Chapter 14 Continued -

Arnav was aware Khushi was indeed too young... They had 7 years gap between them. She was just 21 years old where as he was 28, well settled.

"Khushi, I have nothing against your career or ambitions. In fact you can work with me again if you want" Arnav proposed.

"I don't want to work with you ever" Spat came a reply from Khushi. She was surprised to even hear him proposing to work for him again.

What was he expecting? Would she ever work with him again after he treated her like hell and made her life miserable in his office? She almost died because of his reckless behavior and rash decision to send her to work from guest house... Did he just forget how he treated her in his office and never acknowledged or apologized?

Arnav realized looking at her pained face that he was uncalled for opening her old wounds. He hated himself that moment...

"No worries. But I am never against your wishes or your career. You can take as much time as you want Khushi. I will support you in every decision" Arnav was trying his level best to convince her and with lot of patience...

"Why don't you understand? I am not ready for any such thing. I want to concentrate on work here and look forward to what destiny has for me. I have left all those old aches, feelings behind. That is why it was so important for me to forgive you so I can also move on in my life" Khushi was begging him now.

Arnav was really disappointed, beyond hurt but how can he blame anyone else but himself?

He had never seen such a determined Khushi!! He really liked the positive changes in Khushi that she was voicing her opinion, standing up for her own choices in life and yet it clearly meant their relationship was doomed before it starts!!

"It's OK Khushi, take your time. But never forget I really love you and will wait for you" Arnav knew it was going to be difficult to convince Khushi right now.

"Thank you Arnavji... I really hope you understand... And yes, this time I will come to you if I feel we have a chance to be together... Every time you cannot have an upper hand or you alone cannot decide everything if it is going to be a genuine long term relationship... You alone cannot keep on walking in and out of my life hurting my feelings like that... You cannot alone decide when you want to express your feelings and then expect me to simply accept it or abide by it... And yes, fling is not what I am looking for. I have always craved for a lifelong relationship full of love, trust and I strongly feel I should have equal say in everything... I expect my partner to share everything with me be it his worries, darkest emotions and not just love... I expect us to be one in all senses... I can live simple life with not much money happily but cannot compromise on my dignity, ethics and beliefs..." Khushi concluded and she felt relieved that she could ultimately put her thoughts out there in front of him...

She had definitely grown out of fear nor did she feel intimidated by him anymore!! And if he really loved her and wanted future with her, she knew she had to step up and make him respect her for who she was... Taken for granted was a thing in the past! She won't let him do that ever again!!

Arnav had expected anything but this... He was shocked to see to what extent he had made her feel so low about the relationship or any future with him... She had backed off completely... And the big time damage was already done... She was rejecting even the idea of relationship with him...

Knowing Khushi and her personality, he knew she was way mature... She would never act shallow to compare herself with his DI, family or ask for more importance and attention. He knew she just felt so alone handling all those situations and she could not even share her inner turmoil with her family or her jiji... Her life was never same after he had released the video... First he and then Shyam had punished her for no reason... She was one of the most pure, nicest soul and was simply overwhelmed with storm life had brought upon her... Her statement that she would never able to love anyone made very clear to him that she still loves him immensely... She faced everything all alone being very brave, but somewhere it made her break so hard and go away... May be more than Shyam's attacks, it was his ignorance, not accepting his own feelings and not conveying at the right time... She had seen how possessive and protective Arnav was of his things or his family!! Yet he failed so miserably to show same possessiveness and protectiveness for her even though he claimed he is been love with her for so long... He did realize he had taken her for granted... He was complex man with own experiences in life, it was hard for him to accept his feelings, took his own time and it had taken a toll on her...

Everything would have fallen in place and they could have embarked on a beautiful relationship if he had given her the respect and assurance at the right time but it was too late for now... It was always him and his behavior that pushed her over the edge...

The only good outcome was she was learning to stand up for herself and her say in things around her... Today he understood in true sense, the determination she had shown in her eyes when she had rejected his marriage proposal... She will survive just fine, he knew right then...

And few minutes ago, he had seen the glimpse of real Khushi with her room mates, acting carefree, behaving her age, relaxed, and enjoying simple things and freedom of her life! Her own friend circle, work, things to do and explore... He had never seen her so happy and carefree before... He didn't want to clip her wings now...

May be some more time and the distances will make them both realize each other's importance in their life and bring them together... Or maybe not!!

Arnav decided to step back and go back to India. Khushi had made up her mind, not even ready to hear him out and he was not going to force her... His heart still had hopes that they just needed some time to heal some of their deepest wounds. He would give her some more time and may be down the line, he can again try to pursue her...

From his side, he was very sure, it was either Khushi that he would marry and spend the rest of his life with... Or else he anyways never believed in marriage and would stay unmarried!! Marriage was mostly for her to respect her beliefs and her family!! For him, she was the one with or without any ties...

He was prepared for his repentance and ready to wait forever and ever!
