Celebrities Promoting Another Movie

I've always wondered this - do celebrities promote someone else's movie on their own accord? For instance, we've seen so many people do the Prem Ratan Dhan Payo dance - that was a clever marketing strategy, Hrithik's daredevil strategy for the movie Bang Bang when Ranveer went to Linking road and started dancing in public... there were a couple of other stuff too...

And this time round for Rustom, a lot of them posted countdown videos etc... I'm just wondering do they do it out of their own accord, out of immense love for the star in the film etc or do they are charge money for it as it was part of the promotional tactic or did Akshay call them up personally to do a countdown for his film, so they did it for good will/free?

On the other hand, there's not much buzz around Mohenjo Daro ... did Hrithik realise that Akshay has already approached celebs for a countdown strategy so he decided not to do something similar?

What are your thoughts?

There was an article that Akshay approached the celebrities. For the Bang Bang dare also HR 'approached' them publicly. No one will to say no to a public dare especially something which is easy. For PRDP also it was all of Sonam's and Salman's friends in the film industry and media who were promoting it so obviously they were asked too. I dont think celebrities charge anything but very few will do it out of their own accord most of the time.
