I think the mother does not want Akshay and Myra to meet because she is scared that the relationship will break, and she wants to avoid that at any cost.
In fact, like mother like daughter. Both want to hide their heads in the sand and pretend that whatever is happening around them is not happening.
In the mom's case I can still believe that with age she has become more determined to ignore the things she dislikes, but honestly I find it more and more difficult to believe each day that Myra cannot see that what Kabir says is true. Or for that matter that irrespective of whether she marries Kabir or not, she definitely needs to rethink her upcoming marriage with Akshay.
