me and like many ones if I'm not wrong may learn few things of epic by this shows rather than books .so wat they will think .mythos also like sas bahu soaps where the title character who ever taken is whiter than white remaining all blackish ...

after ending this so called show I rewatching the shows which I saw in childhood.how beautiful they are ..

in my language "Sri bhagavatham " serial came nearly 12years back which depicted Vishnu stories and krishna leelas mainly nature of krishna through wonderful discussions between parikshit -suta sage ..I admire them .they depicted arjun krishna relation very well .kri arjun shared most of the screen and most of the love ..

now the same equation they shown btn karna and krishna .how brutal it is ..

along with spk .SKR too following the same way .by reading discussions of the show how distorting it is .felt so sad about our epics ..

Arjun Defeats Angaraparna
The journey to Kampilya is tedious. Pandavas and Kunti are determined to reach there before the Swayamvara celebrations commence.
They finally covered most of the distance and reached The Bhagirathi river. From there the city is distinctly visible with all its splendour.
Darkness just enveloped the surroundings . The night is serene and cool breeze from the river is quite refreshing to their tiresome bodies.
They want to go nearer to the river and take bath in the holy waters of Ganga.
After that they can enter the city and take shelter with some householder.
The night will definitely help them conceal their identities .

Arjun held the fire flame in his left hand and lead the others towards the river.
Suddenly he heard a voice."Who are you ? How could you proceed to the river at this time of night?"
Arjun gazed into the darkness and found a man adorned with golden ornaments stand on his way looking irritated.
Arjun informed him" We the Five Pandavas along with our mother came here to take bath. By the way who are you?" He questioned.
The stranger frowned at Arjun's fearlessness. He said in a rude manner." Pandav! The river shores at night time are meant for the enjoyment of Devas and Rakshasas.Human beings are allowed here only till the Sunset. You know who I am?I am Angaraparna,a Gandharva . My Lord is Kubera.
I always come here along with my wives and enjoy in the best way.

I don't like to get disturbed by mortals like you. Go away along with your family. You can take bath in the morning.
Kunti looked agitated and worried. Nakul and Sahadev made her sit under a shade.
Yudhishtir and Bheem waited to see the outcome of the verbal duel.

Arjun looked straight into Angaraparna's eyes and introduced himself. I am Arjun, the third Pandav. We travelled a lot to reach here. My mother is tired. She will enter the city only after taking bath in Ganga waters.
What you say is not agreeable to me.The mountains and rivers do not belong to any single person. They belong to every one. River Bhagirathi is to be worshipped by any one and every one. There is no restriction for us to worship this holy river. So don't try to obstruct our way."
Andaraparna fumed at the clarity and attitude of his opponent. He warned him " Arjun ! You look arrogant.Know that you are dealing with one of the closest associates of Kuber.I am not a weakling. I am a Gandharva who got expertise in archery. Dont try to challenge me Third Pandav"

Arjun smiled and said " Yes I challenge you. Try to stop me if you can"
Angaraparna rolled his eyes with anger. He stretched his bow, fixed arrows and shot at Arjun.
Arjun warded them off with his fire stick effortlessly.
He then stated." Since you are a Gandharva of Devine origin,I would use my Divyastr to suppress you.
This Agneyastr was obtained by Agnivesha from Bharadwaja.
My preceptor Drona got it from Agnivesha.
Guru Dron instructed me this Agneyastra with so much affection.
I hurl this towards you. Be alert.

Arjun closed his eyes, chanted the mantra and shot Agneyastra on Angaraparna.
Immediately fire rose around the chariot of Angaraparna and burnt it with sparks.
Angara Parna jumped from the chariot just in time to be seized by Arjun.
Arjun dragged him to Yudhishtir and threw him at his feet.

Angaraparna's wife Kumbhinasi followed them weeping bitterly.
She pleaded with Kunti and Yudhishtir to save her husband's life.

She turned to Arjun and folded her hands." Forgive him. He is foolish to fight with you. Please leave him"Yudhishtir and Kunti signalled Arjun.
Arjun made him stand up and said." Go now. Maharani Kunti and Maharaj Yudhishtir forgave you.
But try to be humble and respectful."
Angaraparna looked at Arjun with admiration." You are incredible.I heard of your prowess but now I witnessed actually how valourous you are. I cherish your friendship. You burnt my chariot. So I have to be Chitrarath from now onwards.I leave my name Angaraparna.
I will offer you my chakshushi vidya with the help of which you can see anywhere in the universe.
This is the power that distinguishes human beings from Devas. Take this from me.I also offer you five hundred Gandharva horses which can run faster than the wind. Please accept them."

Arjun nodded his head." I can't take your offerings just for saving your life. "
Angaraparn convinced him" Then grace me with your Agneyastra and take my chakshushi vidya and Gandharva horses."
Arjun agreed and accepted him as his friend.
Angaraparn advised Arjun to get Dhaumya as their Purohit as Kshatriyas should have one to guide them and protect their sacrificial fires He also narrated the story of Tapati,Surya's daughter and Samvaran ,the ancestor of Pandavas.

PS..Vinnas this is the story as per the Epic. Hope you enjoy Arjun's valour.

IToday is Ananta Padmanabha Chaturdasi. :

Krishna came to visit Pandavas in Exile. Dharmaraj asked him." He Krishna ! We lost our kingdom to Duryodhan. We along with Draupadi are suffering for no fault of us. Please tell us a Vrat that redeems us from our difficulties.
I know we can't do anything till we complete our incognito. Suggest it for our sake."

Krishna said." Yudhishtir, do Anant Padmanabha vrat with your brothers . It should be done on Bhadrapad Suddh Chaturdasi.Vishnu himself is Ananta Padmanabha. Worship him with devotion."

Arjun collected fourteen types of fruits and fruit juices. Draupadi cooked fourteen kinds of dishes with the help of Akshaya patra.

On Bhadrapad Suddha Chaturdasi Pandavas and Panchali performed the Vrat properly. Dharmaraj said,

"He Anant, He Padmanabh He Purushottam He Janardan you are the Lord. Forgive my misdeed. I did wrong by playing Dice. I did wrong by staking Draupadi. Be with us when we fight for our kingdom. Guide us towards peace and happiness."

Arjun closed his eyes and felt his Madhav in the form of Anant Padma Nabha the lord of Vaikuntha. He opened his eyes and looked at the idol with four hands holding Sankh Chakr Gada and bow. Draupadi offered Nivedan and did Arati. A sacred thread with fourteen knots is made and worshipped. Panchali got it tied on her wrist.

Ananta Padmanabha temple exists in Trivendram. Recently so much hidden treasure was found there which surpassed expectations and measurements.

On this Ananta Padmanabha Chaturdasi I pray to him who always Stood by the Pandavas who lead Arjun at every phase of his life, to be our guide and lead us on the path of dharma.

The TRUE CULPRITS of MAHABHARAT...Identifying them

Many will say it's the fabulous four of Mahabharata
viz.Duryodhana,Dusshasan,Shakuni and Karna, some may claim it's Dhritrashta,Some may assert that it's Krishna!!!! But first take a look at this...

In the book The Secret of Nagas-Shiva trilogy 2 Amish Tripathi says

" Lord Manu had said it's not people who are evil. True Evil exists beyond them. It attracts people. It causes confusion amongst its enemies. But Evil in itself is too big to be confined to just a few."

So what's the blessed answer?? Keep reading...

Karna was one of the finest men born on the planet.Everyone agrees to this. But he had one problem. He was living a Lie due to attachment to his friend Duryodhana and the fame and power he got out of it.He became Duryodhan's reflection and his only Desire was to prove his loyalty to Duryodhana.

Then what was Duryodhana's problem??It was his attachment to the dream of being the only heir of Kuru Kingdom. This led him to intense hatred for Pandavas in turn his Desire to destroy them knew no bounds.

But where did Duryodhan get this from?? Duryodhan was just a fruit of the tree of attachment for the throne within Dhrirtrashtra. This tree was nurtured by another desire of revenge within Shakuni.

Drona was deeply attached to his son and his desire for Revenge brought him to Dhritarashtra and due to his favours even he was blindfolded from Truth to the extent that it took the Saptarishis to stop him!!

Bhishma attached himself to the throne of Hastinapur and his Desire to protect it resulted in almost every Injustice done in Mahabharata.

Finally, Yudhisthira's attachment to gambling and his desire to win more became the final nail onto the coffin.

So if you observe all the cases here the root cause of all problems are ATTACHMENT and DESIRE.

Krishna Summarised this beautifully in the Bhagvad Gita Chapter 2

-When a man thinks of the objects, attachment to them arises; from attachment desire is born; from desire (unfullfilled) anger arises.(2.62)

-From anger comes delusion; from delusion the loss of memory; from loss of memory the destruction of discrimination( Intelligence); from the destruction of discrimination he perishes.(2.63)

Arjuna or Karna - Who was the Greatest?
by Indrajit Bandyopadhyay

The Kurukshetra War and several other wars preceding that - like the one during Draupadi's Svayamvara, during Ghosha-Yaatraa and in Viraata Parvan - decided the question in favour of Arjuna - but not without doubt. As is the mark of all great Kavis, Vyasa and later poets seem to deliberately keep ambiguity regarding the matter of greatness.

And it is this perceived "unresolved tension" that is the secret of attraction of the debate - Arjuna or Karna, who?

We can of course question the very concept of "greatness" - and we shall do that. But before that, let us note again that Vyasa introduces doubt and ambiguity in all the Arjuna-Karna duels before Kurukshetra War. We need to examine whether there is any real ambiguity or it is a matter of perception. (I will not discuss here the Kurukshetra War duel because I have already dealt with it in my article Mahabharata: The Myth of the Death of Bhisma, Drona, Karna, Duryodhana)

Contrary to popular belief, Drona's weapon-skill examination was not the first time when Karna was seeking an encounter with Arjuna. Long before that, Karna had been Drona and Krpa's disciple and he had always been jealous of Arjuna.

And we must also remember that Karna was elder to Arjuna by several years. Thus, Karna's jealousy was founded on frustration of being lesser to Arjuna. What Karna could not achieve with advantage of years, Arjuna had achieved with advantage of Gunas.

One thing we frequently forget about Mahabharatan characters is that they are "growing" or "evolving" and not "flat." Yet, when we engage our pious souls in judging them we often do a Flat Treatment.

Let us not forget that we have seen Arjuna and Karna from their birth to death. Naturally, we have "different" Arjunas and Karnas here. Would any reader accept about him/herself that he/she has remained constant and static throughout his/her life? That, what he/she has been in her teen days, he/she has remained the same in her 20s or 30s or 40s or 50s...? Would any reader in his/her ripe days like to be judged by his/her action of green days?

Surely, no reader would say that or like that. Then why the illusion of thinking Arjuna or Karna that way?

The teen-aged Arjuna who could not hide his sulk to Drona on finding that Ekalavya had excelled him, cannot certainly be the youth Arjuna piercing the target in Draupadi's Svayamvara; and he certainly cannot be the Arjuna who leaves his brothers and Draupadi during Forest Exile and go to the Himaalayas to learn Yuddha-Vidyaa and Gaandharva-Vidyaa with unmitigated attention? And certainly, this is not the same Arjuna post-Giitaa?

If Arjuna as a Kshatriya Viira is unmatched, more than that, he is unparalleled as a Human Being. There is no other character in the whole of Mahabharata (yes, Mahabharata; and I am saying this with Krishna in mind) and even in World Itihaasa-Literature who has as many Gunas (Qualities) as Arjuna.

Arjuna was a Shilpii par excellence in "Art of Living", Gender Relation (well, that involves the ever-ongoing Gender-Yuddhatoo), Yuddha-Vidyaa, and Gaandharva-Vidyaa. Other than this, his greatness as a Spiritual aadhaar is overtly evident in the fact that he was the only person capable of firsthand' listening to Giita-discourse. In this alone, Arjuna has excelled all Rshisand Munis born before or after him.

Very few people are even aware that Arjuna had his prowess in paanditya (scholarship), Raajaniiti and Kuuta-Niiti too - he is hailed as arthashaastravishaaradah (12.161.9).

Draupadi did not love him the best just because he was tall, dark, handsome and mighty. Woman might feel some attraction for tall-dark-handsome-mighty fellows (- the "gene-selection" goes through trial and error) - but no Woman ever LOVES tall-dark-handsome-mighty "dumb ass."

Draupadi's love for Arjuna was a matter of "wave-length matching" or "tuning" we may say, that operated in an all-out dimension involving Head, Heart, and Hand - and more importantly Instinct and Intuition.

Draupadi too is hailed as Arthashaastravishaaradah . This gives us a clue in understanding that Draupadi-Arjuna relation was not just about holding hands and uttering romantic nonsensical bla-bla-bla; but more about intellectual saber-rattling. Indeed we get some ideas on that in Vana Parvan and Shaanti-Parvan. (The same glue applied to Draupadi-Yudhishthira relation though on a different plane. However, in this article I am not discussing on Yudhishthira. So, I will keep mum on that here for a separate discussion.)

The Evolutionary Woman loves a man with Kaama-prowess, but no Woman ever loves a man who is Kaamavashagah(Subservient to Kaama - Lust and Sex etc.). Kiicaka, Jayadratha and Raavana - all were miserable failures to Woman because they were Kaamavashagah.

Draupadi loved Arjuna the most because of his Ahamkaara-lessness and Restraint. Such a man never ceases arousing a Woman's curiousness about him, such a man remains a man about whom the Myth never slackens, and such a man alone is capable of keeping ablaze the flame of attraction.

In a Mythical Narrative, Shiva's consort Paarvatii gives a new definition of Purusha -

"One who is prabhu yet free of Ahamkaara is called Purusha
- prabhavan yo 'nahamvaadii sa vai purusha ucyate (13.134.13c)."

Arjuna was Purusha in this sense; not just being a biological male. (As a sidelight, this indeed is the real significance and definition of Purusha - that is, Purusha is a non-gendered concept.)

Arjuna was a "womanizer" not because he ran after Woman, but because he ran after his Heart while making Woman run after him.

Arjuna's falling in love with Citraangadaa and Subhadraa are episodes that show why he was a true Man - one capable of being honest to one's Heart, and one capable of the manliness' to pursue one's Heart. (For Arjuna's dalliance with other women, particularly that found in Folk Mahabharata, I would prefer a separate discussion, because here I would focus on Classical Mahabharata only.)

Like Draupadi's skill in Performance, Arjuna too was a genius in Performance. Without being a Shilpii of higher dimension, he could not have acted with incredible finesse as Brhannalaa.

Now, those who want to argue at this point that Arjuna transformed' into Brhannalaa owing to Urvashii's curse; let God pour all blessings on them - even the quota allotted to me (if any). I will not argue with them - because I don't want to argue with Belief. To me, sex-transformation by curse' is absurd - and that's all.

To me therefore, Arjuna's role as Brhannalaa was a Performance par excellence. And he could give such Performance because in his real self he had the Masculine-Feminine Balance.

Unless a biological male is in touch with his Feminine-Self, he cannot be a Real Man. And Arjuna was that rare man who was not only in touch with his Feminine Self, but who had also realized and actualized that Self.

Just as while trying to understand Arjuna's character people often forget that he was a Pandit - an Arthashaastravishaaradah - there is similar forgetfulness that Arjuna was adept in Gaandharva-Vidyaa.

Imagine ambidextrous - Savyasaacii Arjuna - stringing and twanging his Gaandiiva with as much skill as stringing and playing the Viinaa. Imagine him dancing with all Feminine grace - imagine him evoking all the Rasas from Shrngaara to Raudra in the rhythm of his brimming muscles.

And Arjuna was a Kathaka too - a narrator of Itihaasa-Purana and stories; he used to mesmerize the women of Viraata with his verbal skills.

To such an Arjuna, Karna falls short. No, it is not Karna's drawback - how can we judge Karna in poor light against Arjuna when even Krishna falls short to Arjuna's all-round genius and multi-dimensional personality?

People who imagine Draupadi's secret love for Krishna or Karna or some other third-person singular number' certainly know something about the Ways of the World - but they certainly know nothing of the secrets of Woman's Heart - the Evolutionary Woman's Heart to be specific.

With such an Arjuna filling up Draupadi's universe, why would she seek lesser beings?

The World knew Draupadi to be a Kanyaa because she was in a polyandrous marriage, but the other Paandavas knew that Draupadi was a Sati ... amidst the physical polyandry as a social obligation, Draupadi was mentally monogamous ... ( To be Continued)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Liked the article so much.Wanted to share it since it is about Arjun's glory.

Lakshmi.
