"Jeevika..." Viren kept saying his wife's name as he walked from one room of the Vadhera house to the other.
There she was...sleeping, quite effortlessly and beautifully. And right besides her lay their daughter fully awake. Viren walked further close to the bed to pick up Gia who seemed to be excited at seeing her father enter the room. He kept a finger on his mouth as he paced his way closer to the two before taking Gia into his arms.
"I forgot its past your bedtime and here your mom is asleep while you're not" Viren whispered to Gia as he took a seat in the rocking chair besides the bed. Gia got comfortable in her dad's lap and started playing around with his tie. As happy and excited Viren was to see his daughter after a daunting day at court, he knew she had to be put to bed. Gia eventually moved to lay on her dad's chest as he hummed her favorite lullaby to put her to sleep. He knew this formula always worked when putting Gia to sleep. Within fifteen minutes, Gia was sound asleep and Viren placed her next to Jeevika. He this time carried his wife up in his arms taking her across the hallway into their own bedroom. As he lay her down, her hair fell over her face and Viren sat down simply observing. Jeevika's signature smell was radiating and later a small smile creeped up on her face. She opened her eyes for a second, but reopened them when she realized Viren was staring down at her.
"Virenji" Jeevika said as she tried sitting up against her bed.
"How was that power nap?" Viren asked with a smile.
"Ahh... I was trying to put Gia to sleep but..."
"But you slept yourself" Viren said finishing her sentence. "Well Gia just went to sleep. She was still awake when I walked inside her room but I put her to sleep" Viren said tucking Jeevika's hair behind her ear.
"I thought she slept. I shouldn't have slept. Something could have happened to her" said Jeevika feeling guilty.
"No she was protected by her mother, nothing would have happened to her" said Viren.
"Let me go make you a cup of tea, you must be tired" suggested Jeevika.
"Only a little. But after catching a glimpse of you sleeping, all my exhaustion wore away" Viren said flirting with his wife.
"Virenji, please" Jeevika said blushing. She made room for herself and eventually got up from the bed to leave the bedroom. As she put the water into the kettle, Viren walked inside to catch a glimpse of Jeevika.
"Virenji I'll bring the tea inside the room. You can go rest" said Jeevika.
"Or I can help you make the tea and then enjoy it with you sitting on the couch outside"
"That works too" said Jeevika agreeing with her husband.
"Virenji, I wanted to ask you if you'll come with me tomorrow. It's Gia's first day of school"
"Of course I will, why do you think I was working till late everyday this week? I took tomorrow off" said Viren joyfully. "We'll drop and pick her up tomorrow together"
"Thank You. Can you imagine our little girl leaving our hands and walking on her own feet by herself" Jeevika joyfully said imagining her daughter.
"It sounds scary Jeevika. She's too young to leave us like that" Viren argued.
"No Virenji, we all had to go through it once. It's not easy, but its for her own good" Jeevika retorted back.
"Maybe, but the curiosity of whats going on inside the classroom will kill me. I wish we could see how she's doing and if she's getting along with the other kids" said Viren.
"Virenji you're sounding like an over-protective father now" Jeevika said laughing to herself as she saw her husband make his patent face.
"I love my daughter more than anything in this world. I have to be an over-protective father. Have you seen how cute that face is?"
Viren took out his cell phone showing Jeevika his screen-saver of their precious daughter. His wife gave him a small smile, knowing there wasn't much more to argue about.
-------------------------
It was hardly 7 am, when Jeevika woke up to the sound of the shower running in the bathroom. She yawned a few times before pushing away the blanket and getting on her feet. She knew her husband could use a cup of coffee and headed to make it in the kitchen. As she walked back into her bedroom, Viren stood in front of the mirror buttoning up his collared-white shirt. Jeevika placed the tray below and stood in front of Viren taking his shirt in her own hands.
"This is my favorite shirt of yours. You look very handsome today" Jeevika said looking into her husband's eyes. Viren couldn't resist to smile and he happily accepted Jeevika's compliment.
"Maybe I should go to the mall today and buy a surplus of white shirts like this... You know, to where it everyday for you" said Viren.
"No need to look handsome everyday" retorted Jeevika.
"Why not?" Viren asked.
"Because I can't control all other women who like to stare at you from bottom up" said Jeevika in a rather firm voice.
"How does any of that matter when my eyes are just on you?" asked Viren notoriously.
"Virenji, I'm being serious" said Jeevika wanting Viren to take her words seriously... "Was I laughing? I'm being serious too"
***knock knock***
Viren and Jeevika dropped their romantic conversation to look at the door. There stood Virat with his niece sitting on his shoulders and Manvi standing by their side.
"Good morning everyone. Today's our Gia's first day of school, bhai bhabhi please stop the romance. We have other & more important things to do today" Virat said taking a dig at Viren and Jeevika.
Viren walked forward to get his sleepy daughter off of Virat's shoulders and into his arms. Gia instantly managed to position herself comfortably on Viren's shoulder and close her eyes for a few more minutes.
"Di, jiju... can we come today also... I mean to drop off Gia?" Manvi asked.
Viren and Jeevika looked at each other smiling, grateful for the loving family and doting masi and chachu Gia had who were there for every milestone of her's.
"I don't think Gia would leave the house without you two anyways" said Jeevika smiling.
The four of them all prepared their own way that morning to get Gia ready for school. From Jeevika and Manvi giving her a bath, to Viren getting out the cute backpack he had bought for Gia, and even Virat who was preparing a special breakfast for his special niece. Today was a momentous day ❤️
