Chapter 21
Duryodhan made Dushyasan sit up against his chest, while Karn gently cleaned his wounds. The antiseptic burned, Dushyasan cried in pain, Duryodhan rubbed his arm while Karn gently blew on his wounds. They comforted him and dressed the wounds and made him lie down. The same routine was repeated with Sahadev, he latched on to Duryodhan quite tightly,it helped with the pain. And then they moved on to Nakul. Nakul was in a semi asleep state, the Sari wrapped around his waist covering his legs, Karn needed to strip him once again to check the wounds on his legs. He thought it would be the best if he did so while Nakul was still asleep. He slowly tried to remove the saari, but suddenly Nakul waked up. Grabbing the saari with all his might he pushed Duryodhan back against a rock and kicked Karn on his chest. Karn was taked aback "Nakul" he still spoke softly "Bachcha main toh bas tere ghao dekhna chah raha thha, hum tumhe aur pira nahi pahuchayenge beta." "Aap log bhi toh Ashwathama ke saath hi thhe na pehle" Nakul shouted "Aap bhi usiki tarah hume apaman aur pira denge, isiliye aap mere vastra utaar rahe thhe..." "Nahi Nakul" Duryodhan said "Hum bas tumhara upchaar.." He couldnt complete as Nakul again hit him and kicked Karn. "Achha thhik hai" Karn said, he had enough now "Yudhishthir aur bheem ke ane ke baad wo tumharz upchar karenge. "Nakul kya kar rahe ho tum?" Arjun shouted, all of the brothers were stunned by Nakul's behaviour. "Shaant Arjun" Karn said. "Galtiyan to humne ki hai" Duryodhan said "Bhugatni toh paregi, aao tumhara to upchar kar le" he said to Arjun. Karn and Duryodhan moved on towards Arjun. Karn cleaned his wounds carefully, while Duryodhan supported his body. Arjun found it quite comforting but he was irked by Nakul's behaviour. Karn noticed this so he spoke softly so that Nakul wont hear, "Shant ho jaao Arjun. Sambhavata Nakul ne koi duswapna dekha hai isi karan usne achanak uthke mujhe uske vastra utarta dekh is prakar ashaant ho gaya. Usse thhora samay do wo swayam hi thhik ho jaayega. Thhik hai ab tu shaant ho jaa" Arjun relaxed, he believed Karn. Indeed Nakul had been dreaming, he had dreamed of himself naked and bizarre voices laughing and jeering at him,and thats why he had been so violent on waking up. But as he was left alone he slowly his mind calmed and with that came the realisation what he had done. How could he hit his elder brothers. Oh god! he didnt know how to make up for it, may be he could apologise let them decide his punishment. Meanwhile, Arjun put his head on Duryodhan's lap and closed his eyes. Karn washed his body with warm water, there were cuts under his feet, on his palm, his back his chest...all over him. Arjun now openly flinched as his wounds burned, he clutched duryodhan's outstretched hand. Karn comfortingly bandaged his wounds, while Duryodhan lulled him half asleep. After Laying him comfortably they, Karn and Duryodhan both got up to arrange a the fire. He had just walked to steps when he almost stumbled as someone had tightly hugged his left foot from behined. He looked down to find a curled Nakul at his feet, crying his, his tears washing Karn's feet. "Nakul kya kar rahe ho..." Karn tried to coax him up. "Nahi bhratshree" Nakul said "Hum anujon ka sthhan apke charnon mein hi hain, kshama kar dijiye maine ap ko... ap dono ko padaghat kiya..." Nakul looked up his hand folded , eyes red, breathing hitched with sobs... he turned towards Durodhan. "Bhratashree" Nakul said "Aap bhi kshama kar di jiye na. Dand de dijiye aap dono mujhe, dand toh milna hi chahiye mujh akinchan ko. Milna chahiye..milna chahiye" Nakul started slapping himself. "Nakul" both Karn Duryodhan were horrified, Karn knelt near Nakul and holding both his hand firmly to keep him from slapping himself "Kshama kar diya tumhe Nakul" Karn said. "Haan bete" Duryodhan said "Hume pata hai aaj jo huya uske baad tumne yeh jo kiya woh thhik na sahi par tumne soch smajhke bhi nahi kiya" Nakul was still struggling with his guilt. "Nakul" Karn said "Saiyan pe wapas chalo. Chot lagi hai aur tum iss prakar ghutno, matlab budhdhi hai ya nhi chalo abhi..." He and Duryodhan supported Nakul to the bed, and after they sat down Karn said "Nakul mujhe pata hai tumne koi diswapna dekh kar hi aisa kiya na?" Nakul nodded "Bas toh khatam ho gayi baat" Karn said "Magar dobara kabhi iss prakar karoge toh dand awashya dunga" "Nahi bhratashree" Nakul said holding both Duryodhan's and Karn's hand "Dobara nahi hoga" His voice was raked with guilt, Duryodhan ruffled his hair to comfort him. He slumped agains Karn's chest, tightly hugging him...his sobs loud and heartwrenching..."Shh chup" Karn said "bas ho gaya ab chup ho jao" Karn signalled Duryodhan to check on Nakul's wounds, while he held him in his arms. Duryodhan hesitantly removed the dhoti and cleaned Nakul's legs. Nakul did not protest this time he just buried humself in Karn's lap. Duryodhan cleaned his wounds abndaged them and Draped a pink dhoti on him. "Dekha" Duryodhan said "Hogaya. mera bachcha" "Haan" Karn said "Tum sab so jaao thhori der ke liye" "Bhook lagi hai bhratashree" Dushyasan said..."TOh hum aa gaye bhojan lekar" Yushishthir walked in with bheem. They served food, which they had brought from the village in excahnge of hard labour...Duryodhand fed Dushyasan, Bheem fed Sahadev these two were hungry so ate up quickly... while Nakul who was bieng fed by Yudhishthir and Arjun who Karn was feeding were repelled by food. They had to coax them a lot to eat...comforting and reassuring them and each time they did this, their regret increased...todays experience was horrible for them but it had brought them even closer...
