Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh became father when his wife Geeta Basra gave birth to a baby girl yesterday at a hospital in London. Reports of the actress giving birth to a child have been confirmed by the cricketer's mother to the media. Bhajji had already flown off to the British capital earlier to be by Geeta's side.
News of Geeta's pregnancy did the rounds in April when she was spotted in baggy clothes during the opening ceremony of Indian Premier League 9 (IPL 9). The mommy-to-be had a lavish baby shower in June. It was here that Geeta flaunted her baby bump for the first time.
Close on the heels of Geeta's pregnancy news, the cricketer had expressed his excitement about impending fatherhood. In an interview, the cricketer had even revealed how he attended pre-natal classes with Geeta. He had said, "I've always been a responsible man when it comes to family. And with the baby, it that would only grow. It's a new chapter, I'm looking forward to it. I've attended a few (pre-natal) classes where they tell you what to expect and help you prepare for your role as parents." Bhajji had also revealed how Geeta and he had even gone shopping to Harrods for their first baby.
Harbhajan and Geeta tied the knot October 29 last year after a courtship of several years (Meet Mr and Mrs Harbhajan Singh,Oct 29). The wedding took place at the cricketer's hometown, Jalandhar.
