Your title is very stylish and so is your story.
I loved how you brought Mallika & Siddharth in to the story. These 2 characters had such an impact on the story that it always brings back some very fond memories created on screen. And of course the friendship that Annika & Mallika shared during her short stay.
I am very eagerly looking forward to your version of the story.

CHAPTER 2 : A STEP TOWARDS THE CHANGE

The newfound energy had made me resolve to set things right in my life. I left the beach with them and on the way I quickly dropped a message to Gauri that I would be coming home late. Siddarth had asked me to make calls to Mishraji, (Shivaay's P.A.) from whom we wanted the details of the divorce proceeding and also I had asked him to get me a copy of the judgment in an hour. I also rang up Khannaji who had been my confidant all these months. Mallika had booked us a table for dinner to discuss the matter and had also called up their lawyer to have a look into the legal papers.

I was not aware about the court proceedings as Shivaay had taken care of them and I didn't had the courage to ever ask him about it. In an hour we all met at the restaurant and Mishraji was more than happy to help me in this matter. He was quite emotional, "Annika Bhabhi you are doing the right thing, Shivaay Sir really needs you. You are made for each other... I knew how much he cared for Shivaay and me. The court ruling was studied with immense precision and Siddarth was in an intense discussion with the lawyer. at the couch in front of us. I was quite anxious and just twisted the spoon on my plate. I was aware that my every action was now dependent on what the lawyer would recommend. Mallika squeezed my hand on the table and in a hopeful voice said, "Annika, we'll do our best... so just relax and have your meal." Khannaji and Mishraji also tried to make me comfortable and I gave them a small smile in return.

It had been two hours and Siddarth was weighing the options presented by the lawyer. We all were now waiting with our breath held as to know if there was hope. He sighed and then with a smirk on his lips he said, "Guys, Let's do it!!!" I knew from his face that he indeed had found hope and that made me breathe again. However, I really wanted to know everything in detail but Siddarth just asked me to meet them early morning tomorrow and he'll explain me everything. He assured me and said, "Annika, trust me go home and have a good rest coz from tomorrow things will change again." I smiled back at them with unshed tears and said, "You are right things will change again. Thanks to you all for being there and supporting me." On the way back we discussed my next steps in detail and they did convince me to do a number of things I was quite hesitant about and they said it was important for the plan.

I stepped out of the car followed by Mallika and Siddarth. She hugged me tight and said, "Annika, you remember what we discussed right... This is for you both..." I nodded my head in agreement and said, "I'll do as we have planned. I'll come with Khannaji in the morning at 8:00 a.m. to meet you guys." I bid them good night and made sure no one had seen them, which was extremely important for the plan.

It was almost past 12 O'clock when I entered the house and did not expect anyone to be awake at this hour of the night. However, I was met with a disoriented looking Shivaay who was pacing alone in the living area constantly looking at his watch. He stopped pacing and then marched towards me in quick strides. He kept starring at me with one eyebrow raised and arms folded on his chest trying to keep his temper in check. I knew the look, which was 'typical Shivaay', stance and it meant he wanted answers to his questions without asking them in the first place. I thought of teasing him a bit and cheekily replied, "I know you were waiting for me right... Shivaay please you can go and sleep now. You care so much about me...Aap bahut ache hai." I could see he wasn't expecting this and was trying to cover up his action and stammered while speaking, "No... nothing... nothing like that ok... stop assuming things... why would I care... why are you coming home at this time... Mujhe... mujhe koi matlab nahi."

I was trying not to giggle but couldn't help and he glared at me while trying to intimidate me as if I'll be scared of him. But his next question was something I did expect and he narrowed his eyes while speaking, "So, you went out again with your so called fiance. What kind of man he is who can't keep track of time hhuhhh... atleast you do own a watch right..." He was an adorable man when he was jealous and I just couldn't help myself from pulling his cheeks, which irritated him a lot and replied, "No, I didn't Shivaay. I had to meet a friend and I lost track of time. If you were that worried about my safety you should have called me up. Anyways, I am exhausted now and I'd like to sleep. So Goodnight Billuji."

Before Shivaay could come back with a reply I swiftly marched towards my room with a yelling Shivaay behind me, " Stop calling me Billuji ok...I don't care about you Annika and I surely wasn't waiting for you... I... I was just..." I stopped and turned back again to say him, "Shivaay keep saying this to yourself, but the fact won't change that you care for me Billuji." I quickly closed the bedroom while giggling and retired for the night with Shivaay's dreams.

NEXT MORNING

I got up at 5:30 a.m. and quickly went to take shower to get ready for the crucial day ahead. I changed into pair of comfortable home clothes after shower and made my way to the kitchen to make my tea. I sat in the pool area with my tea and gazed at the water that held so many memories. Life was strange in its own twisted way and today it would flip again if things worked out as planned. I finished my tea and then got up to get Shivaay's business newspaper from the living area and placed it on his table in the room. I knew he would be out of the washroom so I placed his clothes for the day on the bed and made a cup of coffee for him. He had just come out and I left by wishing him a good morning. I dashed towards my room to get ready. I decided to wear a red saree and had quickly put all the required documents in my handbag. Khannaji and Mishraji had taken a half-day holiday today on a short notice, which I knew must have left Shivaay surprised.

I wanted to inform Gauri before I left the house and was about to say her name again but stopped after watching the scene in front of me which got me rooted in my place. Pinky Aunty was taunting and humiliating Gauri about her status, her lack of education and about how she was a no match to Omkara. I clenched my fist with anger and just couldn't understand what was her problem with everyone. Seeing Gauri like that was painful and it reminded me of how Pinky Aunty had treated me all this while, but this time it had to come to an end. I quietly left that place with a fierce determination to not only mend my relationship but also protect Gauri from Pinky Aunty.

SHIVAAY'S POINT OF VIEW

I was in the kitchen preparing breakfast for all and was wondering what had happened in the morning. Annika was confusing me all the more as on one side her actions showed that she cared for me and on the other, I was constantly reminded of her act on that fateful day. However, one thing was clear that she must have done all that three months back for a reason and now I just wanted to know the truth from her. I wanted to know what caused her to react in a way that shattered our relationship in a day. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized even though we lived in the same house we were yet so far and that was becoming unbearable. I composed myself and quickly started preparing the fruit salad.

I could see everyone on the table except Annika and that's when Gauri informed me, "Bhaiya, Bhabhi had some work so she left half an hour back." Now that was a bit surprising as Annika never liked to get up early and then she had left home already. I just mumbled to myself, "God knows what keeps running in that small head of hers... She is mad, totally mad." I was working from home so that I could speak with Annika today. I had to know how my entire family except Mom was so comfortable with Annika as if nothing had ever happened. I had to know why my wife had done such a thing to me after all we shared and then parted on a note where I could never get over the fact that our marriage was over.

ANNIKA'S POINT OF VIEW

It was around 1:45 p.m. when we got free from the court and we all sat down for a coffee in a nearby cafe. Mallika quickly ordered coffee for herself, Siddarth, Mishraji, Khannaji and me. Mishraji was on the phone to put our next plan into motion and Khannaji was working on the other task that was concerning Ragini. In next twenty minutes we went through every detail and finally I was all set to leave with them for Oberoi Mansion. It was a 30-minute drive and it took every ounce in me to keep my emotions in check.

I really had no idea how Shivaay would react and then Rudra had informed me on the way back that his Shivaay Bhaiya was being more cranky than usual days and that was a worry sign for me. Rudra as always was upset with Ragini being at home and he did mention she had come along with her elder brother. I found that a bit weird and I consoled Rudra by telling him I was on my way to home, which pacified him a bit. Meanwhile, Mishraji had informed Siddarth on the phone that the work would be done in next 10 minutes and my heart began to beat faster with every passing second.

In order to calm my nerves I had a word with Saahil and enquired how he was doing at school. I couldn't tell him what was happening here as he had his exams and I wanted him to concentrate on them. I knew I had to do this for my relationship and also put a check on Pinky Aunty so as to keep her at a distance from Gauri. Finally, we reached outside home and Siddarth parked the car on the side. Mallika and Siddarth stepped out too and hugged me. Mallika said, "Annika, don't be nervous and just be yourself. Remember what we have discussed and stick to it... We have your back ok."

I quickly nodded my head and then Siddarth held my hand, "Annika just go in and play the game. They will try to intimidate you with their tricks but don't give in, keep your calm and don't give them the satisfaction to see you affected. We'll keep an eye on you as Khannaji has set up everything ok... Remember for this fight you are the suave Mrs. Annika Shivaay Singh Oberoi." Their words gave me the much-needed confidence and I took a deep breath that helped me to get my emotions together. I held my head high and smiled with confidence at them before I made my way towards the Oberoi gates. They silently wished me luck again when I turned to wave at them.

I was standing at the entrance gate and could see almost the entire family in the living area along with Ragini standing next to Shivaay and Pinky Aunty. I rolled my eyes and then saw Khannaji who wished me luck and I gave him a small smile back. I couldn't see Ragini's brother as his back was facing towards me. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves and then while adjusting my saree muttered to myself, "You can do it Annika..." I took a couple of steps when Rudra came rushing towards me, "Bhabhi kaha reh gaye thy aap?" I ruffled his hair and said, "I am home now Rudra so stop whining ok and I promise I will answer all your questions later ..." He gave me his smile and hugged me saying I was his best Bhabhi. I chuckled on that and then I moved towards the family.

I saw Ragini holding Shivaay's arm and she smirked at me. I rolled my eyes at that and then was a bit surprised to see Mr. Samar Malhotra. I smiled and went towards him, "Mr. Malhotra aap yaha??... What a pleasant surprise." He did get up and was about to answer when Ragini interrupted saying, "He is my brother Annika." I was a bit taken a back by the reply and that's when Pinky Aunty stepped ahead with arrogance and said, "I had called Samar to speak to him regarding Shivaay and Ragini's engagement." She had a victory glint in her eyes and that's when Shivaay said, "Mom, what's the hurry, I thought you called them to discuss something else..." I could see Shivaay had no idea what was going on with Pinky Aunty. It did hurt to hear again about his engagement, but I had to be indifferent to the pain and not given to their trick.

SHIVAAY'S POINT OF VIEW

Annika was finally home but something about her was different which I couldn't pinpoint. She looked mesmerizing in her red saree and I just kept starring at her until she spoke with Samar. I was surprised to see that she recognized Samar and the way she was speaking gave me a hint they had met before. I did anyways not like this guy and to add on now Annika was all smiling at him. I was about to intervene their pleasantry exchange when Mom mentioned the engagement again and my eyes went towards Annika. She looked at me with eyes searching for an answer and I just wanted to tell her it was all a facade. She kept quiet and then without reacting turned towards Samar.

She had a smile again on her face while speaking to that annoying man, "Mr. Malhotra I had no idea Ragini was your sister, must say you both are quite different..." I knew Annika despised Ragini just as my brothers did, but what caught my attention was her knowledge about this man. Samar smiled and replied to her, "Well you are here is a surprise for me too... and yes she is my sister but what do you mean by we are different?" She said, "Ohh nothing like that Mr. Malhotra, all I meant is you are quite matured and Ragini is... Forget it..."

This made my blood boil as to how Annika was easily speaking to Samar and that's when Omkara asked Annika, "Bhabhi how do you know him?" She then mentioned that Samar had given her a job and she couldn't do it for a reason. I uttered the words that were in mind in a low voice, "Good she didn't take up the job, else I don't know what I might have done..." Rudra was giggling beside me and so was Gauri, which made me realize that I had embarrassed myself again.

Annika had all her attention towards Samar and that wasn't settling well inside me and the irony was I couldn't do much. She went to speak ahead, "You really are a nice man Mr. Malhotra and thank you for everything." Samar smiled back at that and all I wanted was to break his neck for speaking to Annika. Rudra came and whispered, "Bhaiya, he is a good and a matured man as per Bhabhi... and you know what Samar is single, isn't that great..." I clenched my fist on that and glared at my brothers for uttering such words while they kept sniggering. Annika was really testing my patience today and I had no idea how to take her away from Samar.

Before I could walk up to them Annika said, "Samar, sorry I mean Mr. Malhotra I actually live here... Well, we were never introduced to each other properly, I guess that's why you didn't know right..." He replied, "I agree and please you can call me Samar." Annika giggled on that and all I wanted was to stop this introduction that was getting on my nerves. I was feeing hurt to see how Annika was not even sparing a glance at me and I just wanted take her away from this man. My mind reminded she wasn't my wife and I had no rights to do anything and that painfully twisted my heart. Samar raised his hand towards Annika and my eyes were fixed on her, and he said, "It's pleasure to meet you again Miss Annika..."

Annika had placed her hand in his for a handshake and replied, "Well Samar, I am not Miss Annika..."Everyone in the room narrowed their eyes and was more attentive to what Annika just uttered. Samar was a bit confused and Annika replied, "Samar, actually it's not Miss coz I am Mrs. Annika Shivaay Singh Oberoi."

I was stunned to hear that and my heart did skip a beat when she looked at me with a smile that held so much affection. I couldn't believe what I had just heard and so did everyone as they were equally bewildered by her reply. I really didn't know how to react to it as I had never in life expected Annika to say those words that I wanted to hear from her. She always said she was 'Sirf Annika' and I did accept that, however, today for the first time she had introduced herself as she did now and that got tears to my eyes. I never knew I could feel so many emotions at one time by just her saying she was Mrs. Annika Shivaay Singh Oberoi.

Samar broke my chain of thoughts with his words, "Mrs... How is that possible? I am sorry but if I am not wrong Shivaay had got divorced 3 months back..." Those words were enough to get me back to real world where in reality Annika was not my wife and this pain was unbearable. My eyes were fixed on Annika's face, as I was not able to understand why she was doing something like this when she knew it affected me so deeply. But, then I saw Annika remove her hand from his to her side and replied, "Samar I know you are a reputed businessman, but please don't feel offended if I point out that you aren't keeping up with the news which is quite vital..."

Everyone in the room wasn't able to understand anything and Samar was a bit taken aback by her comment. Annika chuckled and said, "Well, then tune into the latest news and you'll know I am still the legally lawful wife of Shivaay Singh Oberoi coz our divorce proceeding has been held." I was completely shocked and that's when I received a call from Mishra who indeed confirmed the same that the news was right. I was completely under shock and couldn't utter a word.

Mom yelled at her but Annika patiently stood there listening to her rant but then stopped her midway. She didn't reply to Mom and then walked towards Ragini who stood next to me. She smiled at her and then with a sincere voice which I knew wasn't sincere, she said, "I am so sorry Ragini but you know things happen... I understand you wanted to marry my husband but that won't happen as you see Shivaay is still married to me..." Annika turned back to Samar and said, "Samar, I know you had come to discuss Ragini's engagement but I am so sorry... You know it's illegal to have a second wife when the first is alive...I hope you will understand..." Both the brother sister duo were left stunned after hearing Annika speak to them.

I was completely clueless as to what was she doing and how come she got the proceedings held and it was also all over the news. I couldn't understand what she wanted and I said to myself, "Does she care for our relation? No Shivaay...No, don't raise your hopes..."

ANNIKA'S POINT OF VIEW

I knew the impact of my words on Pinky Aunty and Ragini, but more than that from the corner of my eye I could Shivaay starring at me in a way that held so many emotions. I knew I had to first deal with Ragini and to say I was proud of myself would be undermining coz she was speechless and I knew she hadn't expected the turn of tables so soon. Siddarth was right they indeed had underestimated me and now was the time to subtly tell them not to take me as a weak player. Pinky Aunty came forward and began her rant as always, "What do you think of yourself Annika? What new nonsense is this hhhuhh... OH!! You are trying to get back to my son...Don't you remember how Shivaay had thrown you out of the house and his life 3 months back, must say you really have no respect... Shivaay why aren't you saying anything?"

I was trying to control my anger and not snap back for her words, patience is what I needed coz right now I knew staying calm was important. I knew her motive to rattle me and I couldn't give her satisfaction atleast not this time. I quickly masked my disdain and composed myself to face Pinky Aunty. I took a step forward and replied in a low voice with a smile, "I do remember what happened 3 months back so you needn't mention it again coz maybe this time it may not be good for you Pinky Aunty." I smirked and then in a more loud voice continued, "Shivaay had filed for a divorce without his wife's consent so the court has granted a stay on the divorce..."

The tables had to be turned now and with an emotional face I said, "I know you don't consider me a good daughter-in-law Pinky Aunty and why would you... I accepted Shivaay as my husband but never had put an effort to accept you as my mother... But, I have decided that from now onwards I will take complete care of you Pinky Aunty..." Pinky Aunty was all baffled and I continued, "OH!! How stupid of me aab bhi aapko Aunty bol rahi hun... Aap toh meri Saasu Ma hai ,so aaj se I'll call you Pinky Mom just as Shivaay ok..."

This escalated Pinky Aunty's temper and I knew I had hit the right spot looking at her expressions. She started with her record again, " I am not your Mom and you don't deserve to be my Bahu...I will throw you out of my house and Ragini will be my son's wife no matter what..." I wanted to laugh on that statement and trust me I really was enjoying this, but got myself together as it was time to serve the next blow to her inflated ego.

I raised my eyebrow and then went back to making a sad face while replying back with folded hands, "Yeh kya Pinky Mom, how can you throw me out please don't do it again." She narrowed her eyes and then with a straight face I continued with an inquisitive tone, "Bhavya you are an ACP right..." Bhavya replied, "Yes Bhabhi..." I kept looking straight into Pinky Aunty's eyes and spoke to Bhavya, "So Bhavya, tell me isn't domestic violence and mental harassment a criminal offence?" Within a split second Bhavya was back with the answer, "Of course Bhabhi, infact the accused is arrested under IPC Section 498A for these offences and they are really serious charges."

I cleared my throat and spoke loudly, "Thanks for the information Bhavya and I am sure iss ghar mein aisa hoga nahi right Pinky Mom..." She was fuming with anger and then I took a step forward and spoke to her in a low voice, "Next time think before you say anything to me... aapki hi bhalai hai issmein Pinky Mom." I knew I had hit the nail hard this time, as she stood stunned. I smiled sweetly at her and said, "I promise you I'll be a good daughter in law Pinky Mom."

I traced my eyes at everyone present and smiled at them, "Samar, why don't you sit with everyone and enjoy the coffee, I'll just be back in 2 minutes... Excuse me." I took a few steps forward and stopped in front of Shivaay. He kept starring at me and I went a bit close to him and while adjusting his pocket square I whispered, "I am back Pati Parmehwar..." I slightly grazed his coat and then left from there. I could feel my husband starring at my back with wide eyes and I turned back to just wink at him and left all giggling towards the kitchen.

I look forward to your thoughts and please do like and let me know your views... Until then have a great day ahead everyone!!!
