The Raven Visions
Emotions were threatening to break her down but Jayantika was not the one to quit. It was technically impossible for them to undo the bounds and put her in danger and the face of her long lost aunt was more than enough a reason for her to wait and see what they wanted her to see.
" Dear Jayantika. If you are seeing this message, it means that I am no longer in this world. It means that I have died fighting against Bhishmeswar, the man who has wrecked havoc on everyone's life and turned a boon into a curse. I was the previous Digpalika and before I had set my foot into the final battle, I was supposed to give a name who would have the potential to succeed me as the Digpalika and I, bound by my duty, chose you as my successor, Jayantika. "
Jayantika gasped at the sudden revelation but her aunt Swaha's message continued to play, " You must be really angry with me and you are right in your place. But please don't let your anger cloud your intelligence and stop you from taking a right decision. You will have all the power to decline being the next Digpalika but don't do so without realizing how important you are to this world now. That is my last request to you, Jayantika. Please be safe and know that your Mausi always loved you. Hope you take a good decision and whatever it is, the Praudyogischutz will have to accept it, so don't worry about that. Good bye."
Just as Swaha's message completed, Pranav directed her to watch one of the recent memories of his; the result of the last attack by the forces of Bhishmeswar. The abominable sounds of the birds of prey, lunging at their feast and quenching their thirst of blood filled her ears while fear gripped her. She was facing the reality from which her parents were hiding her from. She was informed that people will die but not in such a gruesome manner.
The birds of prey were biting off parts of partially living beings who were howling in pain, waiting to be liberated from the torture but their fate turned its back towards them. Their soul continued to be latched to their body which were being withered into pieces and devoured right in front of their weak and dazed eyes. Sweat was pouring off her temples, while she felt her whole body tremble in fright. Her concentration was slipping and the visions were growing hazier but her focus grew sharper when a scream of a woman reached her ears.
She found herself eyeing a woman who was being dragged with force free of leniency. Her painful shrill screams could have melted the rocks but her captor seemed to be much worse than a rock could be. The woman's fate was sealed by Bhimeshwar's generals; she would never see light and if she does, it would be physical and not emotional. The war prisoners were treated like dirt on both the sides of the war but Bhimeshwar's side seemed to pull itself down a bit more than the resistance.
Jayantika stood astounded and petrified:astounded that she was chosen as the next Digpalika, the one who would be able to stop the darkness from drowning everyone and petrified as she wondered if she will be able to do it, or cause more delay, more pain to the Praudyogischtuz when she fails to do it.
Was she capable enough?
Just as the question struck her mind, her eyes met with those of Pranav's distressed ones. Kushal and Manasi were trying to overpower the paralysis but their wavering concentration and emotional turmoil was not helping them in their battle. Jayantika couldn't see anything but signs of pain, etching themselves on the canvas of her mind. She knew that the flashes she had seen in Pranav's mind would be impossible to erase from her mind, no matter what she does.
Pranav was awaiting a question from the thoughtful lady who had overpowered him and Jayantika made sure that she didn't make him wait for long. " How are you so sure that I will be the right person to be the next Digpalika?Just based on Mausi's words?"
Pranav's lips curled as the memories of the woman mentioned by her niece brought in myriads of feelings. " No. That made you the option for us and we had Atharv watch on you," Pranav pointed towards the grey-eyed man beside him while Atharv took off from him, " We always had you watched, Jayantika. Although we are sorry to have breached your privacy, I sincerely hope that you understand the reason behind it."
A whimper left Kushal's lips as he managed to overpower Pranav's strong Shaschlaf. That diverted the attention of the other three people to him and the lightning of realization had struck Jayantika. She had completely forgotten about her parents, thinking about so many people being tortured and killed and knowing more about this institution.
Jayantika turned back to face the men. " Can you free them now? I will listen to you and that's a promise."
" I wonder if they will let it happen if we undo the Shaschlaf. So if you can promise come with us to the headquarters and listen to us before deciding on anything, we will let go of your parents."
A whimper was heard again but this time it was a feminine one and Jayantika knew the meaning behind it. Her mother didn't want her to accompany them to the headquarters, maybe after what happened with her sister. But she knew that her conscience wouldn't let her live with the fact that she just let many face torture so that she could be safe.
Ignoring her mother, Jayantika gave her word, " I will. Musktostenlos! Now release them," she turned to her parents and said, " I am sorry Mumma and Papa, but I will not be able to live with the guilt if I don't do this."
Taking a second to feel their limbs once again, Pranav and Atharv stood upon their feet and stretching their limbs. After enjoying a second of relaxation, Pranav held Jayantika's hand in his and the Praudyogischtuz commanders chose their target and commanded, "Jaagchen!"
Just as Jayantika's parents found their freedom, their daughter had vanished from their field of vision along with their captors and Manasi let out sob,
" Why did you do this, Swaaha?"
