Chapter 10
Whilst she was away from the room and Arnav obviously was too nani must have had the staff decorate their room. It was stubble but still notable. A scatter of pink petals on the bed and fairy lights out by the poolside. Although she loved the lights out there the petals were a little, er a little typical. Her life was far from a bollywood film as she once foolishly thought it could be. As she looked around the room to figure what the easiest way was to get rid of them she chose one of ASR's bits of paperwork to collect the petals onto, it took a little time but once she had done it was certainly an improvement. Balancing them on that piece of paper whilst trying to walk out into the poolside was no easy task yet she managed it. It was nice out on the poolside under the fairly lights Khushi decided the water in the pool would be nice place to dispose of the petals. She tipped them in and watched the spread within the water. There was something pretty about them, the colour reminded of her of very distinct outfit she once owned. Her bridal wear on their first marriage.
...
It was fuchsia pink and it looked beautiful against her milky skintone so friends and family told her. She herself wasn't too sure, she had thought about it many times and even know so that their wedding was over she thought about it again. It was a colour she wouldn't forget.
What was she supposed to do now that the women had seen her to their room for the night. She'd heard silly laughter and chuckling and that did not help her nerves one bit.
She walked into the room, the bed was decorated like one would expect but Khushi wasn't going to lie to herself every girl pictured herself as the bride in a room like this at some point or another in her life it was just strange when it became reality.
She walked around the room a little to have a look the only thing is that she had guessed ASR wasn't the typical husband he wasn't going to expect her to sit in waiting for him and so on. He was a man whom seemed to look beyond so called tradition and rightly so why should one feel compelled to fit in a mould?
Hearing unmistakably what was his voice from beyond the French doors Khushi walks out into the poolside a little unsure. The back of his posture was the only think she could really see on that outdoor chair.
She walked up to him with her weight of her bridal wear and thought for a second before placing the palm of her hand on his shoulder to get his attention. He had stopped his conversation for her and turned to her with the most ease.
"Make yourself at home.. Its been a long day. your probably tired. . I know I am
I got us some food .." he said looking at the spread before him at the poolside they hadn't eaten properly all day with all those people staring at them and making a fuss.
She was just surprised at the ease of that's why she was so quiet.
"I hope that's okay with you ..?"
It took her a moment to phase back in it was perfect, he was perfect but she could express herself at that time of course.
"I think that"- looking into their room he speaks "can wait right until we get to know one another a little better."
She couldn't have agreed more a little mesmerized by him already.
...
She fluffed the pillows and made the bed, it was still ever so strange this room, this surrounding but it felt like home even so. She felt at home.
"Do you mind? .." She heard him say his implications towards his side of the bed whilst removing his watch, loosening his attire a little.
"Aap hein ka kamra hai." (Your room..) she replied, given they had remarried after 2 years apart but they weren't complete strangers.
He went about his routine as did she.
"Are you going to tell me what the rest of your conditions are then.." he shouted a little from in the washroom getting the feeling that she was thinking them up as she went along that's because she was.
"Aap kal office nahin jayeyenge," ("You wont work tomorrow ..")
--"Okay" He answered a little surprised - that wasn't a big deal but then the list got longer, they weren't unreasonable demands just little things that were doable by all means and she was totally making them up as she was going along but that was also good. What she spoke of gave him quite an understanding into how she felt about this marriage.
"Aap har shaam ghar aa kar khana khayenge hamare saath." (You'll come home for dinner when you can, no late nights.)
"Sanivar hamare saath bitayeyge" ("Spend Saturdays with me..")
"Sundays you can do as you please.."
"Ham chahte hai ham raat ko behet kar batein kare"("I want us to talk in the evenings.. about our day")
"No Bluetooth whilst at home, no calls to Aman..!!"
Hp aur baki ke naukar ko aap nahin datenge ("You'll be less mean to hp")
Din mein doh baar aap nahin ko office se phone karenge (Check on nani a few times a day she is happier when you call from the office.)
"Aur Agar ho sake toh hamare liyey toda pyaar batcha kar rakhlijeyga (And if its at all possible try to love me a little. )
Did she say that last one out aloud. Yes she had said his eyes when he walked back into the room but he didn't want to embarrass her or make her feel uncomfortable so he just moved on.
"Anything else?" he said in a relaxed tone and she couldn't think of anything else for now so that was it for the time being.
...
When she lay beside him that night what was going on in her mind only she could understand, he was the one he had always been the one but she had so much invested in this. Her heart her soul her mind her everything she had put into this because of this undying feeling of love towards him. She knew why she was in this and what for she wanted another chance at being his and another chance at being loved by him but he wasn't in love with her not now surely if he had ever been then why.
"Aap ne yey sab ek baar phir nani ke liyey kiya hai.. ?
Ya phir is liyey kyun Lavanaya -"
She stopped there talking about his former love was not what their new relationship deserved.
He turned towards her despite the gaping distance between both of them and he looked her in the eyes whilst he answered her question. Hoping if it made no sense that his eyes would be sufficient if anything.
"Neither ..
That night nani was in the hospital the only person I could picture was you, the only person I could think of, the only person that I felt I needed more than anything was you.
I can't claim to understand love the way you do ...or be in love the way you are I can only say that you are the only person who occupies my mind when I am at my worst and I think that is a pretty good start don't you."
What Khushi saw In his eyes was something genuine, something deep something told her that this could either go one of two ways. Either it would be a disaster or it would be the total opposite and they could have a relationship beyond anything they had formally had but it was a chance she had to take because she loved him regardless.
...
Re entering Raizada house as Mrs Raizada was like reliving her past only with a little bit of a twist. She was the twist but only for Arnav mind you for the rest Khushi was still Khushi.
At the breakfast table they were the next morning when Hariprakash looked for Khushi. "Khushi bhabhi!" He said as she approached her laying the breakfast table Khushi could see that Hp bit his tongue unsure if bhabi was still off bounds.
She smiled. "Aap hame ab bhabhi bulakte hai Hariprakashji." (its okay you can call me Khushi bhabhi again now Hp.)
The smiles were heart warming for a moment but then it was back to work.
Was breakfast going to be continental or Indian hp asked, Khushi's response was both. " Kya pata aap ke sahab ka mann kab badal jayey". (Both you never know when he'll change his mind.)
Poor Hp might have been too gullible to have caught on but Arnav wasn't.
Did she just throw him an insult? he thought as he walked past heading off for his morning run and yet sweet as pie she seemed when she saw him on his arrival.
Her "Ji, good morning" he accepted a little confused but aware not the less however he accepted that she was entitled to her digs at him and went about his way.
...
Khushi remained at breakfast table, she cut fruit and prepared other little trimmings for breakfast when Nani approached in her wheelchair.
Good morning bitya.. she wished khushi in her grandmotherly way and Khushi in return asked for her blessings.
There was a renewed happiness in nani now that Khushi and Arnav were remarried it was clear to see on her face but as ever nani was observant and wise as well as very tactful in her ways ever the match maker there seemed to be some silent conversation being made at the table between nani and Hp who was supposed to be going about his job.
Nani seemed to want to know when it was that Khushi had Arnav had woken up this morning and Hp was pointing out the hour with the use of his hands.
Khushi wasn't oblivious to what was going on and what the conversation was in aid of. Yes both of them had woken up early and that implied that nothing happened between the two of them last night, it was just Nani and that cupid side of hers. Khushi left the dinning table on that note ignoring the grandmother and her accomplice although there intentions were good ones Khushi did not want to get into all that.
Go about her way she did breakfast was nearly ready in the kitchen when Hp tapped Khushi on the shoulder for a moment assuming it would just be something normal Khushi doesn't turn not until she realizes that Hp in fact had something important he needed to talk about.
Hari Prakash had always been a fan of Khushi's where he was scared of Arnav Khushi bhabhi which he could now call her again was always on his side.
In confidence and with ease could Hp talk to Khushi and he did when he spoke about needing a little extra pay this month. Khushi suggested that Hp talk to his Sahab but the truth was that Hari prakash was embarrassed for he had already asked for an advance earlier this month.
Being compassionate of others circumstances was one of Khushi's greatest qualities
understanding the predicament he was in Khushi looks through her own purse for cash to find she had very little of her own money if any to be able to help someone else.
She would help him because that's what she did, she just didn't know quiet how to. When Hp insisted that he was ashamed for asking another advance she had to respect that too. All the way through breakfast did Khushi think about it.
...
He wasn't working today because Khushi had demanded he should not and so he spent a little time in front of the newspaper in the lounge when he was approached by Khushi. He hadnt asked for anything and so he was surprised by the sudden dish she handed him. A sugar free desert because it was a custom for the bride to make something sweet on her first day. As odd as it was he accepted, he tasted a little bit of it, it was good. He complimented it and then watched Khushi duck to his chair a little. Atcha bana hai.?
Yes its good he said..
"Toh neg dijyey..." ("my reward") she said straight away
Nani dekh rahin hai.. ("Nani's watching")she added with a smile because the grandmother was watching from a distance . why did he think there was something strange about this..
"Don't you have to touch my feet for that he commented." That's where he went wrong. She gave him the scariest look he had ever seen from her.
"Kyun aap ka pyaar hamare isaat ka motaaj hai kya..!" (whats that supposed to mean!)
"No nothing" - he took it back and took out his wallet and watched her walk away.
He'd ask her what this was all about later on in the evening but for now he was amused by this new side of Khushi he had never seen.
...
Khushi returned to the kitchen with the money Hp had requested asking him to keep the uttermost discretion which he was thankful for.
Hariprakash's matter was solved however it certainly brought to light the burdening responsibility Khushi still carried in regards to her babuji and his finances and now she no longer worked she was back to square one.
