Excerpts from an Interview with SRK: Do you feel it is right to come out with a documentary on your personal life at such an early stage? What was the reaction of the people after watching the documentary made on you by Munni Kabir? A lot of very people called me up after watching that documentary, saying they felt sad for me. They asked me if they could come and give me a hug! If you ever had a chance to make a documentary on some person who would that be? I've never thought about making a documentary. But if I ever make a documentary, it will never be about a living person - probably be a non living object in my house! I would make a documentary on an apple in my house, on how it came from a shop to my place! I think it will be a very offbeat subject which no one would have think. I feel humble and great that after 15 years my life is discussed and people respect me so much and call me a Baadshah. Are there any things discussed in this DVD which you have never discussed in your interviews? Yes, there are many such personal things related to me and my family that I have spoken in this documentary which at times not even spoken at home. For instance, I had gone to pray for my parents and I had a very acute back pain that time. I had gone to pray at the mosque so that my parents would be cured.
Generally, when documentaries are, made either they portray a very positive side of the person or they make a very critical and objective. What can we expect from this documentary? I became the producer of this documentary only after it was made, and as a matter of fact, I did not have much interference in it. Obviously, when a documentary is made there will be some appraisal of the person. But I would say that this documentary completely belongs to Nasreen Munni Kabir and Peter Chappell the British cinematographer. I never asked for any changed when I viewed it first and was even asked by Nasreen if I wanted any changes or deletion. Would you say you are arrogant? I don't think I am arrogant at all. Ego, we all have. I've met a lot of people who I find arrogant. If I can find someone arrogant, it would mean that I am not arrogant. But I would like to have my own way in terms of my work. I've worked for 15 years and I know what I am talking about, and you have to respect that. Yes, I've mellowed, especially after my injury. I've become more bearable. In the last one year, there have been moments when I was still raw and brash as I used to be, but most of the time I've become quite mellow. Have you ever moved yourself to tears? I did have tears while we were shooting for this documentary as I spoke about things that I had not even discussed at home. I recalled things like at home we had unsaid rules that I will not make a phone call once I'm in the house. So you're always find me making a phone call from the bathroom... I close the door and then talk.
You are secular. You have "Om" and "Allah" inscribed in your house. Did your parents instill this attitude in you? Yes. My parents always told me that God is one. I go to temples with my friends. I celebrate both Id and Diwali. I'm teaching my kids to read the Koran in English. Children should know about the value of God. Whether it's a Hindu God or the Muslim's God. Next to the idols of Ganeshji and Laxmiji, we have the Holy Koran in out home. |
