Ryan Gosling, like all the nicest people, is Canadian. And Dev Patel was born in Kenya, raised in London, is here for playing an Indian raised in Tasmania.

Completely agree with you!

During Indira Gandhi's long reign as PM, there was no internet, no FB, no Twitter where celebs or common folks would express their views/ shock/outrage.
Its twitter which has given current BW celebs a platform for expressing their opinions.

But in the old times, there were newspapers, magazines, etc which published articles criticizing the government.

Except during the Emergency, throughout the years there was criticism of the ruling party in news articles, in the media, by writers, journalists, social workers etc.
We common folks also used to openly discuss, criticize the government without fear of retaliation.
Film stars back then used to join politics in opposition parties but their movies were not targeted.

U r talking like nowadays people dont criticize Modi and Govt. English media hardly praise Govt. I buy two english newspapers and hardly there are any govt supporting articles except articles written by BJP MPs.

Anyways on topic, SRK and AK didn't criticize the PM, they criticize the Indians in general. I didn't see Streep criticizing Americans and saying they are so intolerant that they elected Trump. In fact, they keep talking about Trump and never talk about the Americans who elected him.

In India, Khans keep calling Indians as intolerant and then keep hugging these politicians.

Even during Emergency there was the famous incident of Kishore Kumar refusing to sing free for some program organized by Sanjay Gandhi. That time he was targeted and called names. But beyond that I dont think much happened. Its funny how most of today's non Congress politicians trace their rise in politics from Emergency times.

Anurag Kashyap had some questions for the PM. But instead of getting an answer he got hurted replies and taunts from some ministers.

@mrs khan and others as well
since you had raised the issue of double standard by celebs , here is the example of one by meryl streep herself
she was very happy in giving standing ovation to roman polanski 😆

Now coming to your point about anurag kashyap , I would like to point towards the case of anupam kher when he raised the issue of kashmiri pandits and was called sanghi and RSS goon in turn.
Further lets see the example of vivek agnihotri whose film buddha something was panned by left leaning critics like raja sen without any logic and did not meet with any support from film frarternity.

Hence I conclude that all celebs be it bolly , holly or any other national are just hypocrites and do not deserve attention when it comes to important issues.

PS- If you fell offended by me telling you directly or I seem personal then I am sorry mrskhan and I will be more than willing to remove your name :)

He was taunted, yes. But he was also appreciated. Both things happen in democracies, isn't it. It is not, that Meryl Streep is not taunted. She is equally praised and taunted.

I loved her speech. ESP "put your broken heart, make it art." Which was super-duper awesome!!! And pretty deep if one thinks about it. But while I loved her speech I felt it was a bit grand-standy. There wasn't any need to talk abut Trump on that platform so while I loved it I was a bit confused as to why she felt the need to talk about Trump on the GG stage.

This politics and intolerance is a very tricky subject..
In earlier days there was no internet..no Twitter.
Doordarshan was a government channel and newspapers were considered honest news bearers..so people believed them.

Nowadays there's so much available information. One wrong news reporting and there r tons of posts contradicting it with proof. Reporters cannot get away with whatever they want to show..which is what happened in 2002 godhra incident.
Modi has faced and still faces a lot of biased criticism by the media since then..even now u can say that mainstream Indian media is anti government..but there r many online portals which highlight the work done by govt which is very rarely reported by media. Common man has access to all the information.
And this has become a touchy topic for the people of this country. Modi has been wrongly crucified and vilified for all this years. So India gave it's opinion by giving him a huge win. Still media is not ready to accept it. India showed by standing with him during demonetization. Situation is such that even if someone speaks a bit against govt. or modi supporters there's a huge population on Twitter ready to troll them. India wasn t intolerant as such, but was forced into being intolerant

Anupam Kher I feel is selective...uses Kashmiri Pandit issue to bash people opposing the government. Other times he is quiet. Though I agree many times he speaks sense. Vivek's film I heard was really bad. So I dont see what is the issue with Raja Sen criticizing his film? He criticized Befikre too for instance. Raja was doing his job and films being criticized by critics is no big deal. But when Ministers, ruling party MPs start criticizing people for their views its worrying. Raja Sen doesnt have as much power as them. Film fraternity is certainly selective in support. We saw it multiple times last year and hence I have zero respect for them.

PS: No offence taken!

While this article does mention Bollywood celebrities, the topic itself is a political one which is unrelated to Bollywood discussion. As a result this topic will now be closed.
