eternelle lune
The gravity of the Earth holds us no more, when the shimmering light of the moon takes over two souls.
**
The pitched black roads surrounded by the tall trees of the forests on either sides.
The moonlit sky, accompanied by the dazzling stars.
The cold breeze swaying the leaves of the trees in a gentle rhythm.
An aura that was indefinable.
And then the divine sight right beside her, with his hands on the steering wheel as he drove the car through the apparently endless road, glancing at her, at regular intervals.
Taking a deep breath, Khushi asked him once again,
"Please?"
.
He gave her that infamous smirk in return, slightly shaking his head in denial, taking advantage of that masculine charm that was infectious to her as she pouted her lips and muttered to herself,
"He's seriously not going to tell me anything. Devil!"
.
Khushi could bet he would have heard that as she watched him trying hard to control a laugh and concentrate on the driving, while she turned her face away to look outside the window, staring at the objects waving away as the car sped and all those tall trees continued to appear and disappear in fractions of seconds.
.
Like always, she hardly knew what was to come.
Maybe many things about her had changed in this span of time, but that didn't change this basic trait in her.
She still hated surprises.
Letting out a deep sigh, she tried to control her impatience, tried hard, tapping her feet and playing with the screens on her iPhone to keep herself distracted.
.
"You know we can talk. That's a better way to overcome your curiosity and keep you away from thinking where we are going."
Arnav spoke sarcastically in his husky voice, while she pursed her lips and gave him a glare, acting to completely ignore him and continued to bury her gaze into her mobile's screen while he finally couldn't control it anymore and chuckled at her antics.
.
.
The devil was really testing her patience.
And no matter what, he always turned out to be the winner!
She was still trying hard to endure the impatience when suddenly she felt him hitting the brakes and the car came to a screeching halt.
Finally.
Her lips parched in confusion while he undid his seat belt and opened his side of the door, coming to her side in a jiffy, offering her his hand.
For a moment, she felt a feeling of dj vu take over her mind, recalling a similar situation when he had first taken her to the Sciarrone Mansion, to meet his family.
Adjusting the hem of the long ivory gown she was wearing, she accepted his hand as she walked out, and he closed the door of the car behind them.
.
.
Khushi darted her eyes frantically, trying to fathom where they were but no proper answer came her way.
Perplexed, she looked at him for any sensible reasoning and that's when he spoke softly,
"Walk with me."
.
.
She could feel her pulse getting faster, as he held her close to him, leading her through the narrow path midst the tall trees, whilst she matched her steps with him, trying to keep up with the pace.
The moon shone brightly at its peak, being the only source of light in that dark ambiance as she walked with her knight, who she fondly called Devil, under that endless horizon, the nocturnal journey marking another adventure in the world of witchcraft, unknown of the destination, unknown of everything.
.
.
Khushi didn't have any sense of fear as her faith resided in him and her heart beat only suggested that she belonged with him.
Walking for about five minutes, she suddenly felt his feet stop after reaching his desired destination, his countenance exhilarating while she looked around her and her gaze finally settled down at one point.
The sight got her confused right away.
.
Was that a house?
In that secluded corner?
She inquired in her mind as she watched a house in a distant corner, slightly vague to her eyes under that night sky.
It had no grandeur yet the view of it was so contending, so serene, so peaceful.
For a while she was lost in the essence of tranquility that the place offered her, and that's when the devil, Arnav squeezed her hand tightly and ushered her forward.
.
.
As they stepped ahead, the silence appeared to speak its own language in the form of the sound of the crickets, and the tranquil nature of the atmosphere was reflected in the form of the brightly shining constellation of stars in the sky.
His hand holding her by the waist, they finally reached the entrance of the house and Khushi watched Arnav taking something out from his pocket.
A key?
What does that mean?'
She thought to herself.
She stood in silence as she watched him putting the key inside the keyhole and the door instantly obeyed the command as it opened in compliance, as if following the orders of its own master.
Giving her a smile, Arnav took her hand in his as he guided her to step inside the house with him.
Lifting the hem of her gown slightly with her other free hand, Khushi finally entered the house following his footsteps, leaving the door ajar behind them.
.
The structure.
The furnishings.
The paint.
The place.
It all seemed to be so old.
As if belonging to a different century, yet the smell, the essence, the nature of that house was so welcoming that she couldn't deny the peace of her mind as she darted her eyes everywhere.
The wooden carvings on the walls, the artefacts placed in those showcases, the curtains, it all gave her an impression of something so heavenly.
It wouldn't be easy for one to garner by looking at the house from outside that it was indeed so spacious in reality and had so much inside.
Khushi stepped towards the tall wall, tracing a painting hanging on it with her fingers, studying every minute detail of the brush that it was drawn with, so beautifully.
That is when a thought occured in her mind.
This was his creation.
It had to be!
She could bet on it.
Khushi had seen his masterpieces back in his room, when he took her to Sciarrone Mansion, and she was dead sure of her capability to judge his creations by now.
With a triumphant smile on her face she turned to look at him and before she could say anything, he spoke softly,
"This is my ancestral house, Sunshine. The only belonging I have left of my own bloodline, of my real family."
.
.
The smile on Khushi's face was now replaced by a heart wrenching expression as she grasped how much of a sentimental value this place would actually hold for him.
She reached out for him, holding his hand as she looked into his eyes and witnessed an innocent boy, who only craved for love, affection and nothing else.
Who only longed for a normal life, surrounded by his loved ones who were invaluable to him.
The strong, violent, unbreakable man now stood as a defenseless, emotional being who had zillions of emotions battling in his mind right now.
Khushi knew all about his ugly past, and having grown up without her father's love she knew how important it was to have your both parents around you. But Arnav wasn't lucky because he had lost both his biological parents and though Ralph was there for him, he was more like a guide, a mentor to him, than a father on whom a child could thoroughly depend.
Arnav had a lot of respect for Ralph Sciarrone, for whatever the man offered him, but the small boy who was suddenly relinquished when he was so little by the death of his parents, turning him into loner, a heartless individual, still craved for love, longed for warmth, and Khushi wanted to give him all that she possibly could to never see him upset again.
.
.
Stroking his cheek with her thumb, Khushi cupped his face between her hands as she gave him a small, gentle, assuring kiss on his lips, conveying it to him that she was there for him, no matter what, and nothing could go wrong anymore, like he had always been there for her and assured her the same in the past.
.
She felt her effort working as his lips curved up into a smile and he entwined his fingers with hers, leading her with him to proceed further in the house.
.
.
It seemed as if the things remained completely untouched here, every single item perfectly fitted in its place, but there was not a layer of dust in anything, nor any damp anywhere.
The crockery on the table, the antique mirrors, it showed such crystal clear reflections, not a puny mark disturbing the setting.
Of course she knew, he would have taken care of everything, making sure everything remained unharmed, unchanged, not willing to tamper with anything that reminded him of his life givers, his family.
The house was a legacy to him, the only symbol left of his parentage and he for sure never wanted anyone to harm it.
.
"I used to come here with my parents when I was a little kid. This house actually belonged to my forefathers."
He spoke with a glint of happiness in his eyes, rejoicing every little memory attached with this place, the walls, the corners, everything.
Khushi smiled at him, equally elated by the feeling as it reflected her own self, resurfacing in her mind the time when her mother Adrianne had handed over her dad's car to her on her 18th birthday, and she had cherished it unlike anything, considering it to be the lost and found memory of her beloved late father.
.
.
"..And later after everything was over, I only came here when I needed to be in solitude, wanted to spend my time cherishing those long lost memories.."
His vulnerability was so evident in his voice as he spoke.
Khushi just wanted to pull him close to her and convince him that there was no looking back now, but she instead just smiled at him, loving to listen to him as he spoke his heart out.
.
.
"It's a part of me I never wanted the world to witness Khushi. I have always been afraid of revealing my weakness, pretending that it would get dormant by the passage of time, but I was wrong. It never really left me. I was bereft of everything but not my underlying weakness."
He looked at her with passion in his eyes, as he continued,
"But, you broke all the walls I had built around me, Sunshine. All the barriers that I had placed to conceal my emotions, you overcame all of them. And only you have the right, to know this side of me."
A surge of pride and happiness took over Khushi as his words hit her, making her heart swell with the sudden euphoria that was showered upon her.
"..And now, I want to let go of all the bad memories Khushi. I want to create new memories, our memories, here."
Khushi could feel an indefinable jolt of surprise greet her as she heard his words but her heart's rhythm was defying her thoughts, because unlike her stupefied thoughts, it was racing way too fast.
She was overpowered with joy as the impact of his words finally began to sink in.
For a moment, she was indeed speechless.
She wanted to abide by all the rules that she had set for herself in life. Utmost of which was to never over rate any moment, because moments were to come and go, they were all going to end.
But she herself couldn't deny the fact that come what may, memories were always going to stay and they had no control over that.
Giving him the brightest smile, she walked with him towards the narrow corridor to take a look at the wall, adorned by some paintings.
All of them exceptionally beautiful.
'1914'
The year on the painting instantly gave her goose bumps, history always intriguing her under any context.
"That's my great grandfather."
Arnav spoke as he stood behind her, both of their sight fixed on the painting, looking at that strict man dressed in a white suit of that era, his face too disciplined, his gestures so poised.
"He was a gem of a person. Gifted with too many talents."
He added.
Khushi turned to face him as she slightly nodded her head and then lifted her gaze in enquiry, implying him to give her the reason for his statement.
How was his great grandfather gifted with too many talents and what were they?
He held her hand as he ushered her towards a room, while she waited for him to answer her question.
.
.
As the door of the room opened, a strange sense of familiarity hit Khushi.
Though she had never come here before, yet the room had such a warm, welcoming quality in it that she instantly felt as if she was home.
Khushi looked frantically around her as she saw the giant white bed, the golden lights and the long white satin curtains covering the big windows.
The book shelf on one corner held so many novels, music CDs, whilst two paintings remained hung on the opposite wall.
It was not needed for her to guess that this was his room.
If not literally, then definitely for the time he spent here in his solitude he used to stay here, in this very room.
.
Letting out a sigh, he leaned against the wall at one corner of the room as he finally spoke,
"My great grandfather, Joseph, was blessed with the power of foreseeing the future."
Khushi narrowed her eyes at him as she raised her eye brows in confusion, and asked,
"But isn't it a part of witchcraft? I mean, Amelia knew too that I was going to possess Meredith's countenance. So even she could foresee things, right?"
Arnav gave her a brief smile as he looked at her and continued,
"What Amelia saw was different Khushi. Future always varies. It can change, anytime, anyhow. Amelia was never sure about it, that what she predicted was going to be true. If your father Stephen wouldn't have married your biological mother, then all of it would have been a myth by now."
Khushi listened patiently while he spoke, his words too precious for her to hear as he said further,
"What Amelia saw was a possibility, a prediction. She wasn't sure of it herself and hence she kept the letter for you and didn't allow you to have it until you were 18, matured enough to know what's right, understanding enough to comprehend things about Meredith and witchcraft."
Khushi stared at him, anxious to hear more while after a period of brief silence, he continued,
"Witchcraft has its loopholes. Limitations. Whatever you may like to call it. But Joseph, he was never wrong. It's like he had premonitions and whatever he said always ended up being true. As if, when it was his word, the future had to follow it rather than vice versa."
Khushi looked at him, dazzled after hearing what he said.
It was so fascinating to come across this fact. No doubt people were so proud of their powers in the world of witchcraft. Especially, when one possessed such unique powers.
"Whatever Joseph said, people were compelled to believe it. It was like a permanent deadline. No one could refute it. What he said, had to be right and there was no denial from anyone."
He added.
The truth invaded Khushi like a stranger, for once making her recall her nightmares for no reason.
Those flashes would be the last thing she would want to think of right now and hence, she decided to completely act oblivious to them.
.
"He would have made great money in this century with all the numerology, astrology stuff you know."
Khushi said out of levity, giggling, trying to still take in the fact of such flawless weapon that the man possessed.
She instantly saw the devil giving her favorite smirk at that statement.
And so, she was glad that she had at least managed to make him smile, even if it was out of her bad sense of humor and her poor approach to levity.
Seconds passed by and the silence began to grow in the atmosphere. He still leaned against the wall while she looked at the paintings, when suddenly a peculiar question popped up in her mind.
She thought for a while whether she really wanted to ask him that, but later gave up on her resisting power and finally spoke,
"..If he said, you being with me will lead to futility and something very bad, then would you leave me?"
Khushi knew her question would have hit him like an unexpected storm as he stared at her, still trying to decipher her words properly, taken aback wondering where did that question even come from all of a sudden.
She gave up on her hope, thinking he wouldn't answer her question when no words came her way and considered his silence as an answer which only meant he wouldn't be with her if it were the other way around.
But her speculations were proved wrong immediately as she saw him nearing her in just a few strides.
For a second she thought she would lose her balance and fall but he held her firmly by her waist as her eyes delved into his and met his penetrating gaze.
Pulling her closer, he planted a soft kiss on her forehead as he whispered to her,
"Yes, I would have believed him. I would have considered his words to be true. I would have even believed if he said, us being together would lead to futility. But-"
He paused as he softly brushed his lips against hers and barely whispered once again,
"..But I would want you to face that futility with me, Sunshine. Us, together."
.
.
"As much as I would have considered Joseph's words to be true, I would have considered my heart's craving to be true too. And I know, without you there is no reason for me to exist and hence, I would be ready to take all the chance in the world, all the risk to have you with me."
"I know I would have been upsetting Joseph that way, if he were alive, but wouldn't I be upsetting the Almighty who had given me this life to live for once only? And wouldn't it be a sin, if I didn't follow the trail that my heart wants me to follow? Wouldn't it be wrong if I didn't respect the decision of my soul regarding who it wanted to be with?"
.
Khushi's eyes were all moist as she heard those words from his mouth.
The unconditional, undying love in his eyes reflected hers, as he caressed her hair and she found herself lost in him, in her soul mate.
.
She went closer to him, just about to kiss him when a sound stopped her midway, distracting her, as she pulled away from him and narrowed her eyes in confusion, darting her sight at all possible angles.
So engrossed she had been in their talks from the past hour, that she hadn't realized the sound previously at all.
But now it was so prominent to her ears.
But what is it?'
So melodious, yet mystic.
Khushi pouted her lips, unable to disclose that mystery when she suddenly saw him smirking at her, enjoying her confused facial expressions which only plastered on her how perplexed she indeed was!
"Okay, this is seriously NOT funny. What is this?"
She asked in a high pitch voice as she watched him cross his arms across his chest, relishing her frustrated looks thoroughly, making her angry all the more.
She looked around herself, finding everything intact.
The walls, the bed, the showcases, the book shelf, the curtains.
It was not any sort of music at all, that she would search for a music system to decode the source of the sound.
But then again, what was it?
Agitated, she pursed my lips, sitting on the bed with an angry look when she saw him approaching her, his smirk replaced by a divine smile now.
His hand was going to touch her when she yanked his arm away, giving him another glare as she spoke,
"Go laugh! Don't tell me anything."
He chuckled at that remark as he said in his husky voice,
"You look cute when you fake an angry look, you know."
Khushi was going to shout on him but her anger melted right away as he held her by her shoulders, looking into her hazel eyes as his own deep brown orbs only held a strong fervour as he almost whispered to her,
"Ssshh... Just listen to it carefully."
His hold transformed her into a statue as her restlessness began to fade away slowly, fitting perfectly in his embrace.
She obeyed his order as she closed her eyes, the silence feeling so peaceful and the sound became more and more prominent as she concentrated.
Half a minute passed as her understanding level began to play its role slowly and she finally thought she had found it.
.
Her eyes jerked open as she smiled at him, conveying it with tremendous happiness and vigour to him that she had got her answers, when he reciprocated the smile and stepped towards the end of the room taking quick steps, moving the long white satin curtains, unveiling the magnificent sight in front of her as her eyes grew wide seeing her thought to be true.
.
.
The endless ocean with their waves hitting the shore, making its own rhapsody, the profound melody appeared like a heavenly sight to her.
The sound now so prominent, was perfectly audible to her ears as she watched the dark ocean through the transparent French doors of that room.
No one could ever tell that the extension of the house could actually have the ocean facing it.
"..It's..It's beautiful."
She spoke, dazzled by the beauty in front of her as she walked ahead and stood beside him, taking in the cold, euphoric breeze that hit them from the dark moonlit ocean.
.
"I know.."
He replied to her softly as they both continued to stare at the ocean.
"I never knew, the ocean would have its mark here."
She whispered.
It felt as if they were bounded in some time warp as they watched the waves hitting the sandy surface, halting only feet away from the doors of the house, making their way back as another stream of waves hit the same spot, going on with that same game moment after moment.
It was as if they were conveying it in their own way that this was the safest place for them to be in, their own haven where the powerful ocean too acted as an armour in its surreal disguise, shielding them from the outer world full of deceit and lies. Of danger and worries.
Taking in a deep breath, she lifted her head to look at the night sky as the twinkling stars met her vision and that brightly shining moon stood at its peak, enveloping them in its perpetual embrace.
.
.
It was so calm.
So serene.
Khushi felt like framing this moment, praying fervently for it to never end.
.
"ternelle lune"
Khushi heard him whisper to her, when she turned her head to look at him and saw him smiling and sighting the moon at the same time.
He never failed to surprise her, impress her with his unbeatable skills.
Now was no different.
'A genius in French too.'
She thought.
But wasn't it true?
It truly was ternelle lune.
Eternal Moon.
.
Her eyes never grew tired but she wanted to change the course of her vision now as she continued staring at the night sky, accompanied by him, when he slowly held her hands in his and turned her slightly to face him.
.
.
His sparkling eyes reflected his raw passion, the growing desire, the possessiveness he had for her.
Something that she had grown fond of over the last few months that they had been together, known each other.
Her heart beat increased tenfold as she found herself to be captivated in his majestic gaze once again.
Her emotions were uncountable and at the same time indefinable as she found herself lost in a whirlpool of passion, ready to surrender herself wholeheartedly.
She had so much love for him that she feared her heart would explode someday not able to contain it all within herself. They had been through so much, in different magnitudes, at different times of course, but the truth was that Witchcraft had both been a boon and bane on them, and for months now, it was only the latter that made its presence felt more than the first.
Her life had taken a 360 degrees change the day she had unintentionally committed that mistake in the solus ad copy of the Sciarrone's event back in Verman Press Association and for days and weeks she had considered that mistake to be the biggest one she had committed and wished to go back in time and fix it, but now..
Now she would never ever dare to change it because that one small mistake made her come face to face with the biggest possession, the most precious person in her life.
Her devil.
Her Arnav.
.
.
He lifted her right hand with his left, bringing it closer to his lips, kissing the tip of all her fingers one by one, taking his own sweet time, while she closed her eyes, feeling weak in her knees with his magical touch that only bound her in a conspiracy of unconditional love, where there was no chance to escape.
She clutched the side of her long dress with her other free hand, while she tried her level best to control herself, failing miserably in resisting his sweet assaults, his irresistible teasing.
Pulling her closer to him, he placed butterfly kisses on her forehead, followed by her nose and then shifted his attention to her flaming red cheeks and trailed his way down to her chin, making her fall prey to his ministrations like always.
.
.
He was that predator who had the capacity to unleash the unknown aspects of her own being without her knowledge and there was no denial that he was the only one who had the power to do so.
Khushi felt herself losing the grip over her own body as he placed wet kisses on the nape of her neck, down to her throat.
His sweet torture through his touch was creating a sweet havoc inside of her and she knew that she was losing herself with every tick of the clock, and no, today she didn't want to stop either.
Unable to take it anymore, she threw her arms around him, burying her face in his hard chest, a little coyly because she still didn't know what this would lead to, and though she was a lot more brazen as a witch, when it came to her dangerously passionate lover, she was still learning.
He smirked as he saw her movements and put his arms around her in return, pulling her into a bone crushing hug.
Her bosom collided with his chest, as her heart pounded heavily and she almost heard their heart beating in the same pace, mirroring their feelings for each other as their breaths mingled at the same time.
.
She could feel his hands caressing her hair and she only felt so vulnerable to losing her sanity any minute, given the effect he was having on her with every single touch.
He slowly pulled away to look at her as her green emerald eyes met his dark brown ones, resonating every single encounter that they had had in the past, starting from those days of hate to that of love.
From dusk to dawn.
From danger to dare.
From daunting to discovering.
From haunting to humane.
From confusion to passion.
From insanity to sanity.
From darkness to salvation.
And from nothingness to surrender.
.
The pad of his thumb traced her lower lip while she gasped closing her eyes, her lips parting in shock as she finally felt him crash his lips on hers, his tongue thrust deep inside hers, savouring the sweetness, plundering her mouth like a man long starved.
She felt tremors course through her body, as his kiss turned wild with passion, a burning desire, while he held her tightly by her waist, their bodies tightly wrapped against each other, hip to hip, heart to heart.
.
.
The cold winds hit her as the waves in the ocean continued to play their own melody, making her shiver, but his warm embrace made her feel so secure, so safe as her hands continued to rake through his hair.
.
.
Moving away from her lips, he then kissed her jawline, later placing open mouthed kisses all over her face as he whispered sweet nothings into her ears, making her breaths hitch, getting her flustered as he pulled her entire flush against him.
Arnav wanted her.
He wanted his sanity, his desire, his heart beat, his soul, his light, his salvation, all of which was Khushi.
He knew his past, his demons, and if there was only one person who could make him outgrow all of it, it was this girl, this petite girl wrapped in his arms right now.
He had hated himself for being so cruel to her and all his acts from the past where he had hurt her, manhandled her, had only hurt him so much, to infinity and beyond that all he wanted to do was make every gentle, every stroke of his, every protective embrace of his to make up for all his ill deeds towards her in the past.
She was strong, he knew that.
Her powers, the Vermount blood, all of it was within her.
But to him, she was a fragile young girl, and he always wanted to be her knight. He would not let anyone even dare to cause her any harm and he had vowed to protect her till his last breath.
And reiterating that vow in his mind, he kissed her deeply once again.
.
.
Khushi could feel the heat building up inside her as thousands of emotions radiated in her soul, that only wanted him, desperately.
And she knew he too wanted her the same way.
They weren't different.
No matter how different they looked and behaved on the surface, they both knew it that deep down from the inside, they were just the same.
.
Her cheeks flamed into red, and her muscles ached as she surrendered her entire self to this celestial being, who was only hers, who was the Angel in her life, her Devil.
"I love you."
She whispered looking at his smouldering gaze, while he softly nibbled her ear lobe, nuzzling her neck and he finally replied with the signature smirk adorning his lips,
"As I love you."
.
.
Khushi smiled at him, her breathing still ragged as she watched him pull her closer to him and his hands reached for the strap of her dress.
She closed her eyes tightly, as she felt his fingers playing with the thin straps of the dress she was wearing, the one that he had only gifted her for this evening while her small fists held the fabric of his black tux.
.
.
Her heart beat at a rapid pace as she felt him lowering the strap of the dress, placing a wet kiss on her bare shoulder, making her drown in a pool of desire, victimizing her to melt under his strong grip on her.
The stars still shone brightly, as he looked at her face, brushing his lips softly against hers one more time, as he finally lifted her in his arms at one smooth go and walked towards the huge white bed placed in the centre of the room.
.
.
His gaze was locked on hers, as he gently placed her on the bed, getting on top of her, careful not to hurt her in even the slightest way, while his palms were joint against hers and he placed them on either side of them, resting them on the pillows, taking her in for another deep kiss.
.
'You sure about this?''
He whispered huskily against her ear, his warm breath creating further havoc on her skin, while she closed her eyes, her own insides churning with disease.
She opened her eyes only after some seconds and chose to answer him with her actions rather than being verbal and looking deep into his eyes, she wrapped her hands around his neck as she pulled him closer and brushed her lips against his, letting him know what she truly wanted.
It was him.
It would always be him.
.
.
The eternal moon and the infinite stars witnessed their union, as they finally succumbed to their desires, marking a new memory of their eternal love underneath that night sky, accompanied by the perennial ocean blanketing them, which remained as the sole witness of their consummation, of their salvation as they became one, being buried in the ocean of love, where they only belonged to each other and nothing else made any sense, absolutely nothing.
.
She didn't know what was to come.
She didn't want to know.
She didn't want to foresee.
She didn't want to be scared.
About anything.
But this moment
This moment and the memory was to stay, forever.
