It is important to watch the earlier episodes otherwise you wouldn't really feel connected. And it is one show that you'll need to watch from the first epi.
If you don't want to watch the entire episode. Then atleast watch each and every DevAkshi scenes. And yeah also dev-ishwari or Sona-Ish and baaki Bose family scenes bhi you'll enjoy and you would not want to skip them.
You may skip scenes of RR (radha rani) dev's mami.
And to answer your doubt Ishwari doesn't really has a problem with Sona being the girl Dev loves. Ishwari very well knows thay Sonakshi is a very very nice girl. You'll see that if you watch the earlier episodes. There was a time Ish used to consider Sona as a family member.
But the problem lies with Ishwari's insecurities. Her insecurities have reached to another level altogether. She wants her son only for herself. She can't stand a woman who can be equally important to Dev. That is where things got complicated. She tried to be happy for her son but failed miserably and ended up being rude and cold to Sonakshi.
She was never really a "villain-villain". But how things shaped up, what she is doing may look very wrong. Even she doesn't know that she is doing this bad to her own son.
