Not exactly review of episode. Just what I though seeing the duo on that couch.
I think Karan on KWK has got his job done. It is most talked about episode. He couldn't have chosen more diverse people - who are as different as cheese and water. Karan's intention was to reduce the negativity surrounding RK (his image is getting dry cleaned)- which could be happening if trend is to be believed. Ranveer was meant to entertain - which he did in spades. I mean I love the man but RK without movie is awkward. He needed someone to support him.
But by god, I have to say this the whole episode was scripted to nth degree.
There was sense of uneasiness between two which they couldn't hide (and which worked). Ranbir is now official member of VeerDP's fan club. I am not sure what it means for the fans. After very public sighting of hand in hand, Ranbir's comment was not unexpected. (I have promised not to use word PR). Ranbir made some Sanskari comments. His pitch was slightly wobbly (this must be so out of his comfort zone). But his comment on loneliness seems to be consistent. He is definitely focusing on his career and wants long one. This is music to some of our ears who thought he was giving up.
Ranveer brought no such baggage to the show. I was expecting more Befikre kind of promotion. I am happy to see it didn't come to pass. The Befikre attitude was bit muted. I had written way back. This episode is just warm up for Ranveer. Ranbir is not exactly ideal companion for him. He lacks spontaneity, is not good with words and is way too reserved. Varun is his ideal sparring partner. For one, Varun is super competitive and has too clean of an image. I want to now add arrogance to mix. Arjun was burnt and how. And I am still hopping mad at that sly Kapoor dig.
As for Ranveer's performance it was good. He seemed to be nervous but he gained steam. Ranveer's Sonam impression was spot on and I love his gift of gab. The man has arsenal of words at his disposal. I think he is really talented, not in same way Ranbir (or SSR) is. This is different. He has inborn knack to be entertaining. I loved how Ranveer could make everyone including Ranbir laugh. It felt good to see him sound more confident. 2015 was good year for him. Karan was for a change really nice to him.
What I found disturbing about Ranveer's performance-
He is burning like candles lit at both end, he has this obsessive need to entertain, he can't recalibrate his performance according to his partner and his image is irrevocably entangled with DP.
It makes me wonder if his fans will remain with him when he actual burns out. There are way too many platform and he is active on most of them. He seems to have trouble letting go. What will happen to him when both he and DP uncouple.
He is still vulnerable beneath that entertainer's mask. I am not saying he is not strong and growing stronger. It is that he is still few more hits away before he can say he has really made it in Bollywood.
What I didn't like about show (and episode)-
Karan's obsession with sex. It is getting out of hand.
The scripted feeling that made stars uneasy.
Whoever provided costume. Ranbir looked so uncomfortable that I thought for a minute he wanted to disrobe.
Staleness that has permeated the show. KJO needs to revamp the concept after this season or close it forever.

Kangana is new age Gabbar Singh for actors looking for love.
If DP had not come in between, flamboyant extrovert Ranveer would have done his best to form friendship with extremely introvert Ranbir. Their mutual praise was only thing genuine about this episode. Ayan would have found himself a new rival.
They should both do a movie together. I have changed my mind about Varun. I think they should take ARK who is sweet guy or Arjun and make Amar Akbar Anthony. It is one of Ranbir's favorite. It will be a perfect movie for 3 of them. With movie failing right. left and center it is time we go back to our original Bollywood roots.
Karan is genius and has pulse of Bollywood at his finger tip. But please don't try Sangam dear. It is not your cup of tea.
