I also think that Maya is most probably a victim of child abuse or child molestation and her culprit is her own father. May be maya's mother know about it but she has lost her sanity because of this.

I'm certain Maya's so called father is not what is driving her mother insane its probably the other person she was desperately waiting for in the first episode. But as for Maya I feel she doesn't like nor trust men courtesy her father or stepfather. When the very man who is supposed to defend and protect her from any harm abuses her what can she expect from others? In short maybe she hates men and even acts like one to show the world that she doesn't need a guy. I guess success could be a justification for her to live a lonely and single life.
