Chapter 5 Continued -

Arnav knew why Khushi vanished suddenly and went for a sleep over? She surely must have seen him coming and wanted to avoid him... And he knew she was working so hard and keeping herself super busy to forget insults from him and move on... Though he also knew that he deserved her ignorance very well, it hurt him bad...

Because Arnav's men had followed Khushi, he was aware about her routine and where about... How she had started her college and further education, job with Mehta Fashion House plus tuitions at home... She was very young, yet she had that kind of positive energy to get past over her personal issues to come up as a winner and support her own family in a new city...

He was so proud of Khushi!! She nailed all the achievements by herself be it college enquiry and admissions, her job at Mehta house and tuitions - She got it all on her own merits... Not any help from others or him!!

If she wanted she could have easily got reference from Akash, he is her jijaji and could have easily put in words for her to get a job. But she did not use it to her advantage... Hell, she never even tried to exploit any relations for her advantage!!

Suddenly he remembered her eyes were shining when she had said no to his marriage proposal looking into his eyes. He had seen her determination to fight his wrong motives that would put her down... He felt a pang in his stomach...

Arnav was scared that he might have lost her forever... What if she never forgives him ever? He was so desperate just to see her, one look at her and he will at least survive few more days he thought... His guilt and restlessness was killing him...

Arnav was aware it was not going to be easy to meet her, apologize to her! He was not sure how to even apologize for such a blunder?

He had hurled very nasty words towards Khushi, always mocked her for her status, her class, culture and everything related to her!

To top it all, he had offered her money for the 6 months contract marriage!! How can he stoop so low and take her feelings for granted??

And yet she sucked it up all, every time she took in his words and still proved herself right by her actions! He had time and again accused her for things she never did. Forget doing, she was never like that but he never believed her innocence!!

Arnav was never good with apologies and this one needed big time apology and actions.

"Should he go to her college? No way, that will become a major media circus and a page 3 news and she will be unnecessarily dragged..." He thought. He had been chief guest at Khushi's college for many occasions in the past so college students and professors knew who he was... It would simply draw uncalled attention...

He felt his popularity was being a curse for him right now...

Plus Shyam would also get to know and will get alerted. He needed to meet up with Khushi privately without no one knowing about their meeting... Not even Guptas or Raizadas... He did not want any family members mentioning about Khushi even in a passing comment and instigate Shyam... He had to make sure Shyam will not have any clue about it...

"Can he go to Mehta Fashion House? Maybe with a casual business visit and catch up with Mr. Mehta. Act as if he never knew Khushi works there and feel surprised. Wait for her and talk to her... But then if her colleagues see her with ASR, she may not be able to work their peacefully ever, at Mehta House and office gossip will start..." His mind again chided him.

He had created enough problems for her in his own office...

"May be he should keep track and wait for the right opportunity" He concluded.

It was a long stressful night for both Arnav ad Khushi... Arnav for not being able to see or meet Khushi and Khushi for seeing him again, even though it was just a glance at him!

It pushed them both into old memories, some sweet but most were clouded with mockery, insults and betrayal...

Here is another change from original story... In this story, Anjali is not as fragile as she is shown and treated in the serial...

So now Arnav will handle things differently...

Chapter 6 - Harvard Brains at Work!

Arnav really wanted to punish Shyam but not so easy he thought. Just sending him to jail or away would not cut the deal...

He has to plan something better. He did all this for money. So Arnav wanted to make sure he was left with no money first. And without money, no will help in future as well...

Arnav planned tactfully.

He tipped one of his Income Tax Officer friend about Shyam's income and asked him to raid Shyam unofficially and make it look official.

"Can I meet Mr. Shyam M. Jha? I am from Income Tax Office" Ashutosh introduced himself.

Shyam came down and he was not sure why an Income Tax Officer wanted to meet him. Ashutosh showed him some quick document and Shyam was sweating profusely by now. Arnav smirked from upstairs looking at them.

"Is everything OK Shyamji? You look tensed" Arnav hated to see his Di worried for that jerk.

"Yeah jijaji, who is he?" Arnav asked.

"I am Ashutosh, Income Tax Officer. I had some work with Mr. Jha regarding his taxes." Ashutosh fake introduced himself to Arnav. With a very straight face Ashutosh greeted Arnav and Arnav did the same not showing any hints of knowing each other at all...

"Oh I see. You guys can carry on. I am in a rush to go to office today for an important deal. Maybe jijaji, let me know if you need any help from me" Arnav acted completely casual and returned to his room to get ready for his work.

He faked a meeting and spent an hour pretending to be on call. Gave Aman additional instructions.

Arnav came down to see Ashutosh's visit to RM had desired effects on Shyam. He was sitting there holding his head.

"Rani Saheba, nothing to worry about. When I have no estate or major income to show, what will income tax officers do?" Shyam was now irritated by Anjali's over concern.

Shyam did not know what to do. How can he justify 60 crores income in just couple of years being a regular lawyer who handled hardly 10 cases per year? And to top it all the transactions were in his own name and all properties also had only his name...

And how will he pay some much taxes against it now?? He was really feeling the anxiety...

He thought of asking Arnav for help without giving too many details.

"Arnav, needed a quick favor from you" Shyam requested slowly once he saw Anjali going towards kitchen...

"Sure jijaji. Anything for you and Di" Arnav encourage Shyam to share his concerns without hesitation.

"Usually how do you handle taxes when Income Tax people come for an audit and ask you explanation of any extra income?" Shyam asked without going into details.

"Simple jijaji, we have a proper income tax department with CAs who handle our taxes. They are experts and manage taxes for multiple interlocked businesses along with all family members' income and taxes. They show the income or losses across your family members or wife etc. Why you think we have assets on everyone's name in the house? In fact you can transfer assets and show it under Di's name. She has couple of charitable companies under her name plus her taxes are handled by AR corporate lawyers. They will figure it out" Arnav explained Shyam.

"That way you save on taxes and the assets still stay with you" Shyam was more than happy. Shyam thought Anjali was anyways his puppet so transferring assets on her name will not be a problem.

"Thank you Arnav, you saved my day" I will contact my tax agent and Shyam left.

"Di, why was jijaji worried about taxes so much. How much did he earn last year? Are you aware?" Arnav hi Di asked casually. He needed to shake his Di and start dropping hints for her to pick up and get alerted. Arnav had realized he could not wait until his Di delivers the baby because Shyam could hurt her anytime if he was still around her!

"I don't know anything, Chote" Anjali replied while eating.

"You should know Di. Now with the baby on board, you guys should start saving for the baby. I know Shyam saves lot of money by staying with us which is great. But you should discuss finances, work etc. just like any other couple" Arnav mentioned casually.

"See Payal is aware of Akash's work and his clients etc. Do you even know any of Shyam's clients or type of his job? I have seen most of the lawyers working locally where as Shyam always travels. You should travel once a while with him, understand and help him Di" Arnav continued.

"Hold on Chote, you gave me a big lecture. Okay, I got your point. I will help Shyamji from now on and more actively after the baby..." Anjali thought about it.

Anjali went to her room to rest. She was confused after Arnav's lecture. She knew Shyam never gives any money in the house or to her. She never knew how much Shyam earns? It is always her who gives him expensive gifts and even if he gets her something, they buy when they are together and she ends up using her credit card...

She found it weird. She had no clue about her husband's finances nor his work details. It made her curious. And even the pregnancy hormones were making her hyper these days... She just opened their cupboard and started looking for files.

She opened the first file that Shyamji had just now received from the Income Tax Officer. She opened the file and started checking details... And was shocked to see the first page indicating his income to be 60+ crores.

She just sat on the bed with a thud! File fell from her hands and just then Arnav walked to in to his Di's room.

"Di, are you busy?" He asked while picking up all the papers and handing the file over to her.

"I just wanted to tell you that let me know if jijaji needs any help regarding his taxes and take care of yourself" Arnav bid good bye...

Arnav had seen his Di checking jijaji's files so the worm of suspicion has started wriggling in the back of his Di's mind. Good progress, he thought. He hated to force his Di to do anything that would stress her at this stage of pregnancy but he had no choice.

And he also knew his Di was a strong woman...
