For me

1.Gulzar

2.Basu

3.Hrishikesh

All three are amazing directors but some of Gulzar movies are my fav and classics.

Most of the movies of these directors are good.

Hrishikesh ke jitne movies dekhe unmese Alap ko chodkar baki sab ache lage.

Gulzar ke Meera movie boring lagi thoda.uske alawa all other movies are excellent.

Basu Chatterjee ke jitne bhi movies dekhe sab ache hi hain.Basu-Amol Palekar jodi kaamaal tha.

Legends.

Movies made by them are such Gems that current movies seem so Blah and Hollow.

Difficult. Though all seem to tell story of a common man, their stories are not the same. Gulzar's movies generally have the background of extreme or rare situations (sometimes political backdrop). Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh's movies (except Anand and Guddi where they were dying) have normal situations as the backdrop. Over Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee, I choose Basu's movie. Along with entertainment, they subtlety leave a message at the end which is so apt in our real life.
