I told her that I am definitely not good at writing romance or FF. After writing that reply, I was wondering if I did come across as someone who is trying to scoff at fan fiction as a genre.
I did some introspection about what I feel about FF. (I was introduced to the genre of FF much later, as recent as a year ago). Here are my two cents (which no one wanted in the first place, but what the heck)
I initially felt that when people are not satisfied with the current track or any part in a show or book, they write something which satisfies their expectations. After reading enough stories on this Forum and elsewhere, I realized this was partially true. There were some stories which were giving the story the end which they felt it deserved.
But there were a lot of stories which were set in AU. There were stories which could have been as good even if the name of the leads were different. (I DO understand that name of the leads make sure of the initial audience, but the continuity is dependent on the content)
I noticed that a lot of famous (and not so famous) writers are still taking inspirations from classics and weaving stories around characters or retelling the stories.
I guess FF is like any other writing except that they have already decided on the visual aspect of the story's leads.
After all this, I still have to confess that I still do not think I can write an FF based on a show, the reason is I do not understand or can write romance. :-D
(Disclaimer: I strongly believe that love and romance while used interchangeably are totally different things)
so Radha Rani, as compensation, I did send you a link in PM.
Love!
