Wanted: Indian actors to play Aladdin and Jasmine in Guy Ritchie's film

Guy Ritchie is looking for Indian origin actors as leads in the upcoming live action film, Aladdin.

Are you a Guy Ritchie fan? If yes, then here's your best chance to work with the legendary English filmmaker. The 48-year-old is looking for Indian origin actors as lead characters in the upcoming live motion film- Aladdin. An American casting company has issued a casting call asking for interested candidates to come and audition for the titular roles of Aladdin and Jasmine.

One of the requirements from the many that the candidates need to fulfil is that they need to be either Indian, or of Eastern heritage. "Please apply ONLY if you have Middle Eastern Heritage OR Indian Heritage (from the country India). this is a requirement, a part of the announcement read.

The last date to submit the application is tomorrow, and the advertisement suggests that the auditions will happen within two weeks in Delhi and Mumbai.

^^ Exactly this casting call was announced in London months ago but looks like nothing panned out. Though it's weird they are looking for Indians when Aladdin is a Middle-Eastern folktale set in China.

Oops you edited but the part about Indians and Arabs was true 😆

I hope this isn't as bad as Guy's U.N.C.L.E and not a boring musical (for me at least) as Into the Woods. Aladdin is better off as a drama/adventure flick than a musical, but this is Hollywood, so I trust them to destroy anything half decent.

LOL. I did. I didn't want to start any trouble. 😳

But yes i am sorry but Aladdin is a Middle Eastern character and an Indian should not be playing the role. And especially when the Indians hate the Arabs and taunt Pakistanis of pretending to be Arabs (which we honestly don't).

So there, i guess i am stirring up s**t again. 😆

I only noticed Middle Eastern on the poster, no Indian heritage mentioned. Hmmm !!!!

Wanna bet many of our desi folks who cannot sing will turn up hoping being pretty will be enough and they will have playback singing 😆

Me thinks it will be eventually cast by someone from the USA or UK, either hispanic or black. But could be a big break through for anyone who can sing in English especially Middle eastern or desi.

^I'm very cynical. Sometimes I think they put out casting calls like this just to say they tried to get an ethnic actor but couldn't find anyone good enough. Then they will cast a hispanic/black actor, maybe even a well known one, and be able to avoid the racism calls.

The poster came out months ago as a part of auditions. I dunno if they are expanding the search to India or this particular writer wanted Indian actors to submit their profile.
