My question is :
Why did they make a show on Kali on the first place while not intending to show all the stories related to Maa Shakti's Kaali avatar?
There's a hell and heaven difference between Showing Goddess Kali 'S unknown stories and putting Maa Kali between every known story that didn't include her.
To be honest, Mahakali is the ChandraNandini of Mythological shows.
A show which has a poor and baseless storyline, relying on only the lead actors' fanbases from previous shows
I don't like serials which looks to feed into an actor's fanbase rather than his/her talent.

Please let not compare Chandra Nandini with Mahakali; it's an insult to the MK; MK leads actor's can act not only act; but are continuing with flawless powerful performance whereas CN failed in it; I'm amazed with Rajat Tokas; he ws brilliant as Akbar in Jodha Akbar; whereas he is just not able to perform or act in CN; Completely expressionless and the less said abt SBP the better

I'm not fan of all the 4 actors so my judgement is quite different from any of the 4 actors' fan.
I am neutral and that's what I felt - MK is CN of mytho shows based on its bhangaar and fake storyline only.
This thing unites the 2 big bad shows of the mytho/histo genre.
I don't think an actor's acting can overshadow a pathetic plot.
I have stopped Watching Mahakali Now -but whenever I get to see its snippets while changing channels it's either Pooja trying hard to save the show from the gutter it has become, SRJ looking utterly directionless about his role, or villains overacting too much.
It honestly looks like a comedy circus gone wrong.
As a neutral viewer , I would like to rate a show on its writing and presentation more than anything else .
In case of historical and mythologicals, I also look at the historical authenticity but only when the actual storyline of the show is non entertaining.
And by my parameter, Mahakali is no less than CN for spoiling the game for us.
Who wants to see actors who aren't themselves happy or even comfortable with the content ?

How exactly would one determine the authenticity of a mythological serial? By taking the Puranas at face value?
Yes, they have elected to adapt and modify certain canon (legitimate creative liberty), but they haven't shoehorned Mahakali in unrelated myths. Had they chosen to depict her saving Prahlada or Kali in other Vishnu canon, then a case could be made. Otherwise, nothing about the creative process is inherently incorrect. It's just some technical flaws. Sure, the writing sometimes leans toward exposition; but the word play is entertaining and Parvati's transformation has been marvelous.

I don't know about that other show Luna I didn't watch. But I agree with the fact you said. This show is neither entertaining nor fulfilling for me. May be Puranas are not authentic for some people but to me they matter the most. This show made a mockery of whatever I heard studied and understood about Adi Sakti or Mahakali. I don't want to talk about performances..

Hi,
First of all, really like your moniker (Maleficarum). Were you inspired by the movie or the book?😊

====

By and large it is only our culture that does not have a set in stone idea/follow particular canon or dogma; which is why liberties are taken by any and all 'tom, dick, harry' writers.

The show is supposed to be based on the texts. Small creative liberities are acceptable, large ones also would be acceptable if they did not lose the essence of the stories. Unfortunately, in the current scenario, the essence of the stories are completely lost, which is why many are getting agitated.

Writing with creative liberty has been going on over the centuries, a prime example being plays by Kalidasa, which are loosely based on texts; but those stories actually do not lose the essence and in some instances enhance understanding of the core values that are being put across.

Considering the vast array of texts, I cannot claim to know even 1%; but still I can feel that the essence is lost, so those who have in depth knowledge must be feeling the pinch very badly.
