Words cannot explain what I have gone through in the last 72 hours," says Smriti Z Iraani. The actress has been in a state of shock after what happened on Saturday afternoon.
Smriti survives incident on a highway seven hours from Mumbai
After finishing her KBC2 shoot on Friday, the actress was supposed to go for a darshan to Lord Krishna's temple in Dakor, in Kheda district (six to seven hours from Mumbai).
Even before the journey started, she says, the actress could sense something was about to go wrong. "I wasn't myself on the KBC sets. Even Amitji asked why I was so quiet and if everything was all right. In fact, my mind was restless and I wasn't even concentrating on the game."
Locked in
Smriti left the KBC sets late at night to meet husband Zubin, who was accompanying her on the journey.
After the darshan early on Saturday morning, she planned to return home some time in the afternoon. Smriti and Zubin were driving in a Scorpio, along with some other friends. All of a sudden, there was a loud blast in the car, that was doing around 100 kmph. The fan belt broke away, causing an explosion.
"As soon as the explosion happened, everyone ran out of the car. Zubin opened the bonnet to check what had gone wrong, but I remained sitting inside. I don't know what was I was thinking, but it didn't strike me that I was the only one locked up inside the car."
Bad feeling
Then someone told Zubin, "Bhabhiji is still in the car." That is when the actress was pulled out. No one was hurt in the accident, and the car was towed to Baroda; her brother-in-law dropped the couple back home.
Reliving the experience, Smriti who still isn't over it, says, "There are certain things which are left unexplained. I had a feeling all along that something was about to go wrong. I can still recall the words of an old lady in Dakor — that my show is based on the life of Thakurji, and so is my life."
