Shoma Anand replaces Aroona Irani

Shoma Anand, aka Bina Mathurof Hum Paanch has replaced Aroona Irani as Durga Khurana in Maayka. Confirming the news, Shoma says, "I have agreed to this show because this character offers me something different. Often people have only associated me with comedy roles, thus I wanted to break this iamge."

This is the first time Shoma will be playing a negative character in a TV show. Will the telly viewer accept her in this role? She replies, "I'm happy to be doing a powerful role. I've been longing to portray such a character. I'm sure my admirers will like me in this avatar."

The seasoned actress had taken a break from Indian television, after her shows went off air or either her character was bumped off. She says, "I wasn't enjoying my work thus I decided to take a break from television. I utilised this time travelling to different places. I spent a lot of time in Dubai shooting for my two Pakistani serials, Kabhi Na Kabhi and an untitled one."
