya filled her maang and tied the mangalsutra around her neck. The pheres were done,with vows and promises. Both families were happy as they rained flowers on them. "We are married for the second time." Shaurya told her. Full of love and emotions,Mahek went in his embrace. "I enjoyed my wedding Shaurya!" "So did I babe!" He enveloped her in his arms. More flowers were rained on them. When everyone was busy talking and having fun,Shaurya's pain returned. This time it was severe. He gnashed his teeth but kept quite. Blessings were taken as well as the pictures. With the dinner,their wedding came to an end.
That night Mahek sat on their bed and waited for shaurya. "What's taking him so long? Thought Mahek. She came downstairs but not a single soul was in sight. She went to Karuna ma's room and found them both sleeping. She checked for vicky in his room but he also wasn't there. She began to panic. "Where is everybody gone?" She rushed to her room and dialled Shaurya's number but his phone was switched off. Her heart sank. Something was up which she wasn't aware of. She dialled Vicky's number,he picked up when she was about to put the phone down. "Mahek bhabi I was about to call you!" "Vicky where's Shaurya?" Mahek asked worriedly. "He's admitted in hospital,his both kidneys failed bhabi..doctors can't find donors so soon...I don't know what to do...I'm coming home ..bua has to know about this." Mahek hung up,her world was spinning around her. Tears rolled down her cheeks but she wiped it off. "I'm coming Shaurya! I won't let anything happen to you!" She changed into leggings and tees. Grabbing her bag she looked for Shaurya's car keys. Finding it she ran outside to the car.
Mahek was driving fast towards the city hospital. On the way she passed Vicky's car who was heading home but non of them noticed. Arriving at the hospital she enquired about the doctor in charge. A nurse showed her to the doctors office. She met with the doctor and the doctor discussed Shaurya's health with her. "I need to see my husband now doctor!" "Theek hai follow me." She followed the doctor to where Shaurya was. He lay unconscious and was hooked to the machines. "Shaurya!!!" She ran to him and rested her head on his chest. "I knew something was wrong with you...but why didn't you tell me?" She cried. "You can't leave me like this ...I won't let you go..." she kissed his face. "Mrs khanna,you may call the rest of the family members to come and see him while he's still breathing,once we take him off the machine,he's gone!" Anger took over Mahek. She grabbed the doctors collar! "Don't you dare say that again or else I'll kill you! Samjhe tum? Now do what I say!" She threatened him. Doctor swallowed as sweat broke on his forehead. "But That will involve a lot of risk mrs khanna." Mahek gave him a fierce look. "Just do what I say!"
It took two hours for vicky and Karuna ma to wake Harish up. Karuna ma had to throw a bucket full of cold water on him to get him up. "Bua,I'll go get bhabi." Karuna stopped him. "Let her sleep vicky,she's tired from the days event ..don't wanna give her more stress." Said Karuna ma. Somehow they managed to reach the hospital. "Nurse,how is my bhai doing?" "Oh he's in the ICU,you can see him in few minutes." The nurse told vicky. "Bua,I think bhai just got a donor!" Vicky told them excitedly. "Thank you Bhagwan!" Karuna and Harish just prayed for their sons recovery. Soon the sharma family joined them. "Does Mahek know about his health?" Chachi asked. "No I didn't tell her yet...don't want to distress her,we'll tell her in the morning when Shaurya is fine." Said Karuna. No one knew that vicky had already told her and she was in the hospital with Shaurya. An hour later,the doctor came out from ICU. "Shaurya is out of danger now,he's wide awake! Family members can meet him now and don't forget to thank the donor." "Who's the donor doctor?" Asked vicky. "You can find the info at the front desk." Saying that he left.
Families went in two by two to see Shaurya. Next was Shaurya's parents and vicky,they entered his room. "Shaury...beta how are you feeling now?" Asked Karuna as she kissed his head and sat by his side. "I'm ok ma...where's Mahek? Does she know I'm here? I had to come without telling her.." Shaurya looked worried and sad. "Bhabi is home,she will come in the morning." Vicky told him. "Please vicky phone laga I want to hear her voice." Vicky tried her cell phone but it was switched off. Just then I nurse entered the ward. "Your donor is still at the hospital,its strange she's not waking up,i can take you there if guys want to see her." "She? My donor is a female?" Asked Shaurya. The nurse nodded with a smile. "Of course we want to see her,please take us there." Vicky helped Shaurya on a wheelchair and pushed him to the donors ward. The rest followed them. A doctor was just coming out of the ward. "You are lucky shaurya khanna!" With a smile he went away. No one understood what he was saying. Vicky pushed the wheelchair inside while the rest stood outside by the door. Vicky's eyes widened and mouth dropped open when he saw the figure in the hospital bed. Light left Shaurya's eyes when he saw his Mahek lying there motionless. Mahek was his donor? Tears filled his eyes as he screamed. "Mahek!!!" With a jerk Mahek woke up. She turned those eyes to him and smiled faintly. "Shaurya...you are ok now..." All Shaurya could say was "I love you!" Tears made its way down his cheeks. "I love you more!" Tears escaped the corners of her eyes as well. Shaurya sat by her just holding her hands as their eyes spoke volumes.
Months went by. Both had recovered from their surgeries. Life was going on smoothly. Vicky and Nehal's marriage was fixed. Purohit family paid them a visit and left. One night,Mahek was just standing in the terrace and looking at the moon and stars. Shaurya came behind her and snaked his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder. "You didn't finish your dinner ...are you ok? Tabiyat toh theek hai na?" Mahek turned within his arms and buried her head on his chest. "I'm not hungry these days Shaurya and I'm worried my period didn't come for past two months." He kissed the crown of her head. "I thought you went to see a doctor regarding that." "I wanted to go but because of work today I couldn't go." "We have workers in the house Mahek,you don't need to work! Anyway we'll drop by to the doctors in the morning then I'll head straight to work okay?" Mahek nodded. "Let's go I want you badly tonight!" He said with a glint of naughtiness in his eyes. Mahek pulled his cheeks as he carried her inside their bedroom and on their bed and both made love to each other.
Next morning Shaurya took her for check up. "I'll send you the reports home by tomorrow." The doctor told them. They both left from there. "Chalo I'll drop you home then I'll go to white chillies." "Nai na..I'll also come with you!" She insisted. "Ok fine but you'll keep your hands to yourself and not start working alright? Order food and eat in my office and rest otherwise you are going home." "Ok baba I'll not work,I'll eat and rest." Mahek told him. "Good girl!" They drove to white chillies,staffs were happy to see Mahek after so long. Mahek ate in Shaurya's office and dozed off on the sofa while he worked. She slept for hours and hours. "Mahek,get up! Ghar nai Jana?" Shaurya sat beside her and caressed her head gently. She feebly opened her eyes. "What's the time?" "Its past lunch time,I have never seen you sleeping like this." He said. "I know..." she moved her head to his lap. "This feels so much better! Where were you all this while?" Shaurya shook his head unbelievably and laughed softly.
A day went by. Mahek had made a new dish and called Shaurya to come home for lunch. Khanna family sat down to eat,just then Shaurya came in. Mahek ran to greet him at the door. Shaurya opened his arms and she hugged him. "I was waiting for you.." she whispered on his chest. "Really? Then give me a kiss! A sweet one!." Mahek blushed. "I can't ..everyone's watching us." She said shyly. "Go on do it otherwise I'm not moving from here!" Shaurya stood his ground. "Uff ho bhabi! Give na otherwise we'll starve to death!" Vicky screamed from the table. Maheks blush deepened. "Beshram Ho tum pata hai!" Left with no choice she Stood on her toes and kissed his hairy cheeks. Shaurya smiled,interlacing their fingers they went to the dining table. He pulled a chair and sat down. Manju and Awara were away so Mahek served them herself. "What did you make babe?" Asked Shaurya. "Pineapple chicken and chicken in black bean sauce." "Smells good bhabi!" Vicky closed his eyes and inhaled the aroma. "Serve me first beta!" Said Harish excitedly. "Ji papa!" After serving everyone she sat down beside Shaurya. "This is really good Mahek!" Shaurya praised her and so did the others. Mahek felt really proud and happy seeing her family smiling and happy. After lunch She was clearing the table when Shaurya's phone rang. He took the call. "I thought it was next week!" Mahek heard him saying. "Ok fine! Book the flight for tonight I'll go!" Shaurya hung up and looked at Mahek who was already looking at him with tear filled eyes. Shaurya tried to explain it to her that he will be away for only a day but she was in no mood to listen. "Send someone else ..I can't stay without you for a minute and you are asking me to stay for one long day? I can't! Mujhse nai hoga!" She ran to the kitchen. "Babe please yaar..." he went behind her tried to convince her. "I'll be back tomorrow by dinner time I promise." Finally Mahek agreed. Shaurya took her in his arms. "Thank you babe! This conference is so important for white chillies." Shaurya left that evening.
Night was a torture without him. She spent her night tossing and turning in bed. In the morning she fell asleep. Karuna ma came in her room and found her sleeping peacefully so she left quietly and made breakfast that day. Mahek woke up late,called Shaurya and freshened up. Karuna ma was in the kitchen preparing lunch when Mahek joined her. "Aagayee tu? Good morning! I missed you at breakfast." "Sorry ma I couldn't sleep last night that's why I slept in this morning." "It's ok beta I kind of knew it...Shaurya wasn't home that's why na?" Karuna touched her head lovingly. Mahek nodded shyly and took her blessing. Suddenly she felt like throwing up. Covering her mouth she ran to the washroom! "Mahek what's wrong?" Karuna ma looked worried and waited by the washroom door. Vicky too joined her followed by Harish. Mahek came out few minutes later,before she could answer them she collapsed on the floor. "Bhabi!" Mahek! Bahu!" The trio screamed. Vicky carried her to her room and lay her down on the bed. Karuna ma was already on the phone talking to a lady doctor. Vicky and Karuna sat on the bed beside her while Harish paced the room. Soon the doctor arrived and examined Mahek. "Congratulations! Your daughter in law is two months pregnant!" Everyone's face lit up in extreme joy and happiness! Vicky and Harish started singing and dancing while Karuna hugged her in happiness. "Should we call the baby's papa and give him the news?" Asked Karuna with a tease in her voice. Mahek lowered her gaze in embarrassment. "Not yet ma! I want to surprise him." She said while looking at their wedding picture on the nightstand.
