CULTURES:

The tale of our dear Dev and Sonakshi is a classic example of The Two states. Since we all know, Sonakshi Bose is a Bengali and Dev Dixit is a Brahmin Hindu from Uttar Pradesh.😃
Such is the cultural collaboration, that where does the Bengali love starts and begins mixing with the U.P. love; no one knows. Because there simply is no other place of love but the lovers' hearts.😃❤️

So, the families with mutual consent have come up with a mixed tradition wedding. Following Pre-wedding functions like of the North Indian traditions and the main wedding like of the Bengali traditions.

Let's have a look at the Wedding functions that may take place at both the ends:😃

Let's first see, what happens at the Uttar Pradesh wali North Indian Wedding.😃

A few days before the wedding day, parents of the bride bring a Thal of Shagun to their home. The bride is given Chunari of red colour and bangles. She wears the same on the wedding day.

Haldi or Turmeric is applied to both the bride and groom to enhance their complexion and beauty.

This is followed by the Sangeet where women sing wedding songs and dance on their tunes.

One or two days before the marriage, the henna is applied on hands and feet of the bride.
Wedding Rituals
On the wedding day the groom takes the marriage procession to the house of bride. He rides on the Ghodi (She-Horse) and leads the barat (marriage procession). At marriage venue he is received and welcomed by the relatives of the bride. This ritual is known as Milni.

When the barat reaches the house of the bride, Varmala ceremony is performed on a stage specially made for the purpose and bride and groom exchange the garlands.
In the mandap, rituals of kanyadan, phera etc are performed. After the ritual of Saptapadi, the groom and wife become the husband and wife.
Since the marriages in UP are held in winter season and in night, the feast is an important part ofmarriage. The feast consists mainly of heavy and delicious vegetarian food like Kheer, Gajar Ka Halwa, Shahi Paneer, Golgappey, Laccha Parantha, Jalebi and many more dishes.
Post Wedding Rituals
After the wedding is completed, the barat (on the next morning) returns with the bride. The departure of the bride from her home is known as the ritual of Vidai. It is very emotional moment as the bride after birth spends her many years of life and after marriage she has to leave that home permanently.
When the new husband-wife reaches the home of the husband, they are welcomed. The newly-wed wife is not allowed to place her bare feet in the ground. The couple is taken to home-deity where they perform the worship.
After four days of marriage the newly-wed wife is taken to her parental home and she returns to her matrimonial home after 2-3 days and live there permanently.

Some of these rituals may happen according to this by the Dixits. While the main wedding shall happen with the Bengali Rituals.
Let's have a look around, how is a Bengali Wedding done.

Pre-Wedding Rituals

Ashirbaad - On an auspicious day the elders of the groom's side go to bless the bride and vice versa, by sprinkling husked rice and trefoil on their heads and giving them gold ornaments. It is a kind of acceptance of the boy and the girl on both sides.

Gaye Holud - A ceremony in which five or seven married women of the household grind turmeric with mortar and pestle and anoint the bride with turmeric paste. This brightens up the bride's complexion and makes her skin glow. Gaye Holud is also celebrated on groom's side.

Dodhi Mongol - At dawn on the day of marriage seven married ladies adorn the bride's hands with the traditional bangles Shakha and Paula - one pair of red and one pair of white bangles, and feed her a meal of curd and rice, nowadays other dishes as well, the only meal after which the bride and her parents fast the whole day.

Main wedding rituals

Mala Badal- the ceremony when bride and the groom exchange garlands with each other.

Bor Jatri - The members of the groom's house as well as his friends dress in their best attire and journey to the bride's house where the wedding takes place.

Bor Boron - When the bor jatri reaches the bride's place, usually the mother of the bride along with other members come out to welcome the groom and his family by showing the holy earthen lamp, sprinkling trefoil, and husked rice placed on a bamboo winnow (kula). Then they are served sweets and drinks.

Potto Bastra - After the groom is seated at the chadnatolla (wedding altar and canopy) - the sanctum sanctorum where only the groom, bride and the priest takes their place, the groom is offered new clothes by the person who is to do the sampradaan - the elderly male member of the family who does sampradan offers the responsibility of the girl to the groom

Saat Paak - The bride, usually seated on a low wooden stool called pidi is lifted by her brothers and is taken round the groom in seven complete circles. The significance is they are winded up securely to each other.

Subho Dristi - After saat paak the bride and the groom are made to look at each other in front of all the assembled invitees. The bride is told to remove the paan leaves. This exchange of loving glance is to initiate them to be together officially by the society.

Mala Badal - After the circles are completed, still sitting high on the piri, the bride and the groom exchange garlands of fragrant flowers thrice. This is the first step in which they accept each other.

Sampradan - The bride then takes her place at the chadnatolla where an elderly male member of the bride's family hands her over to the groom and the couple's hands are bound by the sacred thread amidst recital of Vedic chants and are placed on the mangal ghot - a brass pitcher filled with water that is covered with mango leaves attached to one twig and a green coconut placed on it.

Yagna - The bride and groom sit in front of the sacred fire and chant mantras after the priest. Agni, the fire god is made the divine witness to the marriage. See Vedic marriage.

Saptapadi - Seven circular rounds are taken by the couple around the fire thereby solemnizing the occasion.

Anjali - An offering to the fire is made. The bride's brother puts puffed rice (khoi) in the hands of the bride, and the groom standing close to her holds her hands from the back and extends their arms forward. They then pour the offering into the fire together.

Sindoor Daan and Ghomta - Once again seated at their respective places in chadnatolla the groom applies sindoor or vermilion (a symbol of marriage worn by Hindu women thereafter) on the bride's hair-parting. The bride then covers her head with a new sari offered by the groom as ghomta or veil.

Post-Wedding Rituals

A ceremony welcoming the newly wed bride to her new home, with the feet dipped in a mixture of milk and alta.

Bidaay - This is a farewell - mixed moment of joy and sorrow as the bride is bid adieu with blessings of her parents and relatives to start a new life with her beau.

Kaal Ratri - After the couple reaches the groom's house and the initial welcome ceremony is over they are separated for the night, probably to get a refreshing sleep and prepare for the next day's final wedding ceremony.

Bou Bhaat & Bodhu Boron - The girl cooks and serves all the members of her husband's family. A banquet is held to treat the guests who lavish gifts on the new bride.

Phool Shojja - The couple and their bed are adorned with flowers and are left together in their room to enjoy conjugal bliss.

Here on, posts will be posted as per ceremonies are going to be telecasted in the show.
I don't want to disturb their order.
That is why not making any posts about ceremonies since it's not yet clear that if they will have haldi and Mehendi as well or not.

It is a very genuine request for you all to contribute pictures of the ceremonies when they are telecasted on the show, to be included here in these posts.😃

Thanks and love😃

I dont want to sound negative but I am not 100% sure that DevAkshi wedding will happen especially since there's so much hype & everything is happening so fast. All those promises again between Dev & Sona makes me think that some HUGE twist is waiting for us which will pause wedding at least for now.
Let's keep fingers crossed but I am not having good feeling about this whole wedding track so soon.
