To prove worthwhile for Deepika Padukone there has to be acceptance by the audiences in the States, only then there is a possibility of good films from Hollywood coming. There is a lot of hype in India how Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone have made it in the West but it all seems more PR in India. Being in the news is very different from success. The best way to explain this is that in India we have possibly 10-12 successful stars (male and female) but far more than that are in the news everyday but that does not make you stars as when the crunch comes and their films release, forget tanking they don't even open. Priyanka Chopra has a television series Quantico but the success of a television series there is measured by how long it can last as the channels are quick to stop shows and Quantico ratings are not too good. It will be the box office of XXX - Return Of Xander Cage with Deepika and Baywatch with Priyanka and then what work comes after which will tell how they have fared in Hollywood.
OK Jaanu reunites the Aashiqui 2 team of Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor but that film had super hit music and universal appeal with is not there with OK Jaanu. This will be a metro film depending on word of mouth of the premium multiplex crowd and it has Xander for competition which will probably do better unless the film is very poor. In the South the Telugu film Khaidi No.150 opened yesterday to a earth shattering response in Nizam / Andhra. The film may have set an all time first day record in the state and its all India GROSS box office could be among top ten of all time for all films in India. The film is likely to affect the business of Xander as these sort of films have a big market in Andhra.
Coincidentally this week reflects the point made in this article (Link Para 4). The Hollywood film is affecting the Hindi release as its niche cinema while the Telugu film will make it very hard if not impossible for the Hollywood film in its areas as its probably how Telugu cinema should be. The content being liked is another matter but at least regional cinema is giving their films a chance with cinema that the audience at least gives a try and sometimes in hordes like for this film Khaidi No.150.
