I was once a regular user, now not so much but sorry, I don't even visit sites such as Forbes which force the users to view ads so entertainment sites are of my least interest.

Many users such as myself use pc/laptop which may contain confidential information on it & or may be used from workplace & etc.. Already securing system is a big headache & to allow a site showing up ads is just inviting more unnecessary trouble ..

The first thing I was gonna do after this msg today was just close all tabs.. Since, I used to spend hours back in the day.. thought of giving it another try...

If one is going to say - ads are safe, we must be living in a "LaLa land". Just like there are sneaky publishers, there are sneaky advertisers as well. I've worked with the top publisher networks including adsense, so I'm quite sure about what I'm referring to.

Why not look for alternatives ?

Why don't IF starts accepting donations ? There are lots of sites/forums/groups accepting donations to run the site. People can donate what ever they can let it be a 100rs or 1000rs or $10 or $100 or what ever currency they use.. You could use multiple mediums to accept these donations, I don't think I need to pin them down ..

Instead of posting this msg - support our site by accepting ads (malware/spyware), simply post a msg

" Donate to I-F & Help us stay FREE or Grow or what ever you guys feel is right. "

You could probably add a tag or what ever for regular donors or large donors, which could encourage more users to donate.
Everyone's happy. When members are happy to send gifts & etc to their favorite actors/crew, I don't think donating a small amount will be a big problem at least for them.

or at least look for other alternatives...

I-F will only end up losing its members than gaining if one tries to force users into doing something that they aren't happy about ! Try to get members feedback on what they're comfortable with before forcing them onto something !

*sorry for the long read/rant*

I would never donate for I-F or any websites! Donate for what? They already get much money by getting by Members visiting the sites and by the ads which pop up always. So, why do we have to donate to sign up? Whoever agrees to donate for any website, then you have to learn more about the internet.

They already get much money by visitors, so they can shut all the ads and everyone would be pleased!

If I sounded rude, then sorry not sorry.! -.-

to each his/her own... Its the reason I wanted I-F to take an public opinion.

Donations are not mandatory, its the reason its called a donation & not a subscription.
You need to check it up closely next time around before jumping the gun.
If given a choice - are you willing to donate or compromise your system security by allowing ads, I would always choose the donation option.

If you think each & every visitor brings in cash to the site, its a dream come true for any site owner & every large site owner should've been a multi millionaire by now. With the introduction of popup blockers at first & later ad-blockers on a whole, websites tumbled big time with loss of revenue - monetizing sites isn't a child's play.

Unless, you're backed by a major firm or have an alternative source of income, advertisements are the only major source of income for any website. Why do u think sites such as Forbes have forced users to turn off adblockers ? or why did Google, Facebook & other major firms had to unite to come up with new plans for reviving the advertising industry ?

Just tell me, if you have adblocker activated, how will the site gain revenue from ads ? The popups you're referring to, have no scope of opening up. JFYI, while I'm composing this msg. my adblocker says it has blocked 7 Ads just on this page alone. Other than feeling sympathy for the I-F owners, I can't help any further by compromising my laptop security by allowing ads on it. On a personal note, 7 ads on a page is outrageous by any standards in my experience !

I've been working with the industry (front & back-end) for nearly 15 years now, so I'm pretty sure about what I'm referring to & I'm not the one who has to learn what or how internet works. In fact, I've worked with sites which used to accept donations from members to stay free, in-return they gave the donors ad-free experience on the site, thanking their generosity.

Working with IF from an workplace is nearly impossible for most of the users now, I know at least 3-4 of my friends who've stopped visiting I-F ever since the adblocker restriction has been put in place, people are not gonna risk their jobs for having a few mins time off on an entertainment portal. The 15 second wait for opening up every single page is ridiculous, that's again my opinion.

agree as long as donations are kept optional and no annoying popup comes for that
