Here's the big buzz. Amit Varma is joining the award-wining cast of 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby' which won the Best Serial award of Indian Television. He is going to play the love interest of Baby.
Excerpts from an exclusive interview:
Q. How do you feel being part of a successful show like 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby'?
A. It feels great and it becomes even better as this show is associated with my good friends Aatish Kapadiya and J D Majethia. It feels great to be part of a hit show.
Q. You have been a part of Hats Off Production since 'Khichdi'.
A. Yes, my television career started with 'Khichdi' and I was also part of 'Instant Khichdi'. So, it is great to get back with JD and Aatish and work with them. It's a good experience.
Q. Tell us something about your character in this show.
A. It may sound typical but seriously speaking he is a serious, nice and a different character compared to what I have done till now because I have always played either a spoilt brat or a manager who is like a charming guy as in 'Hotel Kingston' or a flirt like Raju in 'Khichdi'. In contrast, the character in 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby' is very quiet and intense. He doesn't talk much. He's intelligent, a day-dreamer, very romantic and so on. This is something I have not played in any earlier serial.
Q. With whom are you going to be paired in this show?
A. I think it is going to be opposite Baby.
Q. You have been part of 'Kittu..Saab Jantii Hai' and 'Hotel Kingston' as a lead actor and here the show is successful and the actors established. Did you feel apprehensive?
A. If you join an ongoing show obviously you can't shoulder the show because you are joining the show midway. But the way Aatish has written the script, my character emerges as a lead.
Q. 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby' is one of the most popular comedy shows of television today. Which is your favourite character in the show?
A. My favourite character has to be Gattu, played by Devan Bhojani. He is really good. He is very cute and very funny. He himself is such a great actor and does it so effortlessly.
Q. Which role of yours will you consider best till date?
A. I would say my character in 'Hotel Kingston' – that of Vish - is the best till date.
Q. Hats Off Productions is planning to make a movie of the show 'Khichdi'. Have you been signed for a role?A. I don't know about it because I have just heard from JD and Aatish that they are making a movie based on the show but it is still in the conceptual stage. Therefore they have not zeroed in on the actors.
Q. Which other shows are you doing besides this one?
A. I am not doing any other show. Currently I am only concentrating on 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby'.
Q. Any other plans apart from acting? How about production or direction?
A. Not as of now. Let me enjoy my career as an actor.
Q. What would you like to say about Aatish as he has been the writer of some of the best comedies like 'Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai' , 'Khichdi' and now 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby'?
A. I think I don't need to say anything about Aatish as the entire industry knows how talented he is and whoever has seen or met Aatish will understand that he is one of the most talented, creative, brainy and intelligent people. To me he is a very good friend and so I may be biased about him but I will personally like to say that he is the best writer in the television industry will eventually be so in the film industry too.
