PROLOGUE
Kartik paced the room, unable to understand what was going on - he wasn't talking about the room downstairs, that he knew - a conversation he had just been privy to unfortunately - a friend of Rajshri aunty wanted to see Naira for her grandson, and they were about to meet tomorrow.
He was talking about his head - it felt like it would explode any minute now. There were so many emotions, so many feelings that ran rampant. Disappointment, anxiety, confusion, but most of all anger - how could Naira be anybody else's. Yes, logically speaking, they were just about to meet, but then, the thought of any other man meeting Naira as a potential mate triggered exemplary anger in him - at himself.
He had been in love with Naira for ages, and he hadn't told her - of all the chances, of all the circumstances, he hadn't found the heart or the courage to tell her.
"#@$%" muttering an expletive he kicked the carpet, " ab Kya Karun?" He asked, looking up, questioning God, stupidly expecting a reply from above.
" Go to Naira"
Gulping, he whirled around to find Rajshri aunty at his door, had she seen it all? His sadness, his anger?
She smiled at him as he entered his room, " ab beta kaha, toh I can ask you do something right, beta?" At his confusion she continued, " my friend Radha - her grandson Dhruv is a lovely boy. We want to see if something might click between Naira and him"
Kartik closed his eyes and bit his lip, oblivious to his state, she continued, " they have agreed to come here tomorrow. Can you please go to Naira now, and find out if she is ready for marriage - what kind of a partner does she want? You are friends, right - she might tell you things she won't tell us"
What was he supposed to say - he certainly didn't want to go and ask Naira if she was ready to marry Dhruv. Unwantedly, a not so pretty picture of Naira as someone's bride flashed in front of his eyes and he curled his fists. No he didn't want to know - but there was something else he wanted to know, " yes, aunty aur aap please please mat bolna"
She smiled, blessed him and left - oblivious to the turmoil inside him and he was sure it showed in his face too.
Either that, or she chose to ignore it.
Maybe all the woman in his life did, he thought icily - immediately thinking of Naira.
Naira. " not anymore, Naira. Not anymore"
