I loooved him in Rajneeti! In fact that's when for the first time I became devoted fan of him..his expressions were too good!!!

Also, Barfi + Rockstar + Tamasha were HUGELY commercial movies.

Personality based is movies where his ever famous man child role is at full display.
The three character based movies are extremely driven by his character which has strongest arc. Take him out of equation and there is hardly any movie left . Females were reactive to his character or supporting his narration. This is no reflection on their individual acting skill which was marvelous in 2 out of 3 movies.
Commercial movies I added to fluff movies that are light and did not test RK's skill set.
Hidden gems are small hearted movies like Rocket singh or even Saawariya that is visually stunning and well acted or very well acted Bombay Velvet.
Ensemble is Rajneeti where there were multiple characters all with good scope. I don't see that many in RK's movie list.

He is one of the best actors we have in current generation, if not the best. I fail to understand why he doesn't challenge himself more.

Rockstar was semi hit

Tamasha was flop...

I don't know what kind of his movie I like.. btw I liked his acting in rockstar and barfi.. but I didn't like these movies.. barfi was what it was but rockstar could have been so much better.. huge let down.

My fav RK characters r from Rajneeti Barfi n ADHM
So I guess I love all sorts of movies if he's in it

But Rajneeti is my fav as that is what made me fall in love with the tremendous actor in him

Personality-based means that there is no prep work done (recce work, etc) before movie shooting . They just infuse their own personality into the character.

Character-based: Actor does Recce work before filming (he did for Barfi, Rockstar & even Tamasha)

Those 3 movies you mentioned movies were commercial but his characters were not the commercial-seller type.

OT: Obv, character-based movies for me. Ranbir doesn't have that flamboyant of a personality to infuse into his ADHM & YJHD characters forever (at-least as of now). He needs to hide behind a character whose world is unknown to him (like the ones mentioned in the list).
