Chapter 22

TWO HOURS LATER
Location: Yogsanjeevani (Khurana) Hospitals, Mumbai
Professor Dr. Krishnan Subramanium came out of OT and saw Dr. Anamika Singh sitting with her brothers. He first spoke to Geet in medical terms telling her the true medical problems which resulted in her collapsing on the seat present in the waiting room. Scaring Rudra and Abhi. Lucky had gone to pick up Beeji. Rudra finally asked, "Doctor what is wrong with our grandfather?"
"Mr. Handa, your grandfather's heart is very weak he cannot and I strictly mean CANNOT BEAR ANY KIND OF STRESS AND TENSION. His heart problem had started 10yrs. back but as he had not consulted any cardiologist it has deteriorated hence his heart is now functioning only 50% of how it should function at his age. Please take care of him!" Going towards Geet he said, "Dr. Singh as a medical professional and Mr. Gurucharan Singh's family you please see that what is causing him stress and try to remove it." Professor Dr. Krishnan Subramanium saw Matron trying to attract his attention and said, "Excuse Me!"
Location: Geet's room, Meera's apartment
Pari guided Thakur Amardeep, Savitri Devi, Jaswant Singh, Maan with Manu and Mini to Geet's room. The elders were surprised to see Geet's room walls decorated with photographs of all of them intersperced with twins baby days photographs.
But maximum photographs were of Maan. Pari had also entered Geet's room for the first time. Manu and Mini held Maan's hand and guided him to where their toys were. Mini said,"Papa Mini ki chair par beitho!" (Papa please sit on Mini's chair!) And made Maan sit on her cute pink chair.
Manu took Pari and said,"Bua, tum Manu ki chair par beitho!" (Bua you please sit on Manu's chair!) Both Maan and Pari were overwhelmed and had tears in their eyes. All the three elders were also overwhelmed seeing Geet's good upbringing who didn't try to distance twins from their father or his family due to her bad experiences with them.
"Papa, Daddu aur Dadi kahaan hain?" (Papa, where are our grandparents?) Mini the chatterbox asked showing her grandparent's photograph.
"Beta, woh Delhi mei hain." (They are in Delhi?)
"Kya Manu aur Mini unse mil sakte hain?" (Can Manu and Mini meet them?)
"Haan kyu nahi beta?" (Yes my child.) Thakur Amardeep answered.
"Bade Daddu, Manu aapse guwsa hai. Aapne Manu ki Mama ko daanta!" (I'm angry with you great grandfather because you scolded Manu's mama.) Manu stood with his arm crossed like Maan stands. Bringing teary smile on everyone's face.
"Agar Bade Daddu sorry bole toh?" (If great grandfather says sorry to you?) Savitri Devi tried to coax Manu.
"Manu se no sorry. Mama se sorry!" (Don't say sorry to Manu but to my Mama.)
"Maan yeh sachi tere par gaya hai!" (Maan he has really gone on you.) Bringing laughter from everyone.
Thakur Amardeep, Savitri Devi, Jaswant Singh, Maan and Pari continued talking and playing with Manu and Mini for about an hour when children started rubbing their eyes. Beeji went to Meera and asked,"Meera puttar, Guddo mera matlab Anamika bacchon ko kuch khaane ko deti hai unhein need aa rahi hai." (Meera, what does Guddo, I mean Anamika feed twins as they are sleepy!)
"Beeji, woh toh mai nahi jaanti magar haan aap unko dudh pila sakti hain. Waise toh Shanta Tai ghar par hoti hai, magar aaj uski tabiyat theek nahi thee, iss liye Anamika ne aaj chutti lee thee!" (Beeji, I don't know about that but you can feed them milk. Usually Shanta tai is here but today she is unwell thats why Anamika took off today!)
With both grandmothers and Meera's help Maan fed the twins then came the Herculean task to make children sleep. Meera gave a suggestion, "Veerji, aap bistar ke beech mei letiye aur phir dono bacchon ka sar apni left aur right par rakhiye aur unhein lori gaa kar sulaiye!" (Maan Veerji, you lie in centre of the bed and position twins on your right and left and then sing a lullaby to them.)
"Lori? Aur Maan bhai?" (Lullaby? Maan Bhai?) Pari exclaimed.
"Tumhei kya lagta hai Moti ki bhai gaa nahi sakte? Bhai bahut acche gaate hain tabhi toh unhei Bhabhi ki awaaz itna aakarshit karti thee!" (What do you think Moti, that Bhai can't sing? Bhai sings very well thats why Bhabhi's voice always attracted him!) Vicky told Pari. Vicky had come running when Savitri Devi had called to ask him to bring her and her husband's medicines to Meera's home and that they have also found Geet and her babies. By now the twins were getting restless and missing Geet. So Maan requested elders to leave. But Vicky and Meera stayed behind. Soon a warm melodious male voice filled the apartment, "Chandani re jhoom..."
Geet had just arrived quitely opening the main door and was mesmerised hearing a warm male voice singing a lori. She followed the voice and saw Maan was lying on the bed with Manu and Mini on his either side just like they slept with her. The lori stopped and the children were in deep sleep still filling the apartment with cool and calm aura around. Just then Thakur Amardeep spotted Geet who was looking tired, stressed and upset alarming everyone present. "Arre Guddo tu kab aayi beta? Savitri iss ke liye kuch khaane peene ke liye laao." (Oh Guddo, when did you come? Savitri get her something to eat and drink.)
"Nahi Daddu mujhe abhi bhook nahi hai." (No Daddu, I'm not hungry!) She suddenly looked as if she has come to a decision. Looking at Vicky she said,"Bhaiya, kya aap aur Meera thodi der ke liye bacchon ko dekh lenge? Waise bhi woh abhi soye hain, do ghante se pehle nahi utthenge. Mujhe Mr. Khurana se akele mein kuch kaam hai." (Vicky can you and Meera please be with twins? They have just slept so will be sleeping for 2 hours. I have to talk with Mr. Khurana alone!) Suprising all the family members.
"Haan bhabhi. Aap dono aaram se jaaiye. Agar bacche jaag gaye to hum aapko phone karenge!" (Yes bhabhi. You both please go without stress. If children wake up I'll call you!)
Once Maan and Geet left, Savitri Devi said to Thakur Amardeep, "Suniye aisa kya hua hoga hospital mei ki Geet ek dam se Maan ko akele mei le gaayi?" (Listen, what has happened in hospital that suddenly Geet has to go alone with Maan? )
"Kuch toh zarur hua hai haspataal mei jo woh hum sabse chupa rahi hai. Parjaiji se poocho Savitri kaheen Geet koi galat kadam na utta le!" (Definitely something has happened in hospital which Geet is hiding from all of us! Ask Mrs. Handa, I hope she doesn't do something untoward!)
"Bhai ke hote bhabhi kabhi bhi koi galat kaam nahi karengi. Aap sab bhelhe hi Maan Bhai se naraaz hone magar Bhai ne kabhi bhi koi galat kaam nahi kiya hai siwaiye ek dafa ke. Aur uss galati ke liye bhi aap bade kahin naa kahin zimmewaar hain." (As long as Maan bhai is with Bhabhi nothing wrong will happen. You all may be angry with Bhai, but Maan bhai has never done any mistake in his life except once. And for that mistake also somewhere you elders are responsible!)
"Vicky tum..." (Vicky you...)
"Nahi Savitri, Vicky sahi keh raha hai. Maana jo kuch Maan ne kahaa thaa woh galat thaa magar hum apni galati se palaaha nahi jhaar sakte." (No Savitri, Vicky is right! I agree whatever Maan had said was wrong but we cannot ignore our mistake as well!)
Location: Old depleted barn in out skirts of Amritsar
A bearded rustic strange looking man was sitting drinking locally made cheap alcohol when a ruffian looking man entered. "Veerji, Lala Gurucharan Singh Handa apna ilaaj karane videsh aur Umerika gaye hain." (Veerji, Lala Gurucharan Singh Handa has gone for his treatment to Amerika and foreign land.)
"Chup rahe bewakoof. Umerika videsh mei hi hai. Unke pind ka koi nahi Umerika mei rehta hai." (Shut up you fool! Amerika is a foreign land. None of Lalaji's family is in Amerika!)
"Aap toh das saal se jail mei the, aapko kaise patta? Aap jail kyun gaye the?" (You were for 10 yrs. in jail, how do you know? Why did you go to jail?)
"Mai jail uss Devdutt Banerjee ki wajeh se gayaa thaa. Channi ko maar kar khud to bacch gaya aur mujhe police se pakadhwa diya. Agar woh su** ki *****d Devdutt Banerjee mujhe mil jaaye toh mai usse waheen zindah daffna doon!" (Because of that Devdutt Banerjee. He killed Channi and framed me. If I catch that s** o* b*****, I will bury him alive!) "Geet ka kuch patta chala?" (Have you found Geet?)
"Nahi Veerji, dus saal pehale jab woh Maan Singh Khurana, Handa parivaar aur Geet ki beizzati karke gayaa thaa tabse Geet aur Rajji dono nahi mili hain." (No Veerji, 10 yrs. back the day that Maan Singh Khurana had insulted Handa family and Geet and left, since that day both Geet and Rajji are missing!)
"Mai toh Daarji se tabhi bola thaa ki Geet se meri shaadi kardo Pind mei Hand parivaar aur Geet ki izzat nahin ucchalegi. Daarji nahi maane. Mene phir bhi Daarji ko bahut samjhaya thaa ki Geet ka mere naal byaah kar do magar woh toh bass usse aage padhane ki ratt lagaaye hue the. Kudi ko byaah ke baad ghar hi to sambhalna hai, padhai likhai ki kya zarurat?" (I had told Daarji then itself, that get Geet married to me no one will speak ill about Handa family or Geet. But Daarji didn't agree. I again tried convincing Daarji that get Geet married to me. But he kept saying that he wants her to study. After marriage all girls have to do housework only than what's the need to make them study so much?)
"Accha, mennu ek gal dass woh saala Devdutt Banerjee kahaan hai?" (Ok tell me something do you know where that b*****d Devdutt Banerjee is?)
"Veerji, kuch din pehle mene Hawaldar Pinto Singh ko baat karte sunna thaa ki usne ek bacche ka Umerika mei kattal kar diya hai aur abb woh Umerikan kaid mei hai!" (Veerji few days back I overheard Constable Pinto Singh saying that Devdutt Banerjee murdered a child in America and now he is locked up in American prison.)
"Chalo accha hua! Abb tu apne do aadmiyon ko kaam pe lagaa aur pata karaa ki Geet aur Rajji kahaan hai? Mujhe Mohinder Handa ki Amritsar wali zameen chahiye hi chahiye!" (Thats great news! Now get two of your men to go and find information of Geet and Rajji's whereabouts. I want that Mohinder Handa's land in Amritsar!)
