If 2016 has showed us some thing it is Bollywood is in bad shape. With only handful hits and few entering coveted 100 crore club, it is dire situation. 2017 is the year when Bollywood needs more hits than ever or Bollywood will lose ground big time.
Which is why Khans are actively helping each other out, increasing the visibility of newcomers and pairing up. Each khan is doing something to help promote movies and Bollywood. If rumors are right, Salman even visited the sets of JJ. And it could not have been easy for him.
Bollywood unfortunately works on star system and not content. More than anything Bollywood needs young superstar. It was brought to head when I had chat with my niece and her friends regarding Bollywood.
They have already pegged Aamir as 50 year old "Haanikark Bapu". But it was their shocking reply to TZH - "who wants to see that old man on bike", that made me think. It did not matter to them that both Salman and Aamir are fit for their age. They did not show any interest in Raees. The thing is younger generation is not all that interested in Khans. To them Khans, Kumar are old guys. Ageism is unfortunately true.
One of the reason why regionals are flourishing is because there is not a great difference between actor's age and the audience. It makes them relevant to younger crowd. So here is the thing for all those who wish BKD, JJ, Paddu, Raabta, Judwa 2, Munna Michael,Reloaded flop- understand this with every flop- Bollywood will lose its younger crowd and its money to produce next movie. It is time we start focusing on how many hits Bollywood churns out every month.
Out of top 10 stars that BOI posted, most are from older generation. Handful are younger generation of which none have proven staying stamina or have strength to give ATBB on their own. And that is much more worrisome.
1 -200 crore and 300 crore from older generation or regional is not going to help. This is something Khans have understood and why they are actively supporting efforts of youngster. Lets support the endeavor of our idol and start supporting Bollywood.
