Should public be compensated when movies fail?

Should public be also compensated when movies fail at the box office or they see a trailer and go and purchase tickets for the movie only to see that their favorites role has been trimmed or the CBFC has removed certain scenes as its pretty much false advertising?
Could we not argue that distributors who are refunded due to loses atleast has some responsibility as they knew the risk and gambled their money but what about the common man? It may not be a lot of money but it may still mean something to them? If the makers of Tubelight want to set an example of being fair then does it only limit to the distributors and not the general public who expected more from the movie and were left disappointed?
I know this is a far fetched thought and I am simply arguing the semantics but I dont see who gets to decide how ones money problems is greater than the others?

NO!! :o
Movie is art basically, they do acting for their own pleasure as much as to share, to touch the viewer's heart/head and to spread message/s.

Nobody owes anybody in this little relationship between the artist and the audience.

And naturally, for every movie there will always be a part of the audience that dislikes what they see.. now the artists/production of every movie cannot go on giving us audience a refund... there will be peeps walking out of theatres claiming to be dissatisfied just to get a refund.

Fair enough. Then why are they refunding distributors? They equally took the risk and gambled their money to invest in such movies. If you were a fan of Govinda or Fawad Khan or any other actor and find out that their roles have been trimmed do you not deserve to be refunded for such false advertisising?

@bold --- IDK how the business of cinema - distribution works :(

But no, I will not ask for refund, personally.. False advertising is bad though! Maybe I would write to CBFC if I had that much intention to send a complaint? 😆 ..idk, pata nahi, practically speaking, who would I be able to ask for refund? BO wala will not give me back my money since he has deals with someone who distributes the movie to him and he would merely be playing it on his theatre... uska kasoor nahi hai na.

I think backward flow of money on demand by public would only cause chaos.. Practically not possible.

Maybe they are able to refund distributors because they are few in comparison to the population.. I'm surprised it's been done.

No, now a days people are smarter most people go watch movies after reading reviews. AMC theater decides how big of theater they are going to show Indian movie after seeing India's business.

Now most of the people read a review of a film before going to watch it
Some even wait for the film to come on TV
Very few go to watch without knowing much about the film
So It is not practically possible to refund each and every dissatisfied movie goer
Many people can misuse this chance as well

The main reason for the failure of a film is because public DONT go watch it. So not many to compensate. The few who do go should pay for their bad judgement 😆😆
