The K-pop world's in a mess

Stuff keep happening in the k-pop world all the time, but with all the splits, scandals and cases, this year seems especially bad.

The girl groups went through a lot of splits. Both Miss A and 2Ne1 had one of their members leave. KARA disbanded. 4Minute also disbanded. It's like the girl groups have been hit by some curse.

Among the boy groups, one member left B2ST.

All of this is really sad for the fans, but they're not nearly as bad as what happened with the male idols. It's one thing for groups to split or artists to be involved in some scandals, but it's a different matter altogether if some idols turn out to be criminals/possible criminals.

Kangin's DUI hit and run.

Yoochun's sexual assault cases. I don't even know what to say anymore.

Yonghwa's stock manipulation case. He was called for questioning and if found guilty, he can face up to 10 years imprisonment or fined three times the amount. Another CNBLUE member is being investigated for the same.

EDIT: Ok so, it was Jonghyun and not Yonghwa who was involved in insider trading. He was fined 20 million won.

It's only the first half of the year. I wonder what more is to come.

My knowledge in Kpop is very bad but pop music groups in general has gone through similar setbacks in late 90's. That's why international music industry has more solo artists at present and very minimum boy/girl bands. Apart from One Direction and Fifth Harmony there aren't any significant singing/dancing boy/girl groups in the West. So similar situation might happen in Kpop as well going by the trends

Not sure if Kpop will go through a major change anytime soon...as there are still a lot of existing groups. It just that this year has been particularly bad...as some very established groups broke up in a short span of time...an d so many idols got into controversies. It's not just Kpop though, K-ent as a whole has been into a lot of controversies lately.

I am following K-world since last 6-7 months only and started listening to DBSK/JYJ, SHINee and EXO only 3-4 months back...
i'm not following any other band at the moment.. so I don't know what's happening in those groups... but JYJ's exit from DBSK, Kris, Tao and LuHan exit from EXO is still shocking for me.. these groups are brilliant and together they have composed so many wonderful songs..

once you leave a well established company (and yes! i'm talking about SM only).. then even if you have talent, caliber, fan following.. it takes years to gain that position again.. and you need to start everything from 0..what happened with JYJ.. every kpop idol knows.. still they take such steps... still they are leaving their groups.. so, something really sh***y must be happening inside..

and whatever is going on with YC's case.. I don't even want to comment on that.. if it was true then he should be punished like anybody else.. and equally.. it makes me so much annoyed and disgust me when people use their stardom or power to hide their crime.. he is not supposed to ask his fandom to support him in such case.. worst thing would be if it was true and JJ and Xiah also support him...

and if it was a false accusation.. then a woman like her are contributing to make women's condition worse... real victims can't get justice because of such people...

JJ will be back from military by the end of this year.. we could have expected a combined album from JYJ.. but i think YC's case will have a big impact on whole group...

The kpop industry is seriouslymessed up. The way most of these agencies function is pretty scary. There is a lot of corruption and exploitation of artists...and there is so much talk of slave contracts, sponsorship and even mob links. I was also surprised to find about EXO. Another artist No Min Woo ( he was the second lead in My GF is a Gumiho) filed a similar lawsuit against SM too.

As for TVXQ, Mirotic was the first kpop song I listened to back in 2011 ( got into kdramas much later) and for me it's the best kpop song till date. So basically it was TVXQ/JYJ that introduced me to K-ent. I think I watched and read every single interviews/clips/varieties I could find...watched all their dramas too.

The way things turned out makes me angry and sad.

I was looking forward to their comeback album too.

I can't help but wonder what JJ and Xiah think...although, it's impossible to know.

same here.. I also landed up in kpop world with Mirotic.. and it will remain my all time fvt song from kpop.. i watched so many variety shows, web dramas and random clips of TVXQ group.. I was more hurt with YC's case because I was emotionally attached with JYJ.. esp JaeJoong..

and yes! we didn't hear anything from Xiah's side.. and by the time JJ will be back this matter will be closed.. anyways, i really don't want to comment on this issue because it really left me speechless...

and yeah! I read about No Min Woo when I watched that drama.. he is a wonderful singer.. and I think the bigger SM is the more corrupt it is..

you already know.. they recruit 12-13 years old kids.. train them and make contracts.. and I mean seriously 13 to 16 yrs of contract is indeed a big deal man...
and at that age.. these kids have no idea about anything.. right??
what matters is that they are getting a chance to perform.. make groups and soon become a star..

these companies provide platforms to this kids and future stars but takes a lot more that... when I read about JYJ.. I was so sad.. and it was really heart wrenching to know that they actually had no money if they lose the case..
I mean they are the one who are singing.. people like their voice and praise their talent.. but still they don't have anything left with them..

you know the worst part... that these members need to pretend that everything is okay.. as if they never had anything to do with the members who left... Sehun and Lu Han, Kai and Tao were such a good friends.. and now.. 😭

I wonder what YunHo will do once his contract with SM will be over.. I so much want him to leave the company and join JJ.. 😭... it makes my heart bleed whenever I listen to the song 'W'... 😭😭

SM gets away with a lot for being one of the biggest agencies. EXO is a great group and I really like some of their music.

I love all those silly dramas TVXQ did...watched them many times...and like many other cassies...I really hoped the impossible would happen and we'd see all five of them together on the same stage someday. I wish they stayed intact, but at the same time...I was happy JYJ stood up against SM. I was so happy to see JJ and Yunho together in that army event.

But you know, with PYCs case, the whole thing is kinda tainted now. I wonder if JJ and Xiah would perform as a group again...or they will just focus on individual activities. If YCs guilty, he really needs to get punished like any other criminal...and I hope he doesn't get away for having money and power. But if he does turn out to be innocent smh, his reputation is still done for. He still went to room salons...and that too during his mandatory service...and did some questionable things which are out in the open.

I think Xiah was hounded by journos a few days back...he didn't comment.
