Sources close to Madhur Bhandarkar's film Fashion reveal that Priyanka Chopra has been asked to lose more weight as she prepares for her role of an anorexic model.
The film starring Priyanka, Kanagan Ranaut and Arbaaz Khan is the director's depiction of the fashion industry.
Bhandarkar's film revolves around the ups and downs in the life of a model that is a part of the fashion industry and will be told from Priyanka's perspective. "Models in India are very thin. If you look at any of the popular models they are around 5'7" and above but their weight is around the 50kg mark if that much. So now if Priyanka is to realistically portray the models and the fashion industry she needs to get into their shape physically as well," says the source.
We spoke to a dietician Jyoti Mehta who says that the rule of thumb is that a person's ideal weight is calculated such that for every 5 ft we allot 100 pounds and another 5 pounds for every inch. "If Priyanka's height is 5'8" then her weight should be 63 kgs. But because they are in the limelight and films she can afford to lose another 10% but that's about it. However, her said current weight is already below the ideal weight mark," says the medic.
Jyoti adds that models in India are well below their ideal weight and therefore if Priyanka is to replicate their look then the director's demand to lose weight makes cinematic sense. "But she or for that matter any one needs to be very careful. Don't starve yourself to reach a weight which is already unhealthy to reach. Exercise to lose and don't stop the food intake," she warns.
Priyanka Chopra had previously too lost a lot of weight during the filming of Don with Shah Rukh Khan as she underwent intensive training in martial arts and kick boxing as a part of her preparation.
