Another thing thats been bothering me a lot. In the initial promos (God rest their souls!😆) we saw Sona and Dev addressing each other as 'tum'. I liked the informality of it. I found it refreshing and relevant in the modern context. After all, they are a young urban couple who fell in love and knew each other for a while before that happened, so it would be natural for them to be casual and informal in their speech.
Initially when their relationship was that of boss and employee, we had both of them calling each 'Aap' which was fine. Then they fell in love and they were still calling each other 'Aap' which I found a little weird but I attributed it to the newness of the relationship and the fact that they had got into the habit of saying 'Aap.'
Now, just before and after marriage, it has suddenly changed to Dev saying 'tum' for Sona and Sona saying 'Aap' for Dev. Why?? He's barely 2 years older than her. And even if he were much older, why does he have to be given that extra respect? Merely because he is the man and her husband? This is exactly like most Indian serials and perhaps real life too, where for some reason the husband has to be addressed with greater respect. Calling each other 'tum' sounded easy and natural. I wish they had stuck to it.
Now if we see Sona wearing gaudy sarees complete with heavy jewellery and make-up, I'll know for sure we have entered saas-bahu territory. Can't a girl continue to dress the way she always has even after marriage?
