"You love someone. You open yourself upto suffering. That's the sad truth. Maybe they'll break your heart. Those are the risks. The thought of losing so much control over personal happiness is unbearable. That's the burden. Like wings they have weight. We feel that weight on our backs but they are a burden that lifts us. Burdens that allow us... To fly."
- Bones, Season 4 Episode 26
Hello people,
So I finally found some inspiration for a new VM. In a line, this VM is about the unwavering nature of Sonakshi's love for Dev. The VM itself is a little more complex just as much as Sonakshi herself but I hope I managed to communicate the concept well enough. I have tried to explore some significant portions of Sonakshi's journey in love, mixed with which is a depiction of the nature of love itself.
What this video basically tries to say is that love is not a dream, it is very much a storm that envelops you whole and takes you with it. Sonakshi Bose had always been in love with the idea of love. Things change however when she is repeatedly exposed to the ache that comes with being in love with someone. Love isn't just about romance you see. It is about commitment. As Hodgins says, if you love someone you simply must be prepared to suffer. Sonakshi was a sensible, mature and practical person. She is used to being right, used to being the pride of her family. Her first brush with love is also the first time she truly steps into an uncertain territory. There is insecurity and fear of rejection here. So much so that even when Dev does confess his feelings to her, Sonakshi still wonders if she is caught up in a dream. Soon however, that dream breaks and Dev cuts her out of his life. She's angry, she's heartbroken and she is also resentful. Her parents insist that she deserves someone so much better. That she should forget all about Dev and in an effort to do just that she forces herself to move on and accept another man in her life. Then in the midst of some vastly inappropriate and stalkerish behavior from Dev, Sonakshi comes face to face with the true nature of her love for this man. If she is obstinate so are these feelings that simply refuse to go away. She had once described love as the most beautiful thing to have happened to her, now this very love has her crippled and weak... it's something beyond her control.
But is she brave enough to accept this? No. As much as I love Sonakshi's pride it also became her fall here. She cannot love Dev. She just cannot. It negates everything her parents expect of her. There is a choice here... The choice of trying to be the person her parents feel proud of, the one whose strength is applauded or the woman who is completely and irrevocably in love with Dev Dixit. Can Sonakshi rise beyond everything and simply love Dev? Or is she still too afraid of pain and rejection to truly give in? That is the question. She gets her answer when Dev collapses during her engagement ceremony. To see him lying lifeless like that is what finally liberates Sonakshi from the burden of being herself. Her love gives her the strength to let go of everything and rush to the man who has come to mean so much to her. As she says, "Mere pyar koi mausam nai hai.. Meri zindagi thi."
Her guilt kicks in soon enough ofcourse and she once against insists on pushing Dev out of her life. It is her Mother who delivers the timely reminder... That it was always Dev's selflessness, his inability to think beyond his family that made her respect him. In a way they are just the same. Sonakshi too rejected Dev's proposal because she felt guilty about hurting her parents in her moment of impulse and love for Dev. And as much as she feels the need to still rally around her pride, can she really live without Dev? When all is said and done, does she really not want to be with him? Even when no one could understand Dev and his actions, Sonakshi could. So why not now? Is she willing to take a leap of faith and seek what her heart truly desires? This man may be a total mess but she still loves him and she always will. That is her truth. And that is what this VM is all about.
I hope you guys like it. Sorry for the unnecessarily long ramble (Not that its unusual). And a belated thank you for all the wonderful feedback that you guys gave on the last video. It's been a crazy month for me so I was unable to respond to anything. Your feedback really does mean the world to me though so a big big thank you for always being so amazing and kind. Love you guys :)
Maham.
