All those who saw Premam, what are your views on George and Malar's love story?
I felt that George never really moved on from Malar, even though he knew that she got married and had completely forgotten him. The last scene for me indicated that while he did eventually find someone whom he liked enough to marry in Celine, Malar would always be the love of his life.
He is embarrassed when Celine teases him about Mary and he doesn't want to recollect that phase of his life. But the moment when he sees another shadow from his past in Malar at his Wedding reception, his heart seems to have missed a beat! Even Malar seems to understand that he still holds a candle for her and hence hides the fact of her memory coming back from him, so as not to put him in any sort of quandary.
How wonderful was Nivin Pauly in that scene, the way his eyes convey shock, regret, nostalgia and yearning for the girl who got away.
But having said that, I think it was a brilliant move on the director's part to have cut short George and Malar's story on a tragic note. That is probably what immortalised it for the audience.
I can't understand Malayalam hence I saw the entire movie with subtitles on the recommendation of a friend. Undoubtedly, a cinematic masterpiece! Waiting for the day when Bollywood can make a film as simple yet eloquent like this!
