Why do TRPs matter if they got a year extension

If they are adding all this drama to gain or retain TRPs why do they need this?
Sony gave them a year extension right? So sony realizes what this show is doing for their channel regardless of the TRP so why ruin the show in the name of TRP now?

If TRPs don't matter why don't the writers tell the story they want to instead of catering to TRP audience?

The writers of this show have been given a golden pass to tell their story and are ruining it. They have a lead pair that has a huge fan following, they have an extension because the the show's fans, they have syndication internationally so what is the reason they refuse to be unique and creative and tell a meaningful story.

At this point if they stopped the current story and said sorry we're going to do a reset and start from scratch and tell you the story we originally intended to please forget the leap and the everything that happened after the first break up I'm sure the audience would continue supporting this show.

The could start all over again and the audience would still be glued to the tv, in fact, I think they would gain back all their lost followers who quit due to all the nonsensical drama for TRPS

After 3 months of the leap, I have no idea what this story is about because the characters change their stance with every episode and basically rewrite history over and over.
What is this story about now?

It's not about Trps but they have to stretch the story for a year. If they show Dev and Ishwari realizing their mistakes and redeeming themselves what will they show next one year

But I agree they have butchered characters especially Dev, his core qualities are gone
