The duo play army officers in an intense
crime-drama based on true events that hits
screens in 2018.
After the MS Dhoni biopic, National Award-
winning director Neeraj Pandey is back in
action with his 2018 release, Aiyaary. He
has wrapped up the first, seven-day
schedule in Kashmir and is presently
shooting on the outskirts of Delhi. The
filmmaker will be in the capital for the next
three weeks after which portions will also
be canned in Mumbai, London and Oman.
Based on a true incident involving two
army officers, the intense crime-drama
follows two strongminded individuals who
have completely different views, but are
both right in their own way. It features
Manoj Bajpayee as mentor and Sidharth
Malhotra as his protg.
Talking about the first schedule in Gulmarg
and Pahalgam, as well as at border posts
which will be referred to as undisclosed
locations in the movie, a source close to the
development told Mirror that the team
interacted closely not just with the locals in
the Valley but also the army, including
jawans living in camps near them. "It was
humbling to witness the difficult conditions
in which the jawans lived and the constant
danger they faced. For the jawans too,
interacting with Sid and Manoj and posing
for pictures with them was a wonderful
experience, adds the source.
Kashmir has long been a picture perfect
backdrop for Bollywood blockbusters
from Kashmir Ki Kali to Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
However, after the September 18 attacks on
an army camp near Uri in which 17 army
personnel were killed, filmmakers had
halted shooting in the state. But Neeraj,
who is known for his critically acclaimed
films like A Wednesday, Special Chabbis and
Baby, had a smooth and safe filming
experience in the Valley.
"Given the kind of films Neeraj and Friday
Filmworks always make, people everywhere
have faith that he will not misrepresent the
locals or the state as a whole. The
authorities were extremely supportive
given the sensitivity of the story and the
shooting locations and it was a wonderful
experience for everybody involved,
concluded the source.
