Draupadi stands out unique in the epic Mahabharata for being married to five men at the same time.

But is she just that? Wife of five men? Is that how she would have liked to be known as for eons to come?

Did she always dream of marrying five men?

on the day of her swayamvar she like any girl in her place would have was looking forward to getting married & sharing rest of her life with A honourable young man who would pass her father's test and whisk her off and that happened too!

Arjun won the swayamvar, but what happened after that was something Draupadi would have never foreseen even in her wildest dreams. She went with Arjun & his brothers to meet Kunti, who without even knowing what exactly Arjun had recieved told that "whatever" he recieved would be shared equally among the five brothers.

And that is what happened. So in all this Who is Draupadi? A victim of circumstances.

Now I'll keep Vivi's part short because we all know what happened to her, She was looking forward to getting married to the love of her life, not in her wildest dreams did she think that her father would be planning something else behind her back and would turn out to be a slime ball.

He got her boyfriend beaten to death and she had to make a decision to get married to someone of her father's choice to save his life. Who is Vividha here? A Victim of circumstances.

Draupadi had five husbands but (According to many records) even though she did all duties of a wife equally to all five of them her heart was partial to Arjun alone. It goes on to prove how rituals can make you duty bound or feel duty bound but can never really bind your heart.

Yes Vividha is indeed a modern day draupadi, she was married to five and Vividha is married to two, She has two husbands: one legally married and one that her heart chose for her or Man ka pati as many would like to address.

Draupadi couldn't undo what happened to her, she had to live with that however Vividha can and she will! after all what are epics for if you cannot learn something from it?

Vaish what an absolutely wonderful post! Brilliantly written.

I always felt that although Vivi was physically performing the wedding pheras with Ravish, mentally she was marrying Atharv remembering eac of their vachans as she was taking the pheras.

Plus she always maintained that with her heart and soul she considered Atharv her husband.

I don't know much about the mythology you've mentioned but the analogy you've given is brilliant.

But unlike Draupadi, Vividha will not live in a that was done to them by Kailaash marriage she doesn't believe in. Together with Atharv they will undo the wrong and make things right.

If ViTharv don't get married, then evil has won, hasn't it.

I have just knew about Mahabharata and draupadi from what I have seen on TV. But like you said Draupadi was also a normal girl who wanted to get married like a normal person and have a normal life with her husband. It was not her mistake that she had to become the wife of 5 husbands. And yes Draupadi always remained loyal too Arjun, because she considered him her husband.

Now coming to Vividha, She has always considered Atharva her husband from all her heart and she has open about it to everyone. But that doesn't mean she doesn't respect Ravish as a friend. Vividha is indeed a modern day Draupadi who is snot scared of telling society whom she loves.

One is mann ka pati, other is naam ka pati. Heart over mind anytime.

But Atharv is no Arjun, he wont divide or share Vv with anyone. There is a lot of clarifications that Atharv needs to have with everyone in that house.

Exactly whispa! if vitharv don't unite then it would be Kailash's evil deeds that would win.

Vividha is going to get herself out of this situation along with Atharv and set Ravish free from any commitments and promises that he feels obligated and Draupadi is a great comparison to make!

She had many attributes to her other than being married to five men, but unfortunately they are overlooked.

Exactly Princess! it's like people only want to look at the deed and not the situation.

Draupadi wasn't aware what turn her life was going to take and never did she think she would one day be married to five men.

Vividha Loves Atharv and that's what matters! Divorce was invented to get rid of unwanted relationships and that is what she'll do because she has a option that Draupadi was not given.

Of Course heart over mind anytime monu. And yes our Atharv is no Arjun, he would never share his girl and put her in an awkward situation no matter what!

Vaish what a beautiful analogy u have given. Hats off.

I thinks that is what the cvs are trying to show here. That times have changed . It's time women take a stand against the injustice they are being made to suffer.

And here she even has her soul mate who will stand by her no matter what .
