Here is a special post that takes one down memory lane. It brings alive snippets from colonial-era newspapers that covered the visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales to Fatehpur Sikri in 1905-06.

@Devki,
Thanks for the link. No problem at all in sharing twice. BTW, You would be glad to know that approx. 4 CRORES of history documents of the Maratha Peshwas and Maratha rulers are going to be put out soon, in Pune (located at the Bund Garden Road) . :D (!! Yes you read right -> 4 Crores = 4,00,00,000 ; and this is by most conservative estimates, otherwise estimated at around 5 crores by Marathi scholars.) This was much discussed in history circles recently. Some documents are in "Modi Lipi" ( an ancient cursive Marathi script), Gujarati too. We can't even imagine the wealth of information which is going to be added to our memory, slowly, as scholars will take time in reading and bringing out books based on newly acquired information.
@Bea
Glad to see your comment here. :) Since the show has ended long back, i thought there would be no one interested in JA / related stuff anymore. Though, that seems not to be the case. Have few important posts to be made, to share some really really fascinating tidbits which i never knew till last year!. The show is no more on air but the interest continues. :)
Ending this post by sharing something interesting below. First is about Mariam-Uz-Zamani and second is about Akbar --
-- This is from Akbarnama. Depicts birth of Prince Salim. This is different and is not present among the few Akbarnama pictures on Internet. Got it from a collection in the National Archives few days back, after spending lot of hours there. Though, wanted something else, but ended up getting this picture. It is a very big picture, posting only a very small - cropped - zoomed part here. Pardon the bad quality.
Birth of Jahangir. And his mother Heera Kunwari / Harka / Mariam Uz Zamani being attended by her maids who are Hindu as well as Muslims(i think).
See the lady on right side on top. She's clearly a Hindu. See the saffron veil on forehead / / / Also note the maang tika / And the bangles / Just wondering who she can be. The painter has depicted her very carefully. She is well dressed. Not a maid it seems.
The maid on right side below, has brought a pitcher like thing near the baby. She's also shown in native Hindustani dressing. One hand of another lady can be seen coming from the right side below. That is hand of a astrologer who is cropped from this picture.
Only the lady shown on top left has different features and dressing. Appears to be Hamida Bano Begum to me. As she has the royal look. The feather like thing on her crown shows she is from the royal family. Exactly same lady with similar royal description is shown in the Birth of Salim portrait sitting near MUZ, in Jahangir's Album.
The 2 ladies on top need to be identified exactly, if possible.
-- The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is round the corner. Following is a page from the celebrated work - Harivansha (the lineage of Shri Hari Vishnu) of Akbar. He got it translated into Persian. This is Lord Ganesha's picture from that. Shared by a friend. In turn, sharing here.
Wishing all the very best for Ganesh-utsav. Enjoy the celebrations.
