TV's favourite bahu Prachi Desai wins Jhalak Dikhla Jaa
Mumbai: Prachi Desai, the youngest and most popular daughter-in-law of the small screen, won Sony Television's reality dance contest Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 2 on Saturday.
Prachi and her choreographer Deepak won the trophy and prize money of Rs 5 million after a tough contest, beating finalists Sandhya Mridul and Jay Bhanushali, in the grand finale.
Actors Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, the special guests, gave away the trophies. Both stars, who will be seen together in romantic comedy Welcome, upped the glam quotient during the mega event.
Although the three judges gave their votes to Sandhya, the public declared Prachi as the winner.
Earlier voted out of the show, Prachi managed to gain entry into the competition by a wild card call and wowed the judges and the audiences with her powerful performances.
Prachi, popularly known as the sari-clad bahu of Kkasam Se, surprised the entire nation with her dancing skills and became the favourite of the judges too.
Not only that, Ekta Kapoor, a tough taskmaster, granted her just four days' break from Kkasam Se to prepare for the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa finals. Ekta however, refused the same kindness to Jay, who plays the main lead in her serial Kayamath.
The reality show is known for last-minute dramatic changes in the verdict.
Last year, television actor Shweta Salve was the favourite of the judges and viewers alike, but it actor Mona Singh walked away with the first prize.
Another last-minute change was witnessed when Shweta was selected as the female anchor, but it was Mona who showed up with Rohit Roy on the second season of the show.
While Mona is still looking for her big break in Bollywood, Prachi has already got a plum role. She has been signed opposite director Farhan Akhtar's debut film as an actor Rock On.
