NEW DELHI: Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt's bronze medal from the London Olympics being upgraded to silver after Besik Kudukhov of Russia, who had originally won the silver medal in 2012, was found positive for dope test came as good news for India and the Sonipat-born grappler. The news was confirmed by Yogeshwar via twitter+ two days back, but on Wednesday, the 33-year-old tweeted that he wants the medal to be with Kudukhov's family.

After winning the medal in London, Kudukhov, a four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist, had died in a car crash in 2013 in southern Russia. Kudukhov's samples from those games were retested and were found positive for a banned substance. Subsequently, the decision to strip him off his medal was taken, which meant Yogeshwar's bronze in men's 60kg freestyle category would have been upgraded to silver.

However, Yogeshwar, via twitter stated that he would like to see Kudukhov's family keep the medal as it would be respectful for them. He went on to say that human compassion is paramount for him.

This guy is such a Legend. He legit grooms many young wrestlers and keeps a low profile. Hasn't been a good year with lot of fitness issues and injuries and considering all that qualifying for him was huge. But this gesture is such a lovely one. Humble and an inspiring. 👏

And this guy was cursed and abused for stating truth 😒 hope he turns into another dronacharya like gopichand for young wrestlers. (It was failure of getting a medal in Olympics which turned Gopi into a coach!)

What an amazing human being. Has empathy for the dead and their families. And this guy was ridiculed by Salman Khan and family.

this is what I found..
Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan will have his 2008 gold medal stripped, while the late Besik Kudukhov of Russia will lose his silver medal from the London Games. This is a result of the samples from those games being retested and the samples testing positive for a banned substance. Although the names have not yet been released, an undisclosed number of wrestlers from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Ukraine will have their medals taken from both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics
