Who said prisons need to be desolate, barren, small, and fllthy? Prisons can be beautiful, luxurious palaces with a lot of people and yet one can still feel caged within its high walls. There is so much strength and weakness at the same time in a woman like Uma who continuously endures emotional, psychological, and physical abuse from her prison-master (Kailash). There is so much pain and hurt she hides underneath her veil and maintains this charade with her family. She is ultimately held captive because of the love she has for her children. She lets the fire blow its wrath on her so that she could shield them and yet she loses herself a little bit each time.
I hated the way Kailash exerts this powerful control over a woman who loves him so much that she endures such horrifying abuse and tries to appease him each time. She tries to be the balm to his pain and soothe his anger but he is perpetrator of her pain. It just disgusts me how he thinks that there is anything good about him. The way constantly belittles and insults her and physical abuses her (slapping & choking) her is horrible. No man should ever treat a woman like that and I want to see Uma fight back and walk out on this chauvinistic asshole.
it is such a shame that although as a mother she is aware of her children's existing and developing feelings and thoughts; that her own children are unaware of the years of torture she has endured at their father's hands. She can see the blooming feelings of love in Vividha but Vividha doesn't notice the palpable fear in Uma's eyes and the shake of her hands each time their father gets angry. It's so heart-breaking. Will Kailash's real face ever truly be uncovered? Will Uma ever fight back and walk out of this marriage. No, I do not want to see an apology or reconciliation. This is years of abuse and it makes me mad.
