It was very satisfying to watch the 100% Vashisht sisters' interaction today. Especially, the part that shows how the other two sister's dealt with / are dealing with a beloved elder sister's kidnapping, physical, mental, and emotional torture, (maybe, even attempted sexual assault) and subsequent trauma.
While at the center is Chandini, the person who was assaulted, it is heartening to see the show address how siblings and close family have their own difficulties in dealing with the situation.
Kudos to Chandini...for gathering the courage to re-enter the "everyday" world despite numerous fears / insecurities that still ail her...and kudos to her family, who understood and respected that she can set her own pace at moving forward. Indrani could have simply imposed that Chandini needs to be make an appearance at maha-aarti; instead, all we get is a mother patiently contemplating whether her daughter can make that big-leap.
Until now, I thought Shikha woman-handling the male population of Allahabad is just another "tom-boy" characterization trope. I found it annoying that she always resorted to physical violence especially when the two recent situations involving the YouTube-r were nearly-harmless pranks.
Today, I realize that it's her defense mechanism, her emotional (revenge) reaction; and that it stems from helplessness and inability to protect her sister as well as her determination to ensure that history does not repeat. The social stigma affixed to her sister combined with the rage she feels towards Chandini's offender has turned her repulsive to men's advances and this hypocritical society that misplaces blame and responsibility on the victim than rightfully to the offender.
Her rage is justified but only if it is directed towards that particular offender.
While Chandini has grown withdrawn, Shikha has turned cynical, and there's Meghna (?) who strives for balance. Together, they make a great support system. I would like to see more of them now.
